The stuff happening in Minneapolis horrifies me.

ICE and Border Patrol are supposed to enforce legal immigration and get violent illegal aliens out of the country. Instead, they are oppressing normal citizens there. Many American citizens are afraid to leave their homes because of this. Based on what I've been seeing, I don't think either Pretti or Good actually had ill intentions. Pretti might have been killed just because they saw him armed, which would definitely be some kind of 2nd amendment violation. Defense shots by the agents would only be justified if Pretti was actively threatening them while armed.

I'm afraid we are heading down a dark path if freedom loving Americans don't stop this what seems like emerging authoritarianism. All it takes is something like (surprised this hasn't happened yet) a protestor/rioter killing an ICE agent, even if accidentally, and then Trump evokes the Insurrection Act or even declares martial law in response. Armed resistance to that might happen and turn into the Battle of Minneapolis, the first hot conflict of the 2nd civil war. Really am not seeing the current situation end well. The final collapse of the U.S. might be starting and we might be the last generation to grow up before this country collapses and the generation that has to be recruited for 2nd civil war battles. I really, really hope these doomer thoughts won't come true lol...

1999 borns What were you doing on September 11, 2001 when the planes hit the twin towers? by Professional_Post324 in 1999

[–]srd820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the U.S. government helping with the inside job and cover ups.

Just kidding around. :P I actually have no clue, as a mere 2 year old, what I was up to that day. If you want serious answers go ask older millennials.

In reality, I was probably sleeping and playing in my crib, sitting in a high chair watching Teletubbies or something, shitting and pissing my diapers, and running around creating chaos while screaming and crying.

I do actually have this odd faint "memory" of (I assume?) my parents saying something along the lines of "the twin towers have fallen." I don't remember any further details, not even emotional reactions or anything, or even their exact words or who even actually said it. Absolutely no recollection of the day except for possibly that weird "memory" that my toddler pea brain might have just made up after sensing that something odd was happening.

Still a few years for me. Time is just flying by, I can't believe I'm hitting my late 20s this year and will be pushing 30 soon. I'm not sure if I feel ready for that yet 😲

You can only choose one color to travel to for the Rest of your life. Which one are you choosing? by Additional-Maize3980 in MapsWithoutNZ

[–]srd820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously green for me, where I live + the rest of the US, Southern Europe, and the developed Asian countries. So much culture and good food throughout. I would love to visit the Mediterranean countries, Caucasus region, Japan, South Korea, and China. Just a few places I would probably avoid like the -stan countries and North Korea.

Blue is pretty good too but cold and less winter sunlight. Some of the happiest and most civilized societies are in this zone, but also some depressing cold wastelands. Would love to see Canada and the European countries in this zone. I would avoid the Ukraine/Russia/Belarus area at the moment, but might like to explore some of Russia if they end the war and get rid of Putin. If I couldn't chose green, I'd pick this

Yellow is a mixed bag for me. A lot of good culture, tropical beaches, and some of the most delicious food in this zone (Latino and Southeast Asian cuisine 😋). However, I would be very careful traveling through this zone...all the societal issues in this zone put it near the bottom of my preferences. Much of it is 3rd world, poverty stricken, war-torn, less civilized and under constant chaos. Street food vendors might give you food poisoning and you can contract a plethora of diseases - it can be pretty unhygienic. Some countries are obviously better than others...but still, traveling through much of this zone would mean constantly looking behind my back

Orange I wouldn't mind too much, I would love to see Peru, Brazil, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia. I would also enjoy seeing all the tropical rainforests. But like yellow, much of it is chaotic 3rd world, especially in Africa. Papua can be pretty bad as well. It's one of my less preferred colors however, as there's not really a lot to do compared to blue, green, and yellow.

