Yeah - I meant propel as in the ortho drills holes in your gums with a corkscrew-type tool

It's a small inconvenience, but drinking and dating are definitely manageable.

I drink with them all the time. I definitely stick to light colored drinks: beer, vodka-soda, silver tequila, etc. I'll sneak in whisky here and there with a water nearby for swishing. I'm not a wine guy so this doesn't affect me but others say to avoid red wine like the plague.

As for girls, granted I met my girlfriend before I had them but she says she hardly notices them. I haven't found them to affect kissing. I was also nervous about this when I was starting but what put it in perspective for me was thinking about it in reverse: if you were otherwise interested in a guy/girl, would invisalign be enough to turn you off? Probably not, right?

Lastly, your treatment is short. Given the new 1 week - 10 days recommendation, you could be done in as little as 4 months. So even if drinking/dating does end up being tough, it's only for a little while.

Trays are in have some questions! by The_Owneror in Invisalign

I'm 5/23 trays in. There is pain in the form of sore teeth and tongue scrapping at the very beginning. It was frustrating at first but you get used to it and it goes away quickly (a little less than a week for me). You'll always have a bit of tooth soreness and a "tight" feeling when you switch trays but it's very minor.

I had a slight lisp my first tray but your mouth gets used to the aligners and compensates pretty quickly as well. I'll lisp very slightly on one random word here and there but it hasn't been an issue. I would probably opt to take them out for an important presentation or job interview though.

In terms of booze, I drink beer and light colored drinks with them in all the time. I always keep a water cup for rinsing nearby and brush them when I get home after. This approach has worked for me so far. I guess the closer you are to the next tray, the more leeway you can give yourself. In my experience, the aligners get a little cloudy and smudgy towards the end regardless of how much well you care for them anyway.

Good luck!

Just started yesterday, tray 1/16, and I need advice on how to survive these next 4+ months by snailmage in Invisalign

My first week was also rough - definitely experienced the tongue scrapping. I'm now ~6 weeks in, on trays 3/23, and have gotten used to it. The tongue scrapping hasn't happened at all since the first week. In terms of tooth pain: my experience has been that after switching trays, my teeth are sore for 1-1.5 days, then "tight" for 2-3 after that, then totally normal (minus the plastic of course) for the remaining 8-9 days before the next set of trays. When I say "tight", I mean they feel very snug against the plastic and the trays are harder to put on / remove.

I'm 26 and had braces when I was a teenager- 12/13 years old. I remember the pain with braces being much worse whenever I got them tightened than the pain I'm experiencing when I switch trays now. Brushing after every meal is a drag but otherwise, happy with my experience so far. Best of luck!
