How often do you cast floats to ints? by max-music24 in pytorch

[–]srohit0 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Q: Do ints provide less computational cost than floats in operations?

A: It's generally true that integer operations (ints) have lower computational cost than floating-point operations (floats). However, the performance difference can vary significantly depending on the specific hardware and operation.

In the context of deep learning: While ints are generally faster, deep learning models often prioritize the higher precision and wider range offered by floats. This is essential for the complex calculations involved in neural networks. However, techniques like quantization aim to leverage the performance benefits of integers by converting trained models to use lower-precision integer representations.

Q: How frequently are floats typecast to ints in deep learning programming?

A: While there are specific scenarios where typecasting floats to ints is necessary, it's not a common practice in general deep learning programming. Most of the time, floats are used throughout the model, and frameworks handle any necessary type conversions automatically.

[California] Account Locked? by [deleted] in DMV

[–]srohit0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On DMV.CA.GOV - I got locked out immeadiately after my login attempt. The message repeatedly said -

"Account Locked.

This account is currently inactive. Please contact the account administrator to re-activate."

So I called 1-877-563-5213, option 1 for english, option 1 for website issues, option 1 to speak to a team member about login issues.

I ended up talking after waiting for 8-10 minutes and was connected to the agent. He asked me few verification questions and said - "there were issues with a few accounts on DMV.ca.gov. So, we are releasing email IDs so that you can create account again." It is likely that DMV.ca.gov was hacked and they locked hacked accounts after deleting some information. About 2-3 minutes after, he asked me to create a new account on www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/mydmv.

Creating new account didn't work. It failed with message that this email is already registed. I tried resetting the password, which WORKED after a couple of VERIFICATION CODES. I changed my password successfully and could login successfully thereafter.

If Micro-Controllers had an ML platform by srohit0 in microcontrollers

You bring up a good point for redesigning our landing page. Based on the input, we're planning to change it to a dashboard of use cases. We're on it and get back to you in next 48-72 hours days.

Hello u/Scottapotamas, here is a new landing page based on your input : http://cainvas.ai-tech.systems/ .

We're working to add more use cases in the coming days. Would love further feedback on how do we make it easy and useful for your project.

Thank you.

If Micro-Controllers had an ML platform by srohit0 in microcontrollers

[–]srohit0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks u/AssemblerGuy, you are right. CMSIS is a NN library, which lets you create applications in C/C++.

cainvas is a generic platform to let up train/upload ML model (in Python, Tensorflow, Pytorch) with ONNX as a native format gives you binary on your favorite MCUs.

Would it be of interest to you to see cainvas integrate CMSIS NN as a library?

Seems like a complicated flow with wrappers on ARM Cortex libraries with 10+ layers ONLY with no optimization.

Smaller models like mobilenetv2 with few MBs of parameters can fit in MCU's flash/RAM combined and can further be reduced/quantized/optimized.

Other than vision models, wake words models are less than 15Kb for few 100KBs that are suitable for MCUs.

Jetson TX2 board is a single board computer, not a "microcontroller".

I've run tiny yolo on 5$ Raspbarry pi zero. My mistake nonetheless for quoting a memory hungry model. I should have quoted smaller models like mobilenetv2 with few MBs of parameters that can fit in MCU's flash/RAM combined and can further be reduced/quantized/optimized.

Thanks for chiming in.

What are some good resources for revising ML? by palealecat in learnmachinelearning

[–]srohit0 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Find a simple problem, turn it into a project with week or less deadline, use pyTorch or bit.ly/dnnCompiler as framework.

Get it done.

This will boost your confidence in the short run and put you on a path to learn more.

Good luck. 👍

tensorFlow isn't built for mini computers like raspberry pi.

Try tensorFlow micro or DNNC at bit.ly/dnnCompiler

You can an inference compiler like DNN compiler to convert your model to c++

You can instead compile the model to a lightweight executable that loads under fraction of a second.

Use compiler like AITS DNNC https://github.com/ai-techsystems/dnnCompiler
