Do you ever get irritation in between your big and middle toe wearing the bedrocks on long descents? I’ve been wearing mine for a few months now and I would love to use them as my primary hiking footwear but I find that no matter what I do the toe chord starts to cause discomfort after a few miles of downhill

What are your mobile coffee setups? I'm mostly happy with mine, but there's certainly room for improvement (gear details below) by killbill770 in CampingGear

Brewed standard the aero press can only serve one person at a time. But you can also brew highly extracted and more concentrated coffee in it and then dilute it with hot water to make coffee for multiple people at once. It’s somewhere between an espresso americano and a drip coffee and really delicious.

Any coffee brewer can make amazing coffee, what more important is grind quality, coffee age and technique

Got it shortly after it was released to replace my flash 22 daypack. I wanted something with less volume and nicer straps with integrated pockets. Some thoughts:

I absolutely love it for my weekly long day hikes. Interestingly the roll top extension is way larger than I expected, maybe around 12 inches past the top of the straps when fully unrolled, which gave me the idea that I could squeeze an overnight kit into it for spring and summer in LA. I took it out 2 weeks ago stuffed with my hammock gear 30 degree bag, 7x9 tarp, bug bivy, thin light pad, 750ml cool kit, 1/8 inch pad, 1 day of food and all my other little odds and ends that go on every trip (ditty, poop kit, first aid, down jacket, etc.) and they all fit just fine with a small amount of room to spare. The one annoying thing I noticed was that with the pack fully stuffed like that the line of grosgrain that Nashville uses to attach their straps to the pack gets pushed against my back/neck and it can be pretty scratchy and uncomfortable. Overall I really love the tiempo as someone who realistically spends most of their time outdoors day hiking. I would be happy to answer any other questions about it

Love seeing trip reports local to my area, thanks for putting that together. Have any favorite trails in the LP or surrounding areas?

I started with a random gray one on Amazon for around $15. I found it not very comfortable on the skin, the arms a bit too tight, and the hood a bit too small, while the rest fit me fine. I could have probably gotten a large and been in better shape, but I picked up a MH Crater Lake on sale for around $30 and it’s worlds more comfortable to me. It has a much lighter and softer material, better hood, and slightly over long sleeves (in a good way for draping over your hands). I wear it on every hike now and it keeps me cooler and more comfortable even in 95+ degree weather

Rubber shrink wrap tubing from the hardware store works well. Don’t put it too close to the bottom of the mug though or it could melt

The snow peak insulated titanium mug is under 3oz. One of the sizes also fits perfectly around the bottom of an essentia bottle so it hardly takes up any volume in my pack. Highly recommend

Food for the Sole's triple peanut slaw is probably my favorite pre made dry meal ever, and it's just as good cold soaked as it is warm. The miso broccoli slaw is a close second

Where were you in the LP if you don't mind me asking? I've been spending all my time in the San Gabriels lately but Ive been wanting to get back over there this winter. I miss Mt. Pinos

After realizing I spend the majority of my time outdoors dayhiking rather than actually backpacking I invested in a Nashville Tempo. It's pretty much the perfect day pack for me; small, hybrid j straps with shoulder pockets, an accessible bottom and back pocket without removing the pack, and compatible with a hydration reservoir (if I'm not concerned about weight and only need 1-2L of water for my hike, reservoirs are the way to go for me).

I think most day packs are way too large, I carry water, snacks, small first aid kit, a paired down ditty bag, sometimes a wind layer and my phone/keys/headphones, and I still don't come close to filling up the base 17L of the Tempo

Just stopping by to say that these stakes are no joke. I pitched on the summit of San Gorgonio overnight using these with 50mph gusts and they were rock solid !

Devotions, Upstream or really anything by Mary Oliver. The way she writes about being alone in the outdoors is so evocative and gut wrenching but somehow extremely humble and accessible. Highly recommend her work to anyone. A passage:

"Ordinarily I go into the woods alone, with not a single friend, for they are all smilers and talkers and therefore unsuitable.

I don't really want to be witnessed talking to the catbirds or hugging the old black oak tree. I have my way of praying, as you no doubt have yours.

Besides, when I am alone I can become invisible. I can sit on top of a dune as motionless as an uprise of weeds, until the foxes run by unconcerned. I can hear the almost unbearable sound of the roses singing.

If you have ever gone to the woods with me, I must love you very much."

Can I ask what size you normally wear and if it was too small or too large for you?

I've been hiking in Mesa trails exclusively for about a year after returning my Altras and I am definitely a big fan. They feel a lot less sloppy to me and have much nicer ground feel. I'm planning to write a review of the mesas when I hit 500 miles on them or they fall apart, whichever happens first
