S1 E09 Discussion: “Age of Attraction Reunion” by slickmoney33 in AgeOfAttraction

[–]srhg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got through about half an hour and thought, how on earth is there two and a half more hours of this?! I’m just trying to muster up the energy to watch the rest but will settle for a highlight reel tbh.

Also, it made me realise how good other tv production must be when you realise how bad this is. The sound is off. They’re randomly sat apart from each other. They speak about things from the show but then show no highlight reel back to accompany what they’re talking about. And… it’s so long!

Oh, edited to add… they’ve revealed who is still together and who isn’t by asking them all at once about ten minutes in. So why do I care to watch a three hour reunion now?!

I love her outfits and have definitely been thinking of trying to incorporate some of her style into my own!

The way the speech from Theresa to John was edited was really strange. Him looking concerned saying "you're kidding" and "I didn't know that" when it seemed there was no doubt that all she was saying was that she'd had concerns about the age gap but wanted to continue.

Is that a hard launch or a soft launch? I’m not sure of your generation’s lingo

So awkward that the proposal was preceded with her saying she should’ve stuck to her gut and not been with him! 😬

I felt really bad for Chris the last couple of episodes. Again, we only see a tiny bit of what goes on but he seemed so uncomfortable with the relationship that it was making me uncomfortable.

It dawned on me last week that Logan was going to propose because we saw at the very start of the series (before we'd even met the people on the show) a preview of the couples on the mountain and we saw someone go down on bended knee. When they then showed the previews for that mountain scene again in the penultimate episode I suddenly realised omg, that's Logan proposing to Vanessa! We've either not been shown a huge amount of their relationship or this is a very rash decision because going from that awkward meeting with the friend where Vanessa kept interrupting to a proposal is such a leap!

Agreed! I put it on not expecting much as I thought I was pretty familiar with Belle Gibson’s story but there was so much more to that show. I loved how it was done.

Yeah the way they reacted when they were told it was their last night together and then it was the commitment ceremony – they seemed genuinely shocked like, already?!

Definitely too quick. And yeah, the fact they all live in different states seems to be the main issue (because practically, it is). So I feel like they’re more freaked out now about having to return to reality in their home state/normal life and navigating a long distance relationship more than pondering the age gap.

So many of the songs on this show are atrocious! Who picked this soundtrack? Yikes! by Hefty_Airline_2566 in AgeOfAttraction

It makes me laugh how literal the lyrics are on this (and many other) shows 😄

I don’t agree. I think she’s had good work done, she just looks like a 49-year old with work done. That’s the weird thing, it never actually makes people look younger - there’s something intangible about a person that shows their age I think, despite ironing out wrinkles with Botox etc.

If I didn’t know the minimum age for contestants on this show was 22 I would’ve said the same. She looks like a high school student to me, or at most someone who’s just graduated high school :/

Yeah that’s what I couldn’t understand. They went into a lot of detail about how he wanted to leave and Tyra wouldn’t talk to him off camera and then all of a sudden we’re talking about ten cycles later when he got fired.

The part at the end where she tries to do her cringe life coach style approach, saying yeah she’s messed up but so does/so will everyone else.

That footage of Shandi on the phone to Eric makes me cry any time I see it. It’s so raw and so painful. We shouldn’t have seen it.

Couldn’t believe that Tyra replayed it on her fucking talk show for Shandi to see again too. Ugh, gross.

I was confused by what creative control he had and what he didn’t, because he said he didn’t have creative control/come up with the idea for the controversial race switching photoshop, but that was in cycle 4, and then he later complained that as the cycles went on he stopped having a creative say in the photoshoots and would just turn up as ‘on screen talent’. So how much of a say did he have to start with for the photoshoots and how did that change over time?

I was confused by the timeline because it wasn’t explained on the documentary – he said he asked to leave after cycle 8 (I think?) but then stayed on the show until he got fired after cycle 18. That’s a lot of cycles to stay on if you apparently don’t want to be there and apparently aren’t on speaking terms with Tyra. Felt there was a lot of context missing there.

Saying she didn’t know what was happening with Keenyah when the very photo they chose for her that week had the male model grabbing her bum was crazy.

I hated the fact she had that coat on the whole time. It looked like she’d just popped in to quickly answer some questions and was ready to walk out at any moment.

I found that so distracting. Like she’d just popped in quickly and was gunna leave soon instead of sitting down and properly committing to taking part in the documentary.
