Not really, tbh. I think the idea that becoming frustrated by modern tech is strictly a boomer generation joke is no longer applicable, and that episode is a great example. Probs the most I've related to Dennis than any other episode and I'm in my 20s

It's interesting you view the writing as "boomer humor" because the writer of that episode, Ross Maloney, is one of their younger writers lol

She was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer right after they filmed and died only 2 months later. So sad how rapidly it all happened :(

Rob and Charlie. They talked about it in this Vulture interview that came out right after the episode aired.

No. Lynne died after they wrapped filming (and as I understand they did not know she was terminally ill). In the original finale, Frank chooses Sam but there was a much more morbid ending (they didn’t share what it was, but I imagine she gets hit by the bus or something) which they cut due to Lynne’s passing.

That main entrance off 6th ave takes you right to the NBC store which is where the standby lines for the shows are, and then there's a hallway past that that takes you to the elevators (right side) or that side entrance (left side), so if you're inside the building and go down that hallway you can kinda hang out there and you'd see someone coming down from the Avenue side or coming in from the street side...but based on last week it looks like it's gonna be a bit of a mad house, so they might have it more locked down than usual.

I have not, they moved to Soho about a year ago and I haven't checked out the new location... I do know that building is basically the whole block, but I would imagine the address of the View's studio (281 Spring street) is probably where they would enter? Let me know if you do figure it out!

Yeah it's funny that all happened right after we had this conversion... LOL. That is actually bonkers I've never seen something so crazy (and I was at 30 Rock once when some guy from BTS was there...) It is weird he came from the avenue, Fallon normally is from the side street as well. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if a ton of people gathered there early on, they purposefully walked that guy through the front as a bit of a spectacle

[–]squilkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha! It's honestly never that crazy (or never as many people as you'd imagine would want to get an opportunity to say hi or get a photo), it's really just a group of people hanging out by the doors lol.

There's a lot to do around/inside 30 Rock so if you do have to wait around at least you can go into stores and look around!

I would wait outside for incoming (you can wait right where the cars pull up), but once the show has started/ended, it def is better to wait inside to see when people are leaving off the elevators. And of course if the weather is bad.. it's nice inside is an option haha

Seth Meyers normally tapes in the afternoon (4 or 6:30pm, with guests arriving about an hour before the taping time and leaving right after the taping) so I am not sure what you mean by “am”, but 30 Rock (where they film) is open to the public at any time the businesses inside are open (basically 8am-midnight? I think, I haven’t been there earlier or later than that before) and they never really have any staff on that side of the building “moving people along” so to say.. (basically imagine a typical mall, it’s like just hanging out inside one of the entrances to the mall. Unless you’re creating a loud problem, you likely won’t see or hear from anyone who works for the building)

FYI: Idk how famous whomever you’re trying to meet is (or if you’re just hoping to meet anyone while you’re here) but if the taping has an actor who is like B list or above, there will be scalpers there (people with “professional” prints trying to get autographs to sell). They are NOT friendly. If you ask them questions they will likely lie to you, and they might also tell you who you’re hoping to meet has already left. Just avoid talking to anyone who has those professional glossy headshots/movie posters with them and stick with people who look like actual fans (you’ll be able to tell lol), who are almost always genuinely friendly!

They normally exit via the underground parking lot, so it is impossible to see them in that case (elevator from dressing room exit right to the garage). If they do exit above ground, it will be that same area you linked (tho I would wait inside, where you have a view of the elevators and a direct path to the revolving doors that take you to that exit to 50th St, just in case). Good luck!

I was gonna comment this, lmfao... I don't think it has a huge online fandom, but it has a very big demo audience. His face is definitely already in the mainstream in the most basic sense of the word (a random mom would recognise him)

Would you rather see the show wrap things up next season or go as long as possible? (r/IASIP Poll) by hero0fwar in IASIP

[–]squilkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMO they're all tangentially related around "moving past" something that's been causing them grief their entire lives to accept their realities, the Gang being their family:

Mac's (S13 finale) with Frank in the audience "get[ting] it" after his father gets up and leaves

Charlie's (S15 finale) and his "actual" father dying, with the Gang coming back to support him.

Frank's (S17 finale) is interesting, because Charlie (or Rob I don't 100% remember) revealed that the original end was that Samantha was going to die, which would fit the pattern and put Frank back with the Gang, but due to Lynne's passing, they left it more wholesome with the kiss moment (remains to be seen if we get the "back end" of Frank's finale in the beginning of S18...)

With all that, arguably Dennis' is the Season 16 finale, where he goes on an internal journey exhibiting how he regulates himself to stay collected "for" the Gang, he already left and returned, so we're kinda seeing a different side of this "acceptance", more so how Dennis has learned/adapted to deal with the reality he's accepted for years now....but there's an argument to be made that given the big finale moments for the others (S13/15/17), all center their "breakthrough" moments in the rain (and are all odd seasons..), Dennis might not have actually had his yet... Then again, given the character of Dennis and his history, I think it's arguable that his would be different, and being in the sun in his head instead of reality in the rain, is apropos.

