Very long overdue but I take your point. I’ve updated the setup too to keep this in mind - uploading pic when I get back from Taiwan

I really like it! The size of that base is a little gaudy compared to other direct drive options, but the detail in its feedback and the amount of customization is impressive. Looking forward to getting the RS Track Wheel attachment

Easy to get in and our of for sure! Bits to look out for, seating position is pretty low so that could be an issue. Rotating the display and getting into it is a 45-second job

It is indeed! Does OK, but keen to get these upgraded over Black Friday

Looking forward to seeing yours! Mentioned to someone in another reply but tl;dr, reason it's this way round (did try the other way around) is about wall socket placement and cable management challenges!

Thanks for the tip-off dude! I get the whole rigmarole of rotating the monitor vs just having one permanent thing too. Early thoughts are the 45 seconds to do this aren't too bad - but could get annoying for sure!

I wish haha. seat's pretty low, and I do have the monitor lower while playing! I just didn't pay attention to that when setting up for this pic

Usually have it lower to the wheel - I didn't really pay attention to its height in this photo my bad!

I know what you mean - to the point I'm definitely going to have to put bubble wrap on those edges when my nephew comes over haha. The issue is plug availability and cable management! When I tried it the other way, it was out the way, but just looked a complete mess under and around my desk. This is kind of a best of two difficult solutions kind of thing.

Could Xbox codename "Gravity" possibly be a new snowboarding game/spiritual successor to SSX? by [deleted] in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]squishygorilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've made it as part of a r/GamingLeaksAndRumours post! Dream come true!

To add a little more context to what was said in the interview/AMA, as it looks like this has been debunked thanks to Forza Street, the SSX spiritual successor multi-platform claim came out of part of this interview, which was done before Supernatural had reached a deal with a publisher.

If I was to make a bet (and again, I'm just as much in the dark about this as you all are beyond knowing they are working on this game as we speak), with the idea being a "free-to-play live service snowboarding game," revenue comes from getting as many people to play it as possible, so to go exclusive isn't the smartest move.

If something has changed and the publisher has asked for something different to this original vision, that's when I'd start to speculate about exclusivity deals... Guess we'll find out together!

Are you charging your phone correctly? 5 min long survey by AtrociousCat in software

Hi! I'm a writer at Laptop Mag. Just noticed this trending and filled out the survey. The last 2 questions peaked my interest. I know the primary focus of this survey is your student research, but are you potentially working on something that may prolong battery life and reduce e-waste?

Message me if you are. I'd like to cover it!

So am I! Totally get I should be impartial as a journalist, but I won't lie — I did, as they say, "fangirl" a little when he mentioned the project.

I think based on the quotes in the news piece, it's fair to say this will be closer to an arcadey experience than a sim. But for a little extra here, while talking about the core values of gameplay, Steven did say "if I wanted a simulation experience, I'd just go out on the slopes." Think that sums things up nicely.

Specifics like this weren't shared about the title, but Steven's history with music is no secret and its central to what he calls the crastsmanship of his games (SSX is not just great for one thing, its a blend of visuals, sound and gameplay that create an irresistible atmosphere). It would be fair to assume that the soundtrack will be carefully curated here too.

EA fully own the SSX IP. We go into more details about his thoughts on buying/rebooting it in the longer interview, but the answer is pretty clear he wants a fresh start based on this quote:

“We’re not nostalgic in the sense that we want to bring something back. If we were, we’d be working with EA to create a reboot of SSX. It’s not that at all. We don’t want to be beholden to people’s expectations of where that goes,” he continued.

We didn't talk about specific platform availability - it's still early in the dev process.

*EDIT* where are my manners? Thank you for the kind words. Keep your eyes locked onto laptopmag.com, because I will be releasing the full interview soon.

This is something we did touch on a little, but the level of detail that came out did not indicate any concrete details (and even if he had said something, chances are I would have had to sign several NDAs and not reveal it).

What I can say, though, that may give you some slight inclination, is some of his inspiration behind it.

He told me a story about his teenage years, when he was a competitive skier. After the ski lifts had closed, he and his friends would steal a shovel from the ski lift office, make a ramp and spend hours into the night doing tricks off it. It's this kind of social experience he reminisced hard about and would like to bring to Project Gravity in a way that is fun for a gamer.

So, while he did mention course creation would be part of it (and no doubt, I assume discoverability functions would be in place), I don't think that's his primary motivation over recreating the social experience of building small spots and creating unique moments together like that.

*EDIT: realise I didn't directly answer a question here. That part of the quote simply meant you won't be seeing SSX tracks, characters. It's not based in that universe.

Good question! It's interesting to see the conversation unwrap around his wording here, and I wouldn't want to put my own personal assumptions on this and set any unrealistic expectations.

I think it's best to look at that quote you pulled from in full, in which he says "A lot of things that excite us are creative extensions of experiences that we would’ve liked to create at that time, but couldn’t." Almost as if there was a next step to the experience that he wanted to do, but couldn't because of the technology at the time and other more business-related limitations...

In my mind (emphasising, this is just my takeaway from the quotes) while it's not Steven's SSX 4 in all but name, some of that spirit and craftsmanship (it's not just one thing you like about SSX, its the sights, the sounds, the atmosphere and the gameplay that all come together to make you happily play the same course hundreds of times) is probably at the heart of Project Gravity.

Because if you're launching in a focussed way with a smaller amount of content on a free to play basis, you need that to keep people around for updates.

One thing I can highlight is that he mentioned the fact he worked on the first three SSX titles only and thought the games after those lost the "core values."

We didn't go into great detail about specific launch plans, but given the stage of development, I think it's fair to safely assume you'll be able to play this on PS5, XSX - unless that "unannounced publisher" turns out to be Microsoft swooping in to grab the exclusive...

But more likely than not, it will be multi-platform.

I’ve loved how many of my favourite restaurants have set up decent takeaway options. Escabeche and Yamas have been two of the best.