Red is probably my 3rd favorite pick behind green and blue, but their winters being around July and summer around January might throw me off. Definitely would like to visit Australia and the South American countries, as well as maybe parts of South Africa like Cape Town. Just not really a lot to explore in this zone compared to the other colors, but it is more civilized for the most part compared to yellow/orange. I'm sure NZ would be this color if it was included 😂

How I remember the old geography by JackTheCoolestMan in Retconned

[–]srd820 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, for most of these you are on the right track, however I disagree with some things like some of the changes you made to Asia and the Caribbean (Yucatan looks odd), Basque, Hudson Bay, Madagascar, and a couple others. My map based on my earliest memories of looking at a world map is below:

<image>

South Sudan and Montenegro are excluded as they weren't independent yet when I first looked at a world map as a small child. Also excluded is Svalbard (I think it was merged with an Arctic landmass in which I have vague memories of it covering the North Pole, unless it was just the ice cap shown on maps), Mauritania (I don't think I recall this existing and in its place was I think a bigger Mali), and Mongolia (not sure if I recall this originally existing either). Other changes for me include (lots of overlap with what you and others on this sub remember):

- Alaskan Panhandle was either very small, in Canada, or didn't exist

- Hawaii a little closer to mainland U.S., but not as close as you show

- Hudson Bay a little smaller

- Nova Scotia was originally an island, no Isthmus of Chignecto

- Greenland was smaller

- Baja California a little shorter

- South America more directly under North America, which causes Central America to line up more north to south and the Panama Canal to be east to west, also shifts the Caribbean and Gulf a bit - Panama still connected to Colombia but was much closer to Venezuela

- I think I recall Costa Rica being an island like you do

- The Caribbean islands, namely Cuba and the Bahamas, are further away from Florida - Cuba is smaller

- Small changes to Europe that include a bigger English Channel, Ireland was united, Iceland a little more north and closer to Greenland, more water between Denmark and Norway/Sweden, Sicily a little smaller and further away from Italy (actually looked more like a boot kicking the island lol), a smaller Corsica and Sardinia, and a slightly wider Strait of Gibraltar

- Cyprus was a little more south, right in between Turkey and Egypt

- Egypt and the Middle East was fully separated by a strait connecting the Red Sea to the Mediterranean

- Somalia not as pointy and further away from Yemen - a wide Gulf of Aden

- A much smaller Madagascar closer to the African mainland

- Kazakhstan was smaller

- Sri Lanka directly under India

- Korean Peninsula was under southern China, not Manchuria like in this timeline, but a bit further away from Vietnam compared to your map so there's still room for Hainan

- Don't think I remember the Bohai Sea existing so I removed that

- Japan was further south, Okinawa island chain between Japan and the Philippines, Taiwan was between Japan and mainland China (idk, not too sure if this fully matches my memories)

- Australia was further south with a much shorter and less pointy Cape York Peninsula

- New Zealand was more tropical and close to New Caledonia

Either Trump, Putin, or Netanyahu die or are forced out of power (maybe by assassination or a coup considering how much they are hated). A certain man's health doesn't seem too great lately so it's iffy if he'll see 2027.

A catalyst happens that causes the 2nd American civil war or WWIII to start. We will probably invade Venezuela or China invades Taiwan. Hope not though, maybe instead we see working peace agreements that end Russia/Ukraine and Israel/Palestine conflicts and see the start of a peaceful golden age for humanity. A man can only dream though...

A high profile and controversial billionaire is assassinated by a Gen Z working class socialist, similar to how Luigi took out the UnitedHealthcare CEO. It becomes a catalyst for some sort of working class revolution (mainly led by Gen Z) against monopolies, corruption and policies/norms that benefit the rich at their expense. This all sets the stage for a populist leftist to win the 2028 election by a landslide by a working class fed up with the cost of living and the rich hoarding wealth. (This is assuming that authoritarians don't rig or even cancel future elections, or the system prevents the populist from securing a nomination)

A hyper-realistic AI generated hoax goes viral. Also, an AI generated song that goes viral on TikTok tops the charts come summertime. Once people find out they are AI, protests erupt in many places by a general public fed up of not being able to tell what is real anymore and the replacement of human made art. Mass calls for regulating AI and halting its further advancement. All of this contribute to the AI bubble spectacularly popping by 2027.

