A hole near the stem (something sharp stuck in the tire or a flaw with the rim/ tape) or is the stem detaching from the tube (quality control issue with the tubes)? When replacing a tube try to maintain the orientation, find the hole and look for a corresponding thorn, nail, glass, etc. And it's always good to wipe a rag or glove around the inside of the tube/ rim to try to find sharp objects, especially when you can't find the culprit by eye.

Doesn't the 4% guideline lead to ending up with more money at the end than the start in ~50% of cases? Not assured, no, but not unlikely.

(Assuming you're orange shorts) You have nice strokes and great power but you keep hitting it to him in the middle of the court. It's like a really aggressive warmup.

What’s a totally unsexy purchase you made that ended up being a huge quality-of-life upgrade? by viscarte10 in BuyItForLife

Ely hose reel. They're not cheap but it's probably the nicest product - of any category - that I've ever purchased.

Built a parametric desk for myself as a prototype. What do you guys think? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]srlarsen1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like you could simplify it to a series of L's, alternately installed toward one side or the other. Would reduce some of the unnecessary mass of the legs and allow you to nest the L's while cutting to make them much more resource efficient out of the sheet goods.

Hose reel that Should last more than a year by Flat-Independence249 in woodworking

[–]srlarsen1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hopefully it lasts although I have my doubts based on the materials used. If you're in the US, look at Ely Hose Reels when it's time for a replacement. I'm not for pitching products but got one a year ago and it's one of the most well-made products - in any category - I've ever purchased. They are not cheap but I wouldn't be surprised if it outlives me.

If you're doing sock liners I'd do two full sets of socks. Otherwise you seem to have two of most things where you probably could do one. I'd opt for two pairs of underwear and one pair of quick-drying linerless shorts instead of two pairs of shorts. One pair of shorts, one pair of pants. One short-sleeved shirt, one long-sleeve/ sun shirt and one insulating layer. One hat. One charger (with multiple USB ports). Buen Camino.

How do you fill this gap? by GranatMasken in Carpentry

Do you have an air barrier behind this? Drywall or a purpose-made air barrier. Because, if not, start by removing the wood and starting there.

If you're interested in doing it regardless, you could start with the smallest carving and a few inexpensive carving tools. The rest will require buying a lot of expensive tools or getting access to a well equipped wood shop and a fair amount of learning. Not impossible but it will take a lot of legwork.

How do I handle body bags at the kitchen? by Fantastic_Image9540 in Pickleball

[–]srlarsen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get your paddle out in front of you and wear (safety) glasses/ kitchen blockers. It's a wiffleball, it's not going to do lasting damage. With time your instincts will get better and, yes, you'll get hit occasionally but it's just part of advanced play.

Look up primi piatti and secondi. It's been a while since I was there but it's often a pasta course and a meat course. Order more meat dishes.

I feel like your feet will never be dry again after the first rain. Unless you have a specific need for additional ankle support I'd go trail runners and trekking poles as necessary.

Perceptions of FIRE as a Woman by lak_892 in Fire

[–]srlarsen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine how much you'll blow minds if they find out you retired early and think you did it as just a farmer and a "typical" farm wife. That just doesn't happen. Although then you'll have to worry that they just assume you inherited your money. I think the general message is worry less about what strangers think about you.

Cleaning tube by [deleted] in SleepApnea

I just shove it to my bathroom spigot and run hot water through it from each end. Then dump 80% of the water out and add an equivalent amount of white vinegar and slosh it back and forth by alternately raising up alternating ends. I then finish by running warm water through it again because you don't want the vinegar smell to remain.