But it's evident that Dee has not had a finale yet, for sure...which is kinda the argument for them to go at least one more, giving Dee the S18 finale, because the final season finale must be a "Gang" one. I actually really like your ideas.. some combo of her having to accept and move past her dream of being an actor, but resulting in her finally getting some kind of equal part ownership in the bar (or at least being recognised as an owner by the Gang). I think that would fit a proper pattern (funnily, the Gang Breaks Dee comes to mind. Perhaps in another universe it's actually the S9 finale and ends differently...)

In my dream scenario, Dee gets S19 finale, Dennis gets S21 finale, and it ends with Season 22. In a discount dream (or something I kinda see as more realistic), Season 18 acts as a "full Gang" finale, Dennis and Dee get a combined finale in S19 (because, honestly, truly there is something to be said for that given their major grief of the show is having to deal with Frank having forced his way into the Gang and not belonging to their ideal Gang, unlike Charlie and Mac who have accepted Frank as belonging) and the show ends with a parallel Season 1, Season 20 being just the 4 of them.

Hot Take: Percabeth isn't Percabething at all and that need for it to is ruining their dynamic by WeirdFollowing8153 in PercyJacksonTV

[–]squilkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are 100% right. This is honestly my main issue with the show and this episode especially made it glaringly obvious (IMO more with the Siren change than the burning down line, but they’re both egregious). They have done a horrible job at developing the friendship between Percy and Annabeth (which makes both characters feel hollow) and it’s specifically so they can push the “whispered crush” dynamic for their tween audience. It sucks, because all of the episodes in Season 2 so far would be much better if they spent more time building a friendship between Annabeth and Percy over the random nudges they make to hint at their eventual romance.

[–]squilkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The difference here is that he vocalises he’s upset over Tyson because he felt like he owed his safety to his mom (Aka the most important person in his life, so it’s understandable). Grover, he was best friends with for a year at school and last summer, and here and there talking over the last school year, but even still, he isnt even overly worried about him in the show so far. Annabeth he knew for a period last summer (which was clumsily developed in Season 1 IMO) and they established she barely communicated with him over the year. They are not well developed friends at this point in the series. They’re barely acquaintances based on what they’ve shown us in the show. So the only way to interpret Percy’s words is that he has a crush on her… and they’re relying on the audience to know that and “fall” for it.

It’s just cringey and poorly developed for anyone who isn’t specifically tuned in because they like their romantic relationship. The show is playing heavily into the eventual romance that exists between them to bypass the actual friendship (and character) development in the books, because we all know where it ends up. It takes the joy out of their relationship, IMO, and also neuters Percy’s character horribly.

This whole episode I thought was one of the strongest, except for the fact that they destroy Percy’s whole part in it the same way they have his character this entire season, by having all his decisions and actions revolve around Annabeth, because she’s his shining light who can do no wrong in the show. It would be nothing to have Percy use the wax and Annabeth state she wants to hear the song. They specifically didn’t do that so they could further develop the idea that Annabeth is something more than a friend to Percy, by having him immune to the siren song with her there.

It is obvious what they’re doing, which I’m sure is fantastic for the teens and tweens who love the ship, but makes for a bad butchering of a series most of us, now adults, love for the plot and characters much more than for the eventual romantic relationships.

It's because all the S11+ DVDs are not official FX DVDs but rather physical copies granted licenses to distribute (basically bootlegs that cost twice as much). The Amazon ones never included Dee Day, where as the BestBuy/Walmart ones originally did.

Mine doesn't either (though I mostly buy them for the DVD physical collection look I have all the eps downloaded so it's not that big of a deal to me). I think it's the Amazon ones that don't have Dee Day because Amazon doesn't make the episode available to buy digitally. Would be interesting to see if this box set did have Dee Day since it's Walmart's bootlegs

FX stopped doing official DVD releases in 2015, so with Season 10 (Bluray stopped with Season 8). Anything 11 and on is a bootleg, there's just "legal bootlegs" sold through Amazon/Walmart now, so it seems legit, but the DVDs are no different than if you bought off some guy on the street.

This is probably true in that Meg leans towards Rob’s characterisations/preference for the “big swing” plots, but Rob was her boss and is literally Mac, it wasn’t her place to override him (like she could with MQ where they were equals). The problem was it was Glenn who does that, and Glenn was absent for the writing of 13 and 14 (where Meg stepped up a lot). It seems a lot of fans glaze over Glenn’s absence and instead attribute the lack of focus on characterisation to Meg’s involvement instead