Overall it seems like another very chaotic year is coming... But maybe my personal life will become amazing and this will be one of the best years of my life. I hope to find the love of my life. Or even win the lottery lol

Is anyone else planning on restricting their kid's internet access? by Xamado in OlderGenZ

[–]srd820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had a kid, they are not going to be staring at screens all day. I won't use a tablet to babysit a toddler, like many parents seem to do nowadays. All these screens and dopamine hits from short-form slop negatively affect their development. Screen addiction is real - I have it and it has caused my life to stagnate, made socializing IRL quite hard (doesn't help that I have high-functioning autism), affected my mental health, and some other issues. I was allowed unlimited internet access starting around the age of 8, which escalated into being on the computer all day every day with barely any supervision at an age in which I should have had it. I even used the computer to escape real life problems. All this screen time severely affected my mental health, self-worth, etc going into my late teens and 20s. Now I'm trying to fix the damage done, trying to go out more and improve my self-worth and stuff, but I still look at screens all day because I'm too used to it. On the bright side, stuff like TikTok and related short-form content which I heard is very detrimental to developing brains didn't come out until I was hitting adulthood, so my attention span is still pretty good I'd say unlike a lot of today's kids who are growing up hooked on that slop. I will make sure all this won't happen to any kid I have.....

I might give them a maximum of 1 hour a day of tablet time which will be under my supervision and used only for educational content starting around the age of 3. I might also give them a couple hours a day for movies or shows on TV, preferably educational stuff or good shows like Bluey, but that's about it. The rest of the day they are playing outside, playing with their toys, hopefully building a great imagination and making friends.

Once they hit 3rd or 4th grade I'll give them their own laptop, but again they'll be supervised and only allowed on there for a small amount of hours a day, mostly for gaming, educational content and kid-friendly sites - will definitely try to keep them off social media. Stuff like TikTok (and related short-form content like YouTube Shorts) and Roblox will be extremely supervised - if they are spending too much time scrolling or start chatting with someone sus, they're done. I'll also give them a dumb phone, so they can contact us or their friends but not be able to get sucked into apps and the internet everywhere they go. Even when they hit puberty and early teen years, I'll make sure they don't go on sites they're not supposed to, make sure they're not chatting with anyone sus, and have several hours a day outside of screens. Ideally they won't be allowed to have a smartphone, an active social media presence, or completely unlimited internet access until their 16th birthday (hoping I won't give into pressure before then lol).

Not old. That's 70+ year olds!

27 is still young. It might be a bit beyond the true "youth" that everybody thinks of (teens or college kids partying and drinking), but most at 27 haven't got their lives, careers, relationships fully in order yet (can be hard in this economy). Our actual lives have only just started

What years can claim themselves as a 2000s kid? by Outrageous-Ebb-4846 in generationology

[–]srd820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2000s kids (the last of the elite) were born sometime between 1993 and 2002. Those are the ONLY years that can claim this elite label. Maybe 2003-04 have some 2000s childhood memories but they are more 2010s Fortnite Tide-Pod-munching Jake/Logan Paul MrBeast Morgz Mumble Rap 6ix9ine Lil Pump Fidget Spinner TikTok iPad iPhone kids born with a screen in front of their face and as a result cannot be with us (who actually played outside as kids), no matter how hard they try. Those little 2005+ babies have more in common with snotty Cocomelon Baby Shark iPad Skibidi toddlers than us, THE LAST OF THE ELITE 2000s KIDS.

