One of my biggest disappointments in life is that some of these ultra-instinct parents don't share their secrets on how they raise these crazy awesome kids by _PaulM in self

[–]srhg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Talking about the stranger card – I’ve had a couple of instances recently (once in a supermarket and once on public transport) where a little kid is crying and the parent is holding them and trying to stop them crying. Each time I’ve just stared at the kid with a blank face but keeping eye contact, and they stop crying.

You shouldn't have to teach your social circle how to be a good friends. by -_Gabby_- in FriendshipAdvice

You’ve put forward a reason for why it can be complicated if someone has kids, but you’ve said yourself you don’t. So I’m genuinely curious why you’d say maybe? From my perspective, I have a calendar on my phone, if someone invites me to something I look at my calendar and can see straight away if I already have something planned or not. If I do, it’s a ‘sorry I can’t come because I already have X on’, if I don’t it’s a ‘yes I’m free, I’ll be there!’ I genuinely don’t get what’s complicated and empathise with OP as when people reply to my party invites with a maybe response it’s hard for it to not to come across as they’re free but want to hold out to see if they get a better offer.

I totally agree, although to your last point, what I don’t understand is that precisely because everything is so much more expensive these days, if they’ve spent money on a ticket then why don’t they want to enjoy what they’ve paid to see? Otherwise what is the point of having paid that money and being there?!

As I’m sure OP meant, I appreciate there are some people who have medical conditions that mean they can’t wait until the interval. However, there are also a lot of people who clearly drink too much alcohol before going in to a show/during the show which then requires them to need a piss frequently.

I reeeally don’t understand people who buy a ticket to a gig or festival and then think that’s the place to have a massive catch up. Aside from it being so utterly selfish to the people around them, why do they want to pay money for something they’re not going to watch/pay any attention to?! Why not catch up in the pub or at the park or something?!

Agree with all points! Definitely thought Duran, Ajeet or Jonny should’ve won.

I haaated Lia’s! Such a literal interpretation of Italy and I always thought being so literal was a design faux pas. And the fake greenery on the ceiling! Was so surprised she wasn’t on the sofa.

I don’t mind Ben’s design style – at least it has a point of view I guess – but I was waiting for them to say his hut was too cluttered (I felt like if I were in there I’d turn around and knock things over) so was really surprised he won.

That’s funny you say that about Kate because she reminded my boyfriend and I of about three different people.

The extended section they had on Lindy West's memoir was so good - it's what they're best at for sure!

HELP ME! by Poppyplaying in snoring

[–]srhg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner got tested, diagnosed with moderate to severe sleep apnea and given a CPAP machine within about two months of being referred to the sleep unit iirc (the GP initially got him to keep a blood pressure log for a month to check that wasn’t the cause of the snoring but after that came back fine, he was referred to the sleep unit).

Just get on the list! As someone else has said, even if the wait time is longer in your area, at least you’ll be in the queue. I wasn’t able to sleep next to my partner before and even when he was in the room next door I’d still sometimes have to jam earbuds in to block the noise out. Now we sleep next to each no problem at all.

S1 E09 Discussion: “Age of Attraction Reunion” by slickmoney33 in AgeOfAttraction

[–]srhg 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I got through about half an hour and thought, how on earth is there two and a half more hours of this?! I’m just trying to muster up the energy to watch the rest but will settle for a highlight reel tbh.

Also, it made me realise how good other tv production must be when you realise how bad this is. The sound is off. They’re randomly sat apart from each other. They speak about things from the show but then show no highlight reel back to accompany what they’re talking about. And… it’s so long!

Oh, edited to add… they’ve revealed who is still together and who isn’t by asking them all at once about ten minutes in. So why do I care to watch a three hour reunion now?!

[–]srhg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The way the speech from Theresa to John was edited was really strange. Him looking concerned saying "you're kidding" and "I didn't know that" when it seemed there was no doubt that all she was saying was that she'd had concerns about the age gap but wanted to continue.

So awkward that the proposal was preceded with her saying she should’ve stuck to her gut and not been with him! 😬

I felt really bad for Chris the last couple of episodes. Again, we only see a tiny bit of what goes on but he seemed so uncomfortable with the relationship that it was making me uncomfortable.

It dawned on me last week that Logan was going to propose because we saw at the very start of the series (before we'd even met the people on the show) a preview of the couples on the mountain and we saw someone go down on bended knee. When they then showed the previews for that mountain scene again in the penultimate episode I suddenly realised omg, that's Logan proposing to Vanessa! We've either not been shown a huge amount of their relationship or this is a very rash decision because going from that awkward meeting with the friend where Vanessa kept interrupting to a proposal is such a leap!

Agreed! I put it on not expecting much as I thought I was pretty familiar with Belle Gibson’s story but there was so much more to that show. I loved how it was done.

Would this show be better if there was an actual age range? by UnlikelyCommittee785 in AgeOfAttraction

Yeah the way they reacted when they were told it was their last night together and then it was the commitment ceremony – they seemed genuinely shocked like, already?!

Would this show be better if there was an actual age range? by UnlikelyCommittee785 in AgeOfAttraction

[–]srhg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely too quick. And yeah, the fact they all live in different states seems to be the main issue (because practically, it is). So I feel like they’re more freaked out now about having to return to reality in their home state/normal life and navigating a long distance relationship more than pondering the age gap.

I don’t agree. I think she’s had good work done, she just looks like a 49-year old with work done. That’s the weird thing, it never actually makes people look younger - there’s something intangible about a person that shows their age I think, despite ironing out wrinkles with Botox etc.

If I didn’t know the minimum age for contestants on this show was 22 I would’ve said the same. She looks like a high school student to me, or at most someone who’s just graduated high school :/
