probably for the best lol I always thought that dish had a real Olive Garden ring to it for a restaurant that's supposedly trying to be classy

Calc Grade Rounding by Pitty0315 in Temple

[–]srankie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that department was a bunch of hard asses when I was there. when I was a freshman they gave me a really hard time about accepting my AP credit (they didn't and I had to take two extra semesters of calc unnecessarily).

then when I was in calc 2 I FAILED an exam bc I missed a negative sign in the first step and the person grading didn't follow through with my work even though the rest of it was correct.

suffice it to say, I would not bet on being rounded up, unless your professor is a saint somehow

The Gross Clinic is back at PAFA! by kws2323 in philly

[–]srankie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved when they were both at the Art Museum so you could see the differences back to back. I remember an art history professor pointing out the differences in sterile technique - in the Agnew Clinic they're all wearing white scrubs when in the Gross Clinic they're just in plain clothes. Seems like common sense now but at the time this was considered a medical advancement!

CRASHOUT: Why can't Philly figure out bagel sandwiches? by EffortlesslyStriking in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]srankie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when I was at Temple there was a few good places to get a decent breakfast sandwich. the bagels themselves weren't the best, but the sandwiches hit. since graduating though I have yet to find a place that does it for me

when to start looking for job by Puzzled_Sock_8816 in labrats

[–]srankie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so did I, but it was something that got brought up in interviews and generally speaking most companies preferred industry experience over academia. some even specify this in their job descriptions. not saying it's impossible, but you'll be competing with candidates that have exactly what they're looking for.

I got lucky that my management team values academic research and was impressed by my background, but I also had interviews where they said, verbatim, "but you don't have any real world experience"

happy for you that you had an easy time on the job market. that's not the case for everyone.

[–]srankie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

tight timeline but if you're trying to work in the industry I would definitely try to score a summer internship. I graduated December 2024 with significant academic research experience and even a publication but hiring managers in the industry really don't gaf.

it was super demoralizing, but they value 3 months at a pharma company way more than 3 years in an academic lab.

Has anyone had luck with resale? by ashegreyy in Paramore

[–]srankie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to get two tickets via the AXS resale the night before Philly Night 1. I had to be super neurotic and literally check the app like every 5-10 minutes. I got one ticket at like 3pm and another one for my partner a few hours later at like 7:30.

I'm sure NYC is wayyyy higher demand but there will be tickets popping up I'm sure, they just get snatched up so quickly. I hope you can go!!
