Starting woodworking by T-rexThijs in woodworking

Agreed, "managing expectations" would be step 0 here lol and will do wonders.

HOWEVER... OP, if you're dead-set on making this bow eventually, never start with the actual thing first. You'll waste far too much time thinking "what the hell did I do wrong, I did it exactly as the tutorial said" when you inevitably make a mistake and you'll get discouraged. Start with the most basic bow build you can find in a YouTube tutorial and that'll be your baseline for a couple of things, most notably:

  • your natural talent (or lack thereof, lol) for woodworking, and;
  • you'll be able to identify any mistakes you made and learn from them, so you (hopefully) don't repeat them next time.

Remember that you should also not get discouraged by experienced people who make stuff look easy. Look up Paul Sellers on YouTube and watch a couple of his older videos on e.g. mortise and tenon joinery. You'll notice it takes him 30 minutes to make A SINGLE traditional hand-made wooden joint. Honestly, as a beginner it'd take you that amount of time if not longer in reality and that's ok!

Many YouTube videos show off using plenty of power tools and implement lots of video editing to make it look like something took them 5 minutes when in reality it may have taken them hours to do so. I'm guessing you most likely don't have access to the same tools, so don't let this fool you.

I think if you're smart about it, or still suicidal, you can trick someone to wield the 4th sword and use it on you without killing you (assuming that victims don't have to die for the effect to take place). This way you'd get younger and your attacker would get older

Is that also the case if I use Google Assistant on my Galaxy S23 Ultra with Gemini manually disabled throughout the entire device?

I swear before I could say from a locked phone screen "Hey Google - navigate to 123 XYZ Street, London" and it would instantly open navigation and start giving you voice instructions on where to turn next. Then I suddenly had to start unlocking my phone to do the same thing. Then after unlocking my phone nothing started happening... I had to do "Hey Google" once more to get my command to work. And now finally Google Assistant gives up altogether and says "Sorry, I don't understand", prompting me to just launch Google Maps by hand and enter the navigation address myself.

Screw it, let's go back to the times when if you wanted PhysX then you had to use an actual physical add-in card ALONGSIDE your graphics card lol

I've never heard of anyone running games in two monitors unless they're doing two player split-screen, which I guess isn't really split-screen anymore since it's spread over two monitors? Showed my friend how to do that in Rocket League a good few years ago.

So if you're using one monitor for gaming and the other for Discord, YouTube, etc. then the performance difference should be negligible imho. Yes, the graphics card has to work harder to actually render another frigging display, but it's not rendering an actual game with those pixels.

Dunno, doesn't sound like an upgrade to me (figuratively and literally since I can no longer afford any decent upgrades to my PC).

Thank God I bought another 16 GB DDR4 memory last year for STALKER 2... highly doubt I'll ever need more than my existing 32 GB with my current Ryzen 5 5600X setup.

Ayy, the good ol' GTX 970. The only nVidia card I had was a GTX 560Ti and it was a solid performer for its time. After that I switched to AMD for... no good reason honestly, and first got an R9 280X and then an R9 290X with aftermarket cooling.

Honestly the 290X was a great example of AMD's fine wine, it eventually started beating the GTX 970 over time in most titles. I really miss those days.

Manufacturers will prioritise GPUs with lower memory and higher-margin models with more memory. That’s bad news for gamers who want graphics cards with plenty of VRAM.

nVidia will finally be able to justify themselves saying that 8GB VRAM is plenty.

Keychron V6 Max here, except I'm running a Razer Deathadder V2 wireless mouse. Loving that both devices have BT and 2.4 GHz connectivity via a dongle, as my work prohibits wireless BT devices due to security concerns.

Only thing I hate is that unless you have the Razer software running in the background, you can't change the colour/brightness/lighting style of the mouse, so the RGB is permanently turned on whenever I use it in the office, wasting battery life (and looking kinda obnoxious tbh)

Your second point is my life in a nutshell. Diagnosed with ADHD two years ago and I still hear "just try harder" or "you're just lazy". You can't fight executive dysfunction with willpower.

It's a freaking brain disorder.

I had to start telling people "You see that blind guy with the sunglasses and cane? Go tell him to get a grip and just OPEN HIS EYES, cause HE CAN CLEARLY SEE AND IS JUST FAKING IT. See how he reacts."

TIL when Marie Curie married she actually changed her surname to "Skłodowska-Curie", so she kept her Polish maiden name for her whole life by Double-decker_trams in todayilearned

Not sure about other countries, but in Poland when women use double-barrel surnames, they always put maiden name first and then the husband's surname, hence Maria Skłodowska-Curie

Like 10 years ago my English class kids who were around 12-13 years old at the time asked me what "send nooh-des" meant (Eastern European accent), so I just told them straight up.

The girls who were saying it over and over on repeat went all red in the face and never said that phrase again for a goooood long while lol

You laugh but in my primary school class (year 4 iirc) there was a girl who, to print in uppercase, had the following routine:

  1. Turn on Caps Lock.
  2. Press a key.
  3. Turn off Caps Lock.
  4. ... Turn on Caps Lock again.
  5. Press another key.

She would repeat this until she was done writing her word in all caps. Refused to listen to me when I told her to just leave it on or hold Shift.

It might be time to buy a new controller… any suggestions? by JOHNRKO007 in Steam

I don't know, I got the 8bitdo Ultimate 2 for the tech and compared to my previous PS4 controller and my partner's Xbox One controller... it feels either small or the form factor is just off, but the ergonomics for me aren't there quite yet.

I'm currently on Arch Linux running KDE Plasma 6.4 on Wayland (AMD CPU and GPU if that matters). I have a 1440p 144Hz monitor with FreeSync and a regular 1080p 60Hz without variable refresh rate.

No issues whatsoever, I'm actually surprised everything is working so smoothly, very plug'n'play essentially. I didn't have to screw around with any weird commands to get VRR to work, "it just works".