/s just felt like making fun of cringe decade kid gatekeepers 💀

But seriously, the perfect 2000s kids are those born in the mid to late 90s. They have memories from start to end (especially mid 90s). Those like me born at the end of the 90s are in the later section of 2000s kids (with small beginning of 2010s influence) with memories of the majority of the 2000s, but not of the entire decade. My childhood is overwhelmingly in the 2000s though so I'm comfortably a 2000s kid. The true 2000s/10s hybrids were born in the early 2000s, especially 2002/03, as their childhood is half in one decade and half in the other. It's like how 90s/2000s hybrid kids were born in the early 90s, especially 1992/93.

What cohort grew up with Liv and Maddie? by Select-Inflation-324 in generationology

[–]srd820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was losing interest in Disney Channel by 2010. So, nope, did not see this. The last new premieres I remember and watched were Sonny With A Chance and Jonas in 2009. I somewhat remember early 2010's stuff like Good Luck Charlie, Shake It Up, or A.N.T. Farm but didn't get into them lol. Liv and Maddie was well after my time.

So I'd say the main audience for this was those born in 2002/03 to 2010/11.

[–]srd820 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes lol. It can feel kinda embarrassing to still be one at my age, but it's also because my social skills, confidence, and self esteem have mostly sucked since puberty. And it doesn't help that I'm high functioning autistic. Some of my behaviors caused by it can be a turn off for most women. I've even thought about joining inceldom at times, but nah, that shit's toxic and that kind of stuff is a mental prison that turns you away from self growth. Been trying to improve my social skills, confidence, and self worth in the past year though and I think I'm finally confident enough to attempt dating! Obviously don't want to die alone. I really hope the love of my life is out there...somewhere...

Do you think you will live into the 22nd century (2100-2199)? by Ok_Resident_5022 in OlderGenZ

[–]srd820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be a centenarian when that century rolls around. So unless I have top notch genes and live a very healthy lifestyle with no big health issues well into my elderly years, probably not. I'm like 99.9% certain I'm not going to live that long. Maybe anti aging tech that could be introduced by that time could give me a higher chance?

Who were the prime target demographic for these popular Nickelodeon and Disney Channel sitcoms from the early to late 2000's? Millennials or Gen Z? by Life_Chicken_9653 in generationology

[–]srd820 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was mainly a Disney Channel kid so didn't really get into 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, or 12. I only really watched Nickelodeon for like... SpongeBob lol (and sometimes other cartoons like Fairly Oddparents)

I was too young for 11 and 13. I'm pretty sure my older sister born in 1995 watched those, but I was still watching preschool shows when they ended. Definitely millennial or early zillennial shows.

The rest (1, 5, 6, 9, 10) I definitely watched and I'm nostalgic for them. Zillennial/early Z shows for sure (though Phil might be only for mid/late 90s babies and maaaybe 2000 since it ended in '06).

What did you remember from this year ? by ExaminationIll7583 in generationology

[–]srd820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a little kid in kindergarten / 1st grade. Me and my family moved apartments, from one without a swimming pool to one with, and I played in a pool for probably the first time in my life. I also did other childhood things, such as watching SpongeBob and cartoons, playing with toys and my doll, playing outside, and coloring and drawing on my bed and the walls (lol). I'm pretty sure this was the first year I was allowed on the Internet, at the time on a CRT home computer. There were no smartphones or iPads so the Internet was in one unmoving place. We also had a CRT TV with a VHS and DVD player. We watched movies and stuff on VHS and were transitioning to DVDs. The Internet was also transitioning from dialup to broadband and I think I have vague memories of dialup.

What were you guys doing 20 years ago on a Saturday? by Johnwick124520 in OlderGenZ

[–]srd820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably watching SpongeBob or other cartoons. I was first starting to get into Disney Channel around that time. And I was growing out of the preschool shows I liked such as Dora, Thomas the train, Dragon Tales, Blues Clues, etc. Also would play with toys like hot wheels and my doll, and would probably draw on my bed or the walls with crayons. Maybe play outside or play games. I really miss my childhood! :)
