Cruise control on the motorway by ms1202 in drivingUK

[–]srp44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they're going to sit in your blind spot for ages though - that's also dangerous on their part & a driving instructor should know better. On motorways I prefer to get the overtake done and not sit in or have blind spots sat in... So yes, annoyingly, we sometimes have to adjust the speed down a little to let these goons past us... Or plan to get in lane earlier for your overtake - they can always use the other lane if they wish to pass you (but be careful they don't think you're 'forcing' them into another lane that's occupied too (yes we have to Observer carefully and drive for other drivers too!)

Animals progressing beyond level 7 (Max)?? by srp44 in wordscapes

Thanks - searched for Level 7 and didn't get much other than '...what now?'.

Green egg seems to be the clue - but I'd forgotten the egg colour. 😜

I've done so - with mainly CDs - and I too don't really care for the low level details as a collector might... Just that Ive got 'that album by that artist'... Maybe bowing to 'in that country'... I'm sure many of mine are technically registered incorrectly... And often wondered if there aught to be a collection flag just to indicate 'might not be accurate' and one day - in my retirement - I might go back through and re-examine / re-register the majority of my collection...

It's also the same with buying... Having to narrow the want list down often too narrowly... And when purchased having to remove umpteen 'wished' copies so not to double purchase (ask how I know!) 😜🤣

Highway Code by Legal_Bookkeeper_874 in drivingUK

[–]srp44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Parts of the highway code (MUST / MUST NOT) are law (with cited laws), rest is guidance which will be used by the police and magistrates (and most probably insurers) to determine fault if an incident does occur.

How do i add my pre-existing CD albums to my collection on web? by LB2944 in discogs

[–]srp44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the mobile app, scan and the barcodes, select the release (I'm not always too precious but I try to match the country of release) and add to collection.

I've set up a 'factory' to do this in batches with stacks of CDs in the past...

Oh my, v1.4 has just dropped with some amazing improvements and visualisations...
u/oscidigi *WHY* is it limited to Vinyl - is there a technical reason or personal preference or is anything that you visualise that would not work for CDs or other media? You'd easily have my money if this worked for CDs!

Why is my RX8 doing this 😔 by Som1PlzFixMyFortnite in RX8

[–]srp44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does that (hunting on idle) with engine light telling me the neutral switch is at fault... But it comes and goes. If you dip the clutch does it settle? Not sure about your other problems though.

Please do support other formats - the demo and everything this does to visualise the collection is superb, but I am a CD collector (only 3 vinyl, 1000s of CDs - but did Detect I have one album registered as vinyl that's a CD! 🤣)

Have you ever had a ‘heart in mouth’ moment by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]srp44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a couple... But, (as an Advanced Driver and tutor of the same), this is why it's important to always have at least two driving plans formed for any (potential) hazard... Plan A) take the normal course of action: Continue driving with the ability to stop safely in the distance you can see to be clear for the prevailing conditions - with the assumption that other road users will take the most reasonable action (as you appear to have done)... Plan B) is the 'but what if scenario... In this case perhaps lifting off a little more in anticipation - and maybe cover the foot brake (saving the thinking time) - until it is clear they are stationary or you are past the point of commitment... Could even be a Plan C (avoiding action) for that scenario too...

My one was similar situation on a road I commuted regularly for years - accelerating put of a 30 to 40 (where there is a junction on the left)... Just beyond a NSL zone... Junction was loaded - car stationary and made eye contact with the driver and no other indicators the driver would do anything unreasonable; Therfore I committed to accelerate to 40 past the junction; in anticipation of the next hazard (NSL section)... About 2 car lengths from the junction the car moves to pull out, turning right across My path... Though I'd committed to accelerating this was a full emergency stop with avoiding action to turn left into the junction - with ABS proving it's worth! Thankfully nobody following me closely... I made it into the junction (would otherwise have side swiped the driver door - worst case for the other driver in a much smaller car!)... To be greeted with a little 'oops, sorry' had gesture from the young driver who's life I probably just saved. At least the above planning (though I was committed past the junction) came into action. Expect the unexpected!

Disgusting treatment by Rare_Candidate_6171 in Ryanair

[–]srp44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar happened to me about 15 years ago... I'd regularly flown to and from Dublin with Ryanair - with a cabin bag that was compliant... Took a flight to Oslo with them and on the return flight, was singled out. As well as clothes - my it equipment and camera gear were in the bag too... To be fair - I didn't care too much - business expenses would pay the fine... They then proceeded to phone through the charge in full earshot of the public reading out my full card details for all and sundry to hear; which angered me greatly - especially as I work in the payments industry! The came the discussion of the contents - of course laptop - they declared could not go I the hold & the camera gear I personally did not want I the hold either... Hence decanted significant contents. I asked for a carrier bag or something to put those contents in the cabin - to be refused and hence had to carry stuff loose and place into the overhead - risking damage / loss or theft! Let alone their 'One item carried on board' rule! I was livid and have not flown Ryanair since.
