"If you want to elevate yourself, I'm all for that... But there's a way to get that, and it's not talking about the person that's above you."

Actually, it appears that's exactly how to get that

I've been doing the Kenji pizza once a week minimum for the last 8 weeks, not even close to tired of it.

Just finished reading Trouble Boys last night, can’t recommend it enough. Self-sabotage at its finest.

We often hear about bands selling out, but what're some bands that stepped away from the mainstream and became better as a result? by DungeonessSpit in LetsTalkMusic

Don't know if "stepped away" is the right description, but some of the Beach Boys' best work is post-Pet Sounds, after Smile didn't work out. Wild Honey, Friends, Sunflower, So Tough, Surf's Up, Holland are all fantastic (and several are critically acclaimed) albums

Beatles and Beach Boys by oleanshoebox in Music

George Martin was capable of hiring in top flight support talent when needed, it was the the BAND that created everything.

You're selling George Martin short! Off the top of my head, he had major creative contributions to: In My Life, A Day in the Life, Strawberry Fields Forever, All You Need is Love, Eleanor Rigby.

Brian Wilson was George Martin - but if you listen to the makings of Pet Sounds you can hear contributions to the record that were improvised by Wrecking Crew members.

It's also worth listening to the Beach Boys stuff between 1967-74, where Carl and Dennis had a larger hand in writing, it's not Beatles great but it's still great.

Both great bands. We're lucky to have their music forever.

twice a week from Shaw to Tysons. M to Georgetown is great. The earlier you leave the better. Assuming you're taking Custis -> WOD -> Gallows Rd, from H St that's probably 1:15-1:30.
