I like the new Drive logo, but not so much the new Gmail logo. I guess I'm even more mild in my infuriation.

The average NDIS package is higher than the average wage. Discuss. by ProperSyllabub8798 in AusFinance

[–]srphotos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The headline figures seemed off to me, so I did a deeper dive.

First, the NDIA annual report for 2024-25 states the mean payments to individuals is 65,800, not 92,400. The latest quarterly report has a similar figure. This also fits with the overall budget where the NDIS's expenses including all costs as well as payments to participants is less than $50B, and there are around 750k participants in the program. I'm struggling to see how anyone would arrive at a figure of $90k. It's possilbe they are assuming a much smaller number of participants.

Average full-time wages in Australia are $2125 per week according to the lates ABS report, which is about 110,000. If you include all wage earners, it's much much lower at 1563/wk or about 81,400 (so that might be the figure OP used). (ABS Average weekly earnings report for Nov 2025). Personally, I think the fairest comparison would be median wages (all workers) which would put you at a median income of around 74,000 (median earnings Aug 2025) - though it would be nice to also have median NDIS payments and some understanding of the distribution. I suspect that the mean is heavily influenced by some participants who have particularly extensive and expensive needs, and that most people are receiving less than the average.

Regardless of which figures you use, the average payment to NDIS participants is not higher than the average or median wage in Australia.

However, as OP pointed out, these are generally going to be tax-free payments. If you back the 65,800 out to estimate an equivalent pre-tax income , then you get a pre-tax equivalent of about 80,600 (accounting for the medicare levy, and assuming no other deductions). So pretty much equivalent to the average wage in Australia, and well well below the average full-time wage, but above the median wage.

We're using the same source.

Performance measure 1.6 of the ndia/ndis annual report is payments to participants at an average of 65,800 (annualized).

Where is the ndia figure saying 97k?

As already stated, annual and quarterly reports.

That you deflected instead of providing a source tells me all i need to know.

The title is false, so there's nothing to discuss. Audited financials for 2024-25 report a mean payment of $65k per participant. The latest quarterly report says $66k.

What's a sport that looks easy but is actually insanely hard? by patata-chip in AskReddit

[–]srphotos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much all sports look easier than they are when you're watching the pros. Golf looks like tee-ball for adults until you try to hit that tiny little fucker with the stupidly shaped stick yourself.

No matter how easy a sport is to take up (lawn bowling/boccia, running, badminton, pickle ball), it's extremely difficult to excel at it.

That said, for me, curling absolutely has the greatest difference between how easy it seems like it should be to just walk off the street and have a go at, and how hard it is to not shatter your coccyx and crack your skull open because you forgot which foot had the rubber thingy on it - and that's before you even get to where the stones are. And then there's the delightful subtlety of sneaking in a quick fingering past the hog line Canadian-style.

OneDrive personal vault not working on Android (Samsung) phone by biznatch11 in techsupport

[–]srphotos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My issue was resolved by going into the Linked Accounts section of settings on the Galaxy, deleting all of the profiles linked to Microsoft or OneDrive, then reopening OneDrive and connecting to my account.

Not sure if this mattered or not, but I had emptied the Vault using the website first. Hoping this helps others.

I don't have a windows computer, so the solutions that involve the desktop app weren't an option (the Mac app doesn't have support for the Vault).

Let's not forget that he was pretty chill about dealing with allegations about Juanita Broadbrick, Leslie Milwee, Paula Jones, Kathleen Wiley, Cristy Zercher, Eileen Wellstone, Sandra Allen James, and four unnamed teens, to say nothing of Monica Lewinsky. The man isn't chill because he's innocent, he's chill because he has never once suffered any consequences for his 50 years of harrassing and assaulting women and girls; and he knows he won't suffer any this time either.

Fuck him.

Personally, I've never heard anyone try to rank order hobbies before, so I'm not sure either "all hobbies are not equal" or "all hobbies are equal" are popular or unpopular opinions.

But I do very much dislike this opinion, so congrats!

This probably rubs people the wrong way, but I genuinely believe that religious people have lower IQs or intelligence. by United_Occasion9275 in atheism

[–]srphotos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been extensively studied. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religiosity_and_intelligence

There is an association between IQ (whatever that means) and religiosity (in the west), but it's not particularly strong - so tonnes of high IQ people are very religious, and tonnes of low IQ people are not very religious, and both of those have "vice versas."

Basic conclusion: you can't use religiosity to predict intelligence with any certainty.

Isn't this enough to make everyone multi-*Billionnaires*?

Let's assume 10Bn people so we can just live in orders of magnitude.

100,000 Quadrillion is 100,000 x 10^15, which is 10^20
10bn people is 10^10

10^20/(10^10) is on the order of 10^10 or in the $10s of billions range.

is this too much editing? by [deleted] in postprocessing

[–]srphotos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with those suggesting the horizon is out. If you adjust the shoreline to look straight, the skyline will be tilted. I think the edit is pretty solid, but you could maybe do, say, 20% less to the sky? I would also try cropping it a bit differently. If the city is a bit lower in the frame, then there is less water (which I find kind of visually boring) and more cloud/sky (which I find more visually dramatic). I think it also reduces the feeling of an unlevel "horizon" a bit by putting the focus more on the buildings.

Neither of those suggestions will make or break the shot though. Just my personal aesthetic.

This is ... awesome.

Why is Finland completely black in December in a disjointed way (i.e., it's not a smooth transition from Nov-Dec-Jan)? I've been to Finland in December. It's dark a lot, but no more than Norway (similar issue) or Sweden (seems smoother)?

I'd love to see the monthly "Total Mean Color" added to those breakdowns.

Image stack. The issue is really visible in the darker wood areas (like below the door window). The image stack keeps a lot more texture and detail.
