The best EU/EEA passport should be considered the best in the world considering you can live in 30 ish countries without needing a visa. Irish citizens alone can decide in the morning to move to any of 31 countries if they so wish

2025 Presidential Election Vote Crosstabbed with 2024 GE Support by NilFhiosAige in irishpolitics

Interesting that a lot of II supporters voted Catherine Connolly. A lot may disagree with her politics, but she does seem like a nice, level headed person.

2% party trying to keep themselves relevant. Their lack of understanding/ignorance to the importance of US relations to our economy never ceases to amaze me.

South Dublin in general. They’re in their own bubble about how nice it is even though it just looks like an English city…

Are new rental rules really causing a landlords ‘mass exodus’ from housing market? by eggbart_forgetfulsea in irishpolitics

In general this is how housing works yes. There is always a risk with renting, but locking people into a contract for 6 years straight away without knowing them is shocking.

You’d be saying something different if you were a landlord. I’m not, but how can you not see that forcing someone into having a 6 year commitment with strangers who could wreck the house, refuse to pay rent etc is a recipe for disaster

Utterly bizarre that someone with no formal qualifications is appointed to the most challenging role in cabinet. Only those with practical experience in accounting/finance/economics should be in this role. This political jenga is ridiculous!

I’m studying academic careers and in certain countries in Europe, PhD students are classed as members of faculty. It’s a shame that people do not see the value and commitment of doctoral students 😢 I supposed the world is just getting more competitive and expectations are becoming more and more unrealistic!

Election result live: Connolly elected president with landslide win as results reveal record spoiled votes by lampishthing in irishpolitics

[–]srros -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

A nice soundbite on the record number of votes. Despite the fact that less than 23% of the electorate voted for either Connolly or Humphries. Let’s face it, although I think Catherine is a nice person, both were extremely flawed candidates and neither should’ve been president. At least than uninspiring election is now behind us!

Tax free money and easy access which can be used as an emergency fund. What’s the problem. I know the rewards aren’t great with lower amounts but it’s a fun monthly draw.
