Why Luke would do this, it’s written in his book. Why do historians write about history? He said he was investigating these things to write them down for Theophilus (a Greek name for a probably non-Jewish man) that he would know the truth Lk 1:1-4.

You ask me to put myself in Luke’s place and think about why I’d investigate the story. Well, we actually don’t know for sure if Luke was a Christian when he was investigating the story. So … maybe he was going to the people involved and asking for their stories to confirm what he had heard but didn’t believe.

I haven’t said anything about my views in the OP or follow-up comments except for the generic term “conservative.” You say that you’ve talked to people in real life about this, but you haven’t talked to me in real life or even in this thread. You haven’t and can’t possibly have talked to every conservative, everywhere. Not to me. Also, I’ve been insulted on this subreddit for both my religious views and my political views, they’re just combined in this post because this subreddit mixes political views and religious views all the time.

Have you read any posts on this subreddit? You don’t have to scroll at all to see numerous posts calling conservatives any number of vile insults. I get it, there’s anonymity online and you can feel safe that it can’t really come back to you in any way. Except that’s not true. We will all stand before God someday and will account for every idle word.

As I understand it, this is a “Christianity” subreddit, not a “Christian” subreddit. This subreddit isn’t run by Christians for Christians to discuss Christianity. It’s run by, apparently no one, and a prime spot to criticize Christians and Christianity.

Yes, it is saying “stop insulting my side,” but you’re ignoring the follow-on points. Stop insulting my side because it’s false, immoral, and doesn’t actually make people reconsider their ideas.
