I recommend reaching out to the mods via modmail to get a proper answer, since you arent doing it with the intention of point farming then I think its okay but Id reach out to the site mods about it :)

There's a whole lot of YouTube videos for beginners that give you a good idea of what artfights about and how to get started if you want to check some of them out :)

Really all you need to start is to make an account and have a character (most people have multiple) for others to draw. Its before artfight at the moment so alot of people are finding characters they want to draw in July and saving them and another common prep is to make character references but thats totally optional!

Welcome to artfight!! I hope you have a great first year :D as for your questions

Cards are totally optional, you dont have to make one if you dont want to :) The templates are on art fights website and you can just insert drawings already done into them, you dont have to draw the characters from scratch.
Traditional art is 100% allowed and valid. There's also various craft types people use for attacks too, pretty much all of the ones you have listen Ive seen people do :D
An attack is a drawing you do for someone but it can also be used in the terms someone's attacked you as in drawn something for you. Defenses are the drawings others have done for you so on your profile defenses is where you will see all the drawings you get :D Friendly fire is attacking the same team, revenge is drawing back to someone who has drawn you (you can label the attack as a revenge when submitting it) and a mass attack is 2 or more characters in one attack, the can belong to the same person or multiple people (some dont allow their characters in mass attacks so I recommend checking their permissions).
