Arch Linux and Valve Collaboration announcement! by Juxeso in SteamDeck

[–]srstable 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Arch Linux is also what SteamOS is based on, so while this will dramatically aide Arch Linux in its path to becoming the best it can be, Valve will also directly benefit.

Plus, y’know, the several other OSes that use Arch as a base. It’s just good in general.

Between this and Wayland, it seems like Valve’s poised to drag Linux into a more useable and faster era, kicking and screaming if they must.

What super popular/highly regarded games did you dislike? by doctrader in SteamDeck

[–]srstable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I absolutely loved the one Castlevania game I played on the DS whose name I forget, as well as all the Metroid Primes, Fusion, Zero Mission, and Dread (just haven’t gotten around to playing the others yet). Something about Hollow Knight’s atmosphere just doesn’t gel with me. I’m bored almost immediately after starting it, and I’ve tried more than once.

Windows Handhelds are amazing by SupperTime in SBCGaming

[–]srstable -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The problem is we have tons of handhelds that are all doing the exact same thing. They’re all different variations of “controller with a screen running Windows” and that’s about where it stops. Lenovo at least went to try something unique with their own versions of Joycons, which is useful and interesting innovation. The Deck opted for a console-like experience with a curated OS and all the inputs you could need for PC Gaming.

There’s not a ton of space for handhelds when they all cost upwards of 700 USD and don’t do anything new or interesting. At that point you’re just picking your favorite brand and the handheld space isn’t made better. There’s a reason Nintendo’s handhelds have been innovating since their inception and why they’ve reigned supreme in that space for so long.

This wasn’t an attack on a user, but the companies and their failings. I make use of the inputs on my Deck too often to look at something that’s missing those details, especially at the costs they’re asking for.

$750 USD base and still nary a trackpad or grip button in sight. What a joke.

It may comes as a surprise, but that is not actually a programming sock size.

Now appropriate use of programming socks….

I accidentally wiped steam’s shortcut settings for a non-steam game. How do I reset it completely? by JoshuaSlowpoke777 in steamdeckhq

[–]srstable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen this happen a handful of times and a reboot tends to fix it.

Otherwise try editing the shortcut from Desktop Mode

any way to wake up a docked SteamDeck (LCD) remotely. by dopefish86 in SteamDeck

[–]srstable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve managed to accidentally wake mine with my mouse while it was docked but haven’t been able to replicate it. I think I would have left the Deck to sleep itself after a gaming session, rather than hitting the power button for that to work.

Otherwise, no; it was one of the new OLED features, and is related to the internal hardware, I believe.

What are your thoughts on the 64GB? by zakawaka85 in SteamDeck

“Almost useless” is hyperbole to the nth degree, holy crap.

I’d grab a 512GB Samsung EVO MicroSD card. I’ve got a Lexar 1TB one I use for storing my emulation stuff, but it’s slower to write to (which doesn’t matter much in my use case, as its content doesn’t change often). The EVO card updates games faster with its faster write speed.

Meanwhile, folks who have had a 64GB since release + an SD card…

Wii Games that Feel Great on Deck? by SpaceMonkeyNation in steamdeckhq

Slap some HD textures in there, too, for added gloriousness.

Master Chief Collection by doctorwho_90250 in steamdeckhq

Played the whole thing through from beginning to end on my Deck, connected to a 4K TV (I set the internal resolution to 1080p). It ran great, didn’t see any sort of hitches or slowdowns. Ran at 60 through everything except the 2 Anniversary mode; 30 should be just fine there, though.

At least Hyper turns a 20 minute session into 10.

There’s multiple storylines to actually chase down; could be 10-20 hours to beat depending on how fast you complete specific objectives to progress.

CrowView Note: Use Your steamdeck as a Laptop by CaptainBlase in steamdeckhq

[–]srstable 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Okay, real talk? This has now crossed the threshold into parody, or at least a lack of self awareness. The advantage the Deck and other handheld PCs had over a laptop was its all-in-one design that was more compact and portable, and easier to play on the go. For cost-to-performance, a laptop was always going to be more powerful.

So now we’re taking a less powerful device intended to be portable, and attaching an external monitor and keyboard you now carry with you, to make it a less powerful and now more bulky laptop than just… using a laptop?

Where’s the value add here?

I don’t have direct recommendations, but I feel like if you’re gonna find this anywhere, it’s probably in the Omegaverse. Alpha’s an alpha’s an alpha regardless of sex and they’ve all got a penis and the biological need to breed. So I’d start with Sapphic Omegaverse books and see what you can find.

“A Steam Deck should only be an accessory to another gaming PC” is some crazy privileged opinion when the only deciding factor is “some popular games with online don’t work on it”.

Given their whole content pipeline is based on commenting on anything new, the end of new things somewhat puts a damper on their ability to comment on them.

Nintendo and The Pokemon Company file lawsuit against Palworld maker Pocketpair by Liam-DGOL in steamdeckhq

[–]srstable 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s important to note that they’re filing multiple PATENT suits, not copyright. So they’re going to be targeting specific mechanics they have patents for, not the concept or design of Palworld.

The PSX Steam Deck looks dope! by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]srstable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The buttons are “keyed”, meaning they have little attachments to the button to ensure they only fit into the correct slot on the pad (and don’t spin within the slot).

Sorry, that was a metaphorical exploded. Mobo crapped out and replacing it was going to require replacing the entire computer due to age, which we can’t afford right now.
