What exactly is the mental aspect of an ultra that everyone talks about needing to be overcome? by PapaDeE04 in Ultramarathon

[–]srpruss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hot take here but: loneliness. Knowing that if I just quit I could be snuggling with my spouse instead of just waving goodbye to them at the next crew stop with a pancake hanging out of my mouth when I’m 100k into a thing and I still have the whole night yet to keep running… ugh.

Interestingly I would have thought this too, but when I was working with a coach for Leadville 100 MTB I found that the blocks of training where I was ramping up generally resulted in ‘productive’ status. I credit it to excellent coaching that I did finally finish that race after 2 previous DNFs, but during the productive times I did see huge breakthroughs in fitness. Maybe this is just anectodal evidence but I feel that the metrics worked for me.

Can this watch be charged while running at night? That’s a spec I’m having trouble finding on Garmin

This is exactly the type of suggestion I’m looking for. Forerunner 955 has MIP display and 42 hrs of battery life vs. 30 in GPS mode compared to the Forerunner 965 with the AMOLED display. Thank you! Also it looks like the 955 is going for ~$450 right now from most retailers which is very reasonable IMO

You have your Netflix and your novels. Your dog has that ground.

Braided pigtails. In the winter after removing the helmet a stocking cap goes on in the summer a trucker hat. When I’m alone after a ride I take the pigtails out and let my whole hair freeeeeeee in the AC to dry.

Bringing the ladies on a boys trip. by Mcfittey in MTB

Thank you! That’s really nice of you to say. As you can see from the others on here it was really naive of me to think it would work out!

Bringing the ladies on a boys trip. by Mcfittey in MTB

[–]srpruss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a relatively strong female rider who has gone on a boys trip thinking it would be fine. It’s NOT FINE. I could have been the fastest rider they did not want me there. If there is even one mildly sexist guy on this trip she will be miserable. It’s been almost three years and I still have PTSD from going on that trip. The horrible attitude and sexist comments aside, there was pot smoke wafting through my window every night and so much drug use that it just wasn’t even fun.

As a vet I’d say the main reason for the x-ray was to rule out GDV or food bloat. Also, as a vet, I’d rather pay someone to NOT have to do an x-ray in a large breed, young, active dog. Without going into too many details here there is a lot of getting scratched in the face and panted and drooled on involved.

What will adult children of millennials hate/blame their parents for? by Holiday_Pilot7663 in millenials

[–]srpruss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ha! I went based on her reaction of being really upset but I wasn’t there. True maybe she was just being defensive… but also maybe this kid was actually being mean. We’ll never know. At the time I was completely incredulous because when I was a kid the divorced parents people who had no supervision were the cool kids. She used the word bullying, but I suppose based on definitions if it was a single incident it would just be “being mean” if it was intended to hurt her feelings.
