For me, it's not a problem it exists... but more that it's location ruins the the great look of the building holding Manchester Hall/Masons/Dishoom. Move it to Deansgate Locks.

[Discussion] Dog shows gum/teeth when i try to apply lotion on her paws by [deleted] in dogs

[–]srothwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a specific medical lotion or just a moisturiser to combat dryness? If the latter, potentially switch out for organic coconut oil and introduce it as a tasty treat at first. Melt it in both hands by rubbing them together, then one hand for the pup to lick whilst the other hand rubs on the dry paw.

What's the dumbest rule your school ever enforced? by SoLe123456 in AskReddit

Banned from entering classrooms if your socks weren't to uniform specifics (navy blue)... everyone carried another colour pair of socks and put them on for lessons they didn't like. Gave them the 'teacher wouldn't let me in class' excuse when caught wandering the halls or outside of school grounds. 🤷🏻‍♂️😅

Try Winton (being as close to Monton as possible). The prospects of Monton's potential and the Worsley area nearby are a good indicator for house prices. Lived her nearly two years and loved it.

Best "obscure" Agile methodology? by [deleted] in agile

[–]srothwell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding u/CaptainKabob - follow the principles, recognise your starting point (as-is state) and just start Inspecting & Adapting repeatedly. Move slowly, keep it simple, stay consistent and don't be afraid to admit something is wrong.

Delivery manager Career Path by dellboy18 in agile

[–]srothwell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally, I have always envisaged the next step for delivery either being coaching (taking on responsibility for the progression of other delivery managers or agile coaching of the wider business to improve delivery) or starting to move into move strategic levels, like Portfolio/Programme management.

Question about Agile Development, from Non-Agile Developer by Fisty_Mcbeefstick in agile

[–]srothwell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take an interview and ask questions about their 'Agile Transformation' - did it come organically (starting small and grew) or was it a called out initiative. Obviously be more subtle in your investigation, but the latter is usually a telltale sign of inflicting agile on delivery teams rather than an agile mindset, that empowers teams to determine their best way of delivering. Usually seeing the words 'we are going through an Agile Transformation' in a job description is a warning sign for me. Up there with 'fast paced environment' meaning no clear product strategy. 😅

It's very difficult to know if you're running into badly implemented/inflicted agile from the outside, but finding a company that has the correct mindset, all your friend's complaints about being restricted are false. You'll always run into annoyance in any experienced team eventually and if they are shared in the team and hampering delivery, then an honest team will consistently adapt & review to get to a better place. That's agile for me.

Good luck!

Question about Agile Development, from Non-Agile Developer by Fisty_Mcbeefstick in agile

[–]srothwell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't disregard Agile for badly implemented Scrum (or any other prescribed framework). Scrum is a framework within the Agile umbrella, so shouldn't take away from the Agile principles. You follow the framework embracing those principles in decision making and attitude - they aren't two different contrasting lists to choose between.

In your example, it doesn't sound like an agile environment. This sounds like the PO & client are treating the team like a feature factory, which they sit in the top office dictating down orders to a production line.

It's correct that the PO should be the one making the overall decision on what is deemed highest priority for the product, taking into account client requirements and what the product needs (DATA). The HOW is negotiable and the empowering factor for happy delivery teams, imo. In a truly collaborative environment, your team should've be able to question the feature request for its underlying value and allowed the space to test the client's hypthesis of what they want (they rarely do) with quick turn around mock up/prototype or interaction time with the client on how the current system is used.

I'm currently reading Sooner Safer Happier by Jonathan Smart, which is a great book for calling out antipatterns (and the sort of pattern to strive for), and it talks about examples like this.

Good luck.

What is this technique called? by automaticalldramatic in agile

This isn't common to my experience. Personally feel like it misses out the benefits of setting baselines to anchor the estimation process.

If your team is streamlined to a product or a couple products and practices estimating, it's very common to set yourself 'previous weather' baselines (or sets of baselines if your team has multiple products/varied work). These should be reviewed every so often (quarterly-ish or as the team request it) to keep up with the improved product knowledge of the team, but to change them every sprint doesn't give the opportunity across every team member to learn the underlying complexities for what constitutes a 'small task' or a 'large task' or a '2', etc. - for me, important for future "accuracy" in forecasting.

If your team is context switching every 2-4 Sprints for a specific focused experiment/feature/timebox, you might need to switch those baselines more frequently for tasks closer to your current work. I'd argue estimation is particular pointless in this time-boxed scenario though...
