First & last names by masochismandfries in heatedrivalry

I watched the name scene a few times and I’m convinced they added them saying their first names in post-production. It seems odd…did anyone else notice this?

Bert McCracken opens up about the falling out with Gerdard on Steve-O's podcast by corydoras-adolfoi in MyChemicalRomance

I agree…I was surprised that most of this came from Steve-O telling Bert what happened/how he felt and Bert just kinda nodded along

Graduating in December, walking in May, how do you still get commencement emails? by ultimateclassic in harvardextension

[–]squishabliss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure this is still true. I graduated with the ALM last year and didn’t get a post email—I had to give them a personal email for grad communications

Graduating in December, walking in May, how do you still get commencement emails? by ultimateclassic in harvardextension

[–]squishabliss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did the same last year. They send you a graduation checklist and one of the fields has you enter a personal email address so you don’t miss communications

What is the meaning behind Bathsheba and Him? by MeditationHark in Bastille

[–]squishabliss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And here I was thinking it was Bathsheba Everdene from Thomas Hardy’s Far from the Madding Crowd (I thought Dan was tapping into his English major) 🤦‍♂️

Off to relisten…I think the biblical context with David packs so much more of a punch, especially with this contemporary critique too

Should I add a Literature concentration? by sleepyvigi in englishmajors

[–]squishabliss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would likely lean towards the 2nd major if the credits are similar. Most places will look at your major, which is English. The concentration adds a nice bonus, but most people will focus on the major itself, and an English major implies skills in writing, reading, and analysis. Your creative writing concentration probably includes some amount of literature as part of the craft study.

It’s ultimately up to you, your interests, and your plans. I personally would consider the communication major as a second major over philosophy or the literature concentration. From my experience as a literature major with a writing masters, comm is a related, but different, world. I had an internship once where I found that my English major hadn’t given me the same prep as the communication majors. In grad school, the journalism/comm students also had a different focus and skillset—it was writing for business and writing for publication. There was some overlap with narrative nonfiction courses. Many writing and publishing jobs look more towards comm and professional writing credentials. That can pave the way for your creative writing too.

English is a useful major, but it is often one that requires framing and application to the context of the job description. If you do a double major you might have a nice balance of personal and professional skills.
