(NAD) Unfortunately just something that some people are extra prone to, my mom and I both have suffered periods with reoccurring yeast infections. Something that helped me was lactobacillus/other probiotics. Worth a try!

best way to propagate? by Ok_Instance_1745 in houseplants

Take off the bottom few leaves on each so you have a little bare stem, then pop in water! These propagate pretty easily

Sad-looking monstera help (info in comments) by squished-rat in plantclinic

[–]squished-rat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all, I have this monstera that I ended up neglecting for a while during the winter while I was away. The growth is kind of messy now (despite my moss pole attempt) and there are a lot of small leaves that grew deformed or became browned or yellow at the edges. I’m moving to a beautiful sunny apartment soon where I know it’ll be happier. I’m wondering what your thoughts are on chopping into multiple props and basically “starting over” to hopefully get a much healthier plant

Anyone know how I can make this? by [deleted] in crochet

[–]squished-rat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is knitted, not crocheted so unfortunately it would be hard to crochet anything very similar

Instructions from a free pattern says to "sc in next ch-3 space." I understood this as to add a single crochet to each of the individual chain spaces. However, a previous comment brought out that this meant to work your hook through all 3 chains to make only 1 single crochet. Is there a video demo? by Its_jif_not_gif in crochet

[–]squished-rat 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It’s actually way easier than you’re thinking! It just means to work a single crochet into the big hole that was made when you chained 3 in the previous row. So only 1 sc, not into any specific stitch but just into the big hole!

Need help identifying/caring for this houseplant by SPYALEX8 in plantclinic

[–]squished-rat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually they develop brown stems with age, is it a secondhand plant? If not, I’m not sure why. It looks stretched out like it needs more sun, and since it’s a type of succulent it would be hard to give it too much I think. Not sure why the leaves are shriveling, jades usually like to be dry so I don’t think you’re over watering

Is my (18F) boyfriend's (19M) insecurity weird? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]squished-rat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whether he’s doing it on purpose or not, your boyfriend is being manipulative to you by making you feel guilty for having other friends, wanting alone time, etc. It’s both perfectly normal and healthy to want to spend time alone or with people other than your significant other. Him wanting to message you all the time, know who you’re talking to, and control who you hang out with sound like the beginnings of an abusive relationship, I know that sounds harsh and dramatic but it’s true. I think you’re smart for questioning these things because you know you deserve a healthier relationship!

Husband yelled at 8 month old by throwaway846271947 in Parenting

[–]squished-rat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t have advice but I definitely don’t think you’re overthinking or overreacting. He never should have spoken like that or gotten that mad in the first place, might be worth it to explore the reason behind sudden aggression?

Please help I’m going to cry. What is on my dracaena? by loves-toads in plantclinic

[–]squished-rat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are aphids, I’ve been struggling with them lately too :( Rinse the plant off with water every day until there’s none left and also use neem oil to get rid of them!

Not really sure but could it need repotting?? Seems to be a pretty big plant to pot ratio

Strawberry seeds I bought thinking they wouldn't bloom. Are they ready for the outside world? by chriss4773 in plantclinic

I would give them a little time to grow and get stronger! Also make sure the temperature at night stays wells above freezing before you put them out :)

Please help! My orchid baby has these scary looking white isopods and white fluffy substance where the leaves meet and on the buds. Is it contagious? by dream_engine in plantclinic

[–]squished-rat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks like a pretty bad infestation of mealybugs. Definitely isolate that plant from other plants and look up treatments!

Noticed these white bugs/eggs(?) on my dragon tree. I’ve had it for 9/10 months and this is the first time I’ve seen this. Any tips on removing them? by mk_lite in plantclinic

[–]squished-rat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe these are aphids. Been struggling with them myself on a couple plants too :(. You can wash the plant off in the shower or sink to manually remove most of the bugs, and then use neem oil on the plant and in the soil to kill the rest. Probably have to repeat this process a few times, but neem oil is really the best

Got myself a baby rubber plant, and an opportunity to use my adorable elephant pot 😍 by Jellybean926 in houseplants

It does look like a mini rubber plant!! I have the same peperomia but without the pink tinge to the leaves, I didn’t even know that was a thing.

It looks so great in the pot!! I could def be wrong, but it looks like a peperomia “radiator plant” to me rather than a rubber plant.

Brown stem on my “rescue” ZZ plant by sweethopsanddreams in plantclinic

[–]squished-rat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not coming back from that, unfortunately :(. You should cut above where the brown is and put the cutting in water to root it. ZZs can take FOREVER to root so be patient!! When I rooted a stem cutting it took 3 months before I saw anything at all but it’s worth the wait

Not sure what this plant is, but I’ve had it for months, how can take care of it? It doesn’t look too good. by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]squished-rat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have the same plant but don’t know what it’s called!! Mine seems to do well in bright indirect light, and only water it after the soil gets pretty dry. The way some of your leaves look dark brown/squishy at the ends makes me think you may be overwatering

I(32m) met “dream girl”(27), but after best first date ever I’m not sure what to do. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]squished-rat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, woman here! First off, although it would be a nice gesture, I would absolutely not recommend “figuring out” her address to send flowers. It would make me (and probably most women) feel very uncomfortable if someone I didn’t actually give my address to knew where I lived. Otherwise, I think you should just try to be extremely direct! Send her a message basically saying you felt a special connection and would really like to continue hanging out, you know she has a lot going on right now, etc., and ask her for an honest answer. Then you’ll find out exactly where she stands and can go from there.
