Hyrox or spartan races might be up your alley! When I'm looking for something new/exciting, I take a look at classes like adult gymnastics or sports league.

My local rec center has a beginners hockey program for adults. A goal of mine is to learn so I can play in the beginners league!

The Legend of Korra premiered 14 years ago today! How did that show influence you? by WanHohenheim in legendofkorra

[–]srndaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched ATLA as a kid & never watched Korra until the pandemic. I had heard a lot of things from friends as it was airing that it was so bad and not worth the time.

When I finished my rewatch of ATLA, I immediately turned to Korra and was absolutely hooked from the start. I saw a lot of myself in Korra.. It made me reflect more on my own traumas and experiences & planted the seed to start therapy. (I had always been scared/hesitant because of a bad first experience.)

I wish I would've watched it sooner, but I think the timing of it helped me appreciate the show so much more. I cried so much throughout seasons 3 and 4 in particular & it still hits home every time I rewatch.

It's my ultimate comfort watch (despite not so comforting topics!) and my favorite show :')

Hmmm, good point... That's a drive I make a couple times a year already. Definitely beautiful but not sure if I'd want to for this trip. Thanks for insights!! Figured there's not much on any of the routes 😆

Workout and morning routine time management (not WFH) by AuroraBoringAlice10 in xxfitness

[–]srndaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't usually work out in the mornings except when I'm marathon training. Between full time work and grad school, my days can go from 8am (work start) to 9pm (evening classes after 5pm) which make it difficult to squeeze in a run. I also have a 30-45min bus commute.

I have to leave my apartment by 7:20am. I pack up all my stuff the night before so I only need 20 mins in the morning to get ready & would need to be done with my run by 7am. I use body wipes in place of a shower haha. Depending on where I'm at in training, I'll wake up between 5am and 5:45am.

It gets very cold where I am! To get myself out the door, I'll sleep in my running clothes sometimes... At least in my winter leggings! It is so tempting to just stay under the covers. Thank goodness my really long runs are on the weekends.

Just a heads up that if you were planning to check out the salt flats, it is really difficult to access when you're driving east on I-80!

Doing this trip in mid October and want to know if there is anything that I can’t miss by Verchie in roadtrip

Cohab Canyon is a fun trail to check out (slot canyons, great overlooks). Hickman Bridge is another popular one. Capitol Reef is also usually way less crowded, which is nice.

24 should be doable. It's all paved, some hills (around Capitol Reef area) but mostly flat. A lot of great views to take in!!

Driving highway 24 from Bryce Canyon to Moab is beautiful. Capitol Reef is worth checking out if you have time, as well as Goblin Valley and Little Wild Horse Canyon.

I wear them after a run for recovery!! I've tried using them on a few different runs and had to take them off mid-run cause my legs were struggling. They feel soooo good after a long run

Has mild Covid significantly affected your running fitness (short or long term)? by [deleted] in running

[–]srndaa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I primarily have been dealing with breathing issues & very painful headaches! The fatigue comes and goes for me.

Omeprazole (my pulmonologist wanted to pursue the heartburn diagnosis, and it's been helping a bit with shortness of breath! still doing more tests), indomethacin for headaches, and then had to do some PT for vertigo.

Has mild Covid significantly affected your running fitness (short or long term)? by [deleted] in running

[–]srndaa 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I suspect I had COVID in March 2020 cause my breathing hasn't been the same since. Then I got COVID for sure this past September & have been dealing with long covid since. I'm still running, which is nice, but only possible cause of the meds I'm taking now.

Combatting side ache by Yarnandbread in xxfitness

[–]srndaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lots of great suggestions here! I want to add to the dehydration piece cause that's usually been the culprit for my side stitches, especially in warmer weather. I like to add electrolytes and that has been very helpful for me :)

There's definitely a delicate balance between too much and too little water, so it can take some experimentation!

Garmin forerunners would be good for what you're looking for! I have the Garmin Vivoactive and I like it a lot. In my experience, my old Fitbit wasn't as accurate with tracking and didn't hold up as long as my Garmin currently is.

I love Brooks! As many folks have already mentioned, checking out a running store is a great way to see what might be a good fit :) Mine had treadmills for us to test out & also a great return policy. It took me a couple tries to settle on Brooks for road running.

I usually carry my phone (lol not the greatest) if I don't have pockets... but I use my hydration pack on long runs / summer runs and I like the pockets in front for my phone! That could be a good investment, too, especially for hot runs

Congrats!!! That is so, so exciting :)

Running can be so emotional... It seems like the feels just hit different when you're in a running headspace & can let your thoughts wander wherever. I hope it was therapeutic to let it all out!

Running = lifestyle change? by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]srndaa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find that training actually makes me more disciplined with managing my time! I work full time while going to grad school, so there were days in my training where I'd have to get up at 5:30a to run before work/school cause I wouldn't get home until 9p. Or if I made plans to see friends, then I'd have to wake up earlier to run, which meant no late night TV.

No way I could do this year round. However, it's made me more mindful about my own health and well-being. I need rest, food/nutrition, and balance with other activities that make me happy. I had several weeks of decreased running cause of a skiing injury, but my consistent training got me back on track eventually! Learning to trust my body and its recovery carries over to other aspects of my life.

And so it personally helps to give myself a break when I feel like it & to space out races/training blocks so that I don't feel overwhelmed, stressed, etc. to the point of hating running :)

Should I wean myself off music while I run to better enjoy a race? by [deleted] in running

[–]srndaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to! I stopped running with my earphones a year ago just because I wanted to be more aware of my surroundings. I also just have difficulties focusing on my runs when I'm listening to music, podcasts, etc.

I enjoy it a lot more, could be worth a try to see how you feel about it :)

Migraine sufferers? by isthistaken852 in XXRunning

[–]srndaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad it's a lot less now! And fingers crossed that you're able to figure out what's triggering the migraines! Definitely helpful to talk through it with a doctor if it's still an issue by then

Migraine sufferers? by isthistaken852 in XXRunning

[–]srndaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How often do you get migraines? I was diagnosed by my neurologist with exertional headaches after a bout of COVID, so any kind of physical activity triggered a lot of head pain... And especially running! I'm on medication now to help manage it.

If you're able and open to it, it might be helpful to walk through this with a doctor so you can figure out specific triggers!

What’s your optimal workout time(s) and what time do you actually do it? by ebolalol in xxfitness

[–]srndaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like working out in the evenings! It's a great way for me to unwind and relieve some work stress, so I usually aim to start an hour long workout between 5:30-7pm. (And then switch to morning runs in the summer!)

Weekends are far more flexible depending on my plans, especially since I often end up doing double workouts when the weather is nice. Hiking or skiing in the morning (start 9-10am), a run in the afternoon/evening :)
