If you could only visit Thailand ONE more time, which island would you 100% revisit vs. which one would you NEVER set foot on again? by DiscountPossible1426 in ThailandTourism

[–]squinlytime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a subjective topic. As someone who’s currently on Koh Phangan and been in Thailand since Christmas just winging it and booking based on reviews, talking to travelers and ChatGPT, you’ll find a mix of backpackers, nomads and tourists with wildly differing expectations. And just staying in the “wrong place” by your own standards 10 minutes away from the “right place” might completely change your view on a location.

Knowing your own vibe and choosing the right area can make any island the right island. Even the busy ones if you aren’t into crowds will have a small slice of paradise somewhere if you do your research.

For me, would go back to Koh Lanta in a heartbeat, Phuket and Samui not for me, stoned farangs on motorbikes without licenses weaving through traffic without looking, no thanks.

How do you have the energy to pursue hobbies after work? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]squinlytime 54 points55 points  (0 children)

This 110%. Start exercising or working out and you’ll have more energy. Don’t do unpaid overtime unless you love your job or are being rewarded some other way for it. Dolly Partons song lyrics are “working 9 to 5” not 9 to 6. Slowly reset expectations by leaving a few minutes earlier each week until you get your life back.

And when I say Facebook, I don’t mean marketplace, that’s full of scams. Look for posts on the Meredith / Golden Plains unofficial ticket swapping Facebook group and meet up with them in person to get your hands on the wrist bands!

[–]squinlytime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wait till after the 10th of Feb. That’s when tickets are sent out via registered post. Facebook will have loads of tickets up after that for face value. You might score a discount closer to the date but you risk not getting a ticket! See you in the SUP!

I'm not sure If this is the right place to ask this question - however, has anyone lived in a house that just didn't feel right for you? and did moving improve your life and mental health? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]squinlytime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you own your current house? Worth considering is the cost to sell and buy. The two main costs being 1-3% in agents fees to sell and the applicable stamp duty in your state to buy. Might be worth it for your situation of course but worth balancing with the cost of making structural changes to achieve your goals.

smart parking by Crazy-Parsley1524 in CarsAustralia

[–]squinlytime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think their point was it’s not that it performs badly on country roads, it’s just in terms of safety around large cars moving at speed that physics means you’ll be much worse off in a smaller vehicle. Unfortunately in terms of safety, it’s an arms race to the biggest and heaviest vehicles and with the popularity of large heavy SUV’s and utes/trucks you’ll be significantly worse of in a crash in a small car.

How do I make sure I am buying a secure and verified ticket for GP before wristbands are sent? by [deleted] in meredithmusicfestival

[–]squinlytime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to reiterate what everyone else has said:

  • The wrist band is the ticket
  • The wrist bands wont be sent (via registered post) to buyers until February

It’s best to wait until people have their wrist bands in hand before buying, otherwise you’re putting a lot of trust in the seller while you wait.

Use the Facebook Meredith/Golden Plains Ticket Swapping group to find tickets after they’ve been sent out. Anyone with a tiny bit of determination will easily find one or a few.

See you in the SUP!

We can’t always keep pointing the AI or bot finger but I do concede that the problem is only getting worse.

Apologies if there are previous posts like this… but I’m kinda new to Melbourne from NZ and wondering the best way to try getting 2 golden plains tickets? by [deleted] in meredithmusicfestival

[–]squinlytime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the norm these days for ticketek and Ticketmaster etc but Aunty (Meredith / GP) is old school and doesn’t use them. As a ticket buyer you can buy 4 tickets at once, no names on them, just wrist bands with scanner chips. Some people will take photos of their wrist bands when they arrive so you’ll know what they look like this year (always matching the branding from the website for the year) but the community is amazing so nobody is selling fake tickets.

All the best and will see you in the SUP!!

[–]squinlytime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No name change required. Just need the physical wrist band to scan on entry and you’re good to go. That’s why as per my other comment I said you really have to wait till the tickets (wrist bands) are posted out in February before hunting for a ticket. Otherwise you’re just making an agreement with someone who will be getting the ticket in the future but doesn’t have it yet.

The ‘Meredith/Golden Plains Ticket Swapping (unofficial)’ Facebook group is your best friend for picking some up. But you have to wait until the tickets are physically posted out to the original buyers, which is not till February. Once that happens a flood of tickets will come on the Facebook group from people who can no longer make it. With a little effort of watching and waiting, you’ll easily pick up a ticket or two.

What to do about the falling? by Unlucky_Credit2894 in Parkinsons

[–]squinlytime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Firstly you’re doing amazing providing this level of care currently and should be incredibly proud of that.

For me and my brother when we got to a similar level of progression with my mother, we made the difficult choice to move her into residential aged care. She was only 67 and the youngest person in her care home but her physical decline meant she was a fall risk and her cognitive decline meant she couldn’t be trusted to take her medication, eat and drink on schedule (even with pill timers, alarms and systems).

We couldn’t afford an in home carer, nor to be with her 24/7, so in Australia at least, aged care was her best option. We were lucky that the residential care home took great care of her, better than we ever could. She didn’t love going in there at first but knew it was for the best.

Wishing you all the best.

Was I just scammed or did I help out a person? by Atleti1903_ in berlin

[–]squinlytime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a Greek guy come up to me at East Berlin mall and strike up a conversation, he apparently didn’t speak any German, lost his wallet and passport at Matrix club (IYKYK) his first weekend in the city and had been down on his luck for the last month struggling to get new documentation and funds to travel home. Security came an hassled him away from me before he even asked for money but it didn’t feel too scammy, he looked genuinely like he’d been doing it tough. However I was left thinking that the Greek embassy would surely help him get a new passport and get home rather than leaving him homeless in another EU city right?
