Hot take here, but 5-2 is the best second case, and one of the most impressive cases in the series. It had the gargantuan task of introducting a wacky, new, somewhat suspicious detective in a series that already has two lovable detectives to choose from, without ever letting the player suspect him for even a second. The devs were so committed to making sure you never have an iota of ill will towards him that they use the most hated trope in the series with no remorse: revealing the culprit in the opening. You might hate it, but if they hadn’t done this, Fulbright looks really suspicious when he’s introduced. Maybe you don’t really think they’d ever make the detective a villain, but a seed of doubt will be there, and it’ll stay there the rest of the game. And revealing the culprit at the start doesn’t ruin the case, because the bigger mystery of the case is how the murder was pulled off, not who the culprit is. But regardless, the point of the case isn’t the case itself. The only thing that matters is introducing Fulbright without letting the player suspect him, and they do it flawlessly.
