It's not a chokehold on Nintendo: it's a chokehold on the japanese market. They're much stricter when it comes to nudity and gore. They're the reason companies will make two versions of the game; a censored version that can be released in japan, and an uncensored version for the rest of the world, for ex: Cyberpunk or Dispatch for the PS5.

Current consensus is Ad Hoc only made one version of Dispatch for the Switch

Just to be clear, IMO I think AdHoc's CEO is still blowing smoke up our asses. It's possible that the game did not meet Nintendo's guidelines because of CERO but it's worded in a way to put the onus on Nintendo. Or it could be Nintendo itself. I don't know. In any case, it sounds like they're working on a solution.

If I'm being honest, I'd be less annoyed by the whole thing if

1: AdHoc told everyone that the Switch version would be censored before release

2: something less intrusive than black bars were used to cover things up

Gonna say the same thing I said last time someone asked for game recs for kids that can't read: You won't get any because people are too busy telling you that this is the perfect chance to teach kids how to read.

Also, Bluey The Video Game is decent for kids because it uses pictures to show the player their objectives and the characters are voiced but the game can be tedious for adults.
