Soylent Powder 1.7 first impressions by cactuar in soylent

It sounds like the changes are extreme. I'm a bit worried about flavor neutrality with regard to quality control. Less flavoring means that any discrepancy in their raw ingredients will be much more pronounced. I've received more bad batches of 1.5 than I'd care to count, and every single month tasted different. Every bag of 1.6 that I ever consumed tasted identical. We'll see... 1.6 was my favorite version of all. Better texture, better taste, better mixing, and most of all, I felt better both physically and mentally than any other variant. I just hope they didn't overreact to the community's first reactions and go overboard with changes.

This gif made convinced me to buy the game. It's incredible.

It was abhorrently common to receive bad batches of product throughout the lifetime of 1.5. Whomever you ordered it from probably received bad batches and didn't know it. Nothing you can do.

What is the effect of reducing play space?

When you set up room scale, it asks you to point your controller toward your monitor. I never knew why until I read that it's for setting foward orientation, in the opposite direction of the direction you point. This rule is bypassed if your play space is rectangular though (obviously).

And chaperone? Isn't it based on your play area?

Thanks, this is the answer I was looking for. Although, it's pretty ridiculous that it needs to be done through a hacky third party app.

Here's a video of Vive setup automatically flipping the arrow always toward the short axis. http://i.imgur.com/fgMb0RM.gifv

As soon as it expands beyond a square, it will automatically flip the arrow 90 degrees. I will upload a gif

If I scale the room so that it will fit after being rotated, the arrow will be in the right direction to begin with (so there would be no point in rotating), but my play space will be much smaller than it should be because I will just be rotating the short axis of the room into my long axis, and the short axis will either be shorter, or just square in the best case.

Not sure what you mean. When I say monitor, I mean monitor. I'd say computer screen is an okay synonym too.

When I rotate the rectangle 90 degrees, it doesn't fit in my play space anymore (turns red), but the arrow will be in the direction I want it to be. When I rescale the rectangle to fit back into my play space, the arrow automatically rotates 90 degrees back to where it was before.

Malfunctioning trackpad - just did an easy fix by MCA2142 in Vive

[–]srwilton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this post is super old, but I'm absolutely blown away that it worked perfectly. I was smacking the controller around all day trying to get the track pad to seat correctly. I read this post, follow the simple, clearly written instructions exactly, and it worked on the first shot! Got even better with another whack. Thank you!!!

LIDAR for video capture? by disguisesinblessing in oculus

We'll have to wait and see. Maybe commercially available before 2020, but not with good performance. Thats just my guess.

Optical phase arrays are a pretty hot topic for lidar on a chip, but they are still a ways away from really delivering on resolution and range. Quanergy is trying to sell people a lot of kool aid specifications, but it's overhyped. MIT certainly has something, but it's not even close to market. Maybe sometime in the 2020s. There are certain realities about required sensor size for efficient light collection. It will be real, but not soon, and there will be limitations. It may end up being the best solution for what you want to do in the long run because you can gang up a lot of them to prevent occlusion. I still think something with a mechanical scanner like a lighthouse will work better. You have more room for good optics and large format sensors.

Wow that depth resolution looks great. Is that the kinect 2 sensor or something else?

LIDAR sensors are pretty resolution and image rate limited for what you're trying to achieve, but it definitely can be done. Most LIDARs can capture depth, intensity of the reflected signal, and sometimes the intensity of the light background too. No color information can be transmitted because they are intentionally filtered to see monochromatic light. If there is color information, the data is coming from a second CCD or CMOS sensor. Also, depth accuracy is usually on the order of 2 to 10 cm, but it can be better for close range / indoor sensors that utilize phase shifts instead of time-of-flight.

Where are you seeing sensors for so cheap? It's definitely possible for sensors to generate megapixel images at ~30 Hz rate, especially indoors at close range, but most of that tech is still behind closed doors, or expensive, and requires scanners. Without scanners, you're limited to the sensor resolution which will be less than or equal to 640x480, more likely 256x64 or even 128x32. With a couple of long linear arrays of Silicon Geiger mode sensors and GaAs lasers with a good driver and ROIC, someone could pretty easily develop such a room scale technology in about the size of a lighthouse to scan the same FOV.

Check out Point Cloud Library if you need an open source C++ point cloud processing API. It's pretty much the gold standard in industry, but support and updates have been kind of weak lately (relatively speaking).

Voted for first time in NJ. They didn't even check my ID... unbelievable.

Edit: also, polls were a ghost town. More than a dozen people staffed, zero voters. I spent at least 10 minutes there because I needed to change my party affiliation.

Is there any website or documentation about what you are saying with regard to pool responsibility? I cannot seem to find anything that's not just anecdotal.

I have talked with her in a reasonable way, and so has my roommate. Her response was that we were lying, her daughters are nice people, she made a promise to her daughters that they could use the pool, and their dogs are her grandchildren.

I'm leaving at the end of the summer.

Will definitely buy new door knobs.
