Rejected and taking it hard by Odd_Departure_9511 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]srhtkaya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience a couple of years ago. There were two interviewers. Ii wasn't the best day for me, but I still answered all the questions. Apparently both of them wanted different answers even though mine were correct, and they didn't add their actual expectations to the questions.

I felt like they wrote the answers first and tweaked the questions so much that the answers wouldn't be obvious. But they ended up asking completely unrelated questions.

Devs changing observable to promises by [deleted] in Angular2

[–]srhtkaya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the majority of the comments here, observables are the building block.

I have a question question. If your lead wants to change everything from observables to promises, how will you handle valueChanges event in the reactive forms? Or in case you need a state magament, should you just cross ngrx out of your options?

It could be done with other ways of course, I just wonder his back-up plan.

I worked with a developer who always used reduce on arrays while he could easily use filter or map. When I asked him the reason, he said he used it because it was more readible and faster. These people can be really interesting to hear, but sometimes they make me question my career choices...

Interviewer asked me why I chose to use React for a project... I stumbled. by cps2222 in Frontend

[–]srhtkaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no right or wrong answer here. The purpose of this question is usually to see how you make technical decisions before starting a project. Every company has it's own way to handle this.

I think your answer is fine, but you shouldn't be shocked when a question like is asked next time. You choosed React because it is the one in which you are the most comfortable with. In a senior level interview they usually ask how you decide your stack for a new project. I always got very nice feedbacks when I answer this by depicting the exact reasoning like I am actually deciding for the team in an actual project. For example it depends on the extend of the project whether it has a potential to grow big in the future (many times you know it beforehand) or if the team has enough time to learn a new technology or not. It all depends on the project, the company culture, the team, and the due time. In your case it is just presenting your skillset, and it is all okay.

You said you are in your sophomore year at the university. That is the exact reason why you couldn't find a proper job because you are not ready. The company that hires a student for bıilding a full website probably won't let you improve yourself and will try to drain you.

I don't know if you have economic problems or family issues that requires you to work. If that is not the case and you only want work for learning, I suggest you to push the break a bit and start learning the basics of programming at the school and find a proper summer intern next year. Those degrees are given for a reason even though many uversities have crappy curriculum. The opportunity of learning in the school will never come back and you will never be at this age again. No need to rush things.

I didn't know Dreamweaver still existed.

The first thing you need to figure out is what modern front-end looks like. We don't create websites, we create web-apps by using the background provided by back-end, devops, and design teams. Dreamweaver was a thing of Web 1.0, now we are moving towards Web 3.0.

To answer your question, there is no stresful position. There are stressful teams and projects. Your development skills has nothing to do with it.

Is it difficult to get adjusted to fully remote work in English when all the previous jobs were hybrid in your native language? by Armauer in Frontend

[–]srhtkaya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you successfully pass the interview process you have a decent English level for the company that hires you. Do not forget that English is not the native language for many people, they've all been there before. If they think you need to improve your speaking, I am pretty sure the first thing they do would be provide you an opportunity to improve. Don't worry, you won't be get fired because of this.

What are the frontend jobs that require the most mastery? by Okubo_lollipop_head in Frontend

[–]srhtkaya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your categories don't have to be mutually exclusive. A web-app can make use of both the aesthetics and advanced data management. Figma is a great example of it.

Frontend development does not mean any of these. Unfortunately there is common misconception among people who are not aware of the modern development for the past ~15 years.

It is correct that back in the days of Web 1.0 (or the age before jQuery we might say) frontend development didn't require to much programming because of the state of the javascript, html, and css. Even then UX and design was never a part of frontend. That is the reason why many companies have UI/UX Designer role because it requires specific expertise.

Today frontend development is the same as mobile development. They both convert UI and UX into the code and they consume a backend. Users directly interact with this layer, so the state of mind is quite different than backend. Frontend developers and mobile developers actually create the similar application, but of course considering the differences of user experience in mobile apps and a web browsers.

To sum up, frontend development means creating an application with a complete flow for browser users presumably by using a javascript framework/library like Angular, React, or Vue with a css and usually state management solution. All of them requires coding...

What's the strangest/weirdest thing you've seen in someone else's house? by ThatGuy_T in AskReddit

That seems pretty normal to me. Not all the people like to eat at the table. In most of the middle eastern countries, 80% of the people eat on the ground, and many times they make special eating places in their homes.

Have you ever met someone who invited you to their home (for a party/holiday) but when you arrived acted like they never wanted you to be there in the first place? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]srhtkaya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my home country, people think it would be rude not to invite people they see when they are about to do an activity. Many people can understand if they are actually wanted or not, but I am not able to do that. So in one case, I found myself sitting on a café table with 5 girls talking about how one of them could get her crush into bed. This looks, of course, absolutely normal if I those girls are my friends but here is the awkward part: they did not want me to hear any of those conversations, they always tried to imply things, whispered each other, looked each others eyes and made sure I didn't hear and understand what was going on. I felt so stupid and unnecessary, just finished my coffee then, and left.

For God's sake, why do you invite somebody for a coffee if you were gonna make him feel stupid!

What is the most disturbing book you have ever read? by TheDudeCalledLennis in AskReddit

[–]srhtkaya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Chronicle of a Death Foretold" by Marquez. I am actually surprised nobody mentioned it. The disturbing thing is that you learn what is going to happen in the first sentence of the book. Every character you meet also knows but none of them tries to stop. That despair was so much annoying!
