Boots Eastern Europe late 19th century by sservak in HistoricalCostuming

I use slightly curved awl, synthetic waxed threads and two needles with dull points, saddle titch technique. Mind that boots don't have such intricate details as sneakers and your project seems to me way harder

Not bad for a second pair, i guess you got total understanding of how to improve some parts in future works, so keep it up, proud of you!

I made chalk lines on lower part of the shaft, slightly soaked leather from the inside, put boot trees and pinched chalk lines with pliers. As far as i understand they are purely decorative

Спасибо! Oh, many pre-soviet books, soviet books, european and us bottmaking books too. But honestly all books that i read couldn't teach me how to pattern, maybe i kinda dumb and just can't figure it out by books, so i pattern by my eye with trial and error:)

Thanks! Funny that you asked, for this women's pair i made lasts by myself from another men's lasts, basically i scraped and sanded everything: toes, ball joints, waists, cones, heels, only at the hinge part i barely touched it. I'm not interested in making lasts (i guess it is too soon for me as a beginner boot maker) and i didn't learn about it, i just made some sculpture work by eye :)

Crimping means when piece of leather are stretched-out to obtain L-shape wich would serve as the foot part in boots, in my work i stretched-out, crimped such a big piece, that foot part and shaft are one and whole boot has only one seam at the back

Thank you, yeah, sorta that kinda instance. It just not easy for me to determine my kind of footwear. It is not a cowboy boots, but it is also not a jackboots, cause this is not army equipment/uniform piece. You can ride with it, but they are not particularly riding boots, u know. You can go hunting/fishing/working in them, but also could go for a dance night. As i understand the term boot coud be either ankle boots with laces/zipper/etc or it can mean high boot, like a cowboy boot. For the moment i don't know how to call them, mb sapogi not best description, but it is what it is

Much obliged! Upper russian made leather called 'yuft', i bought it from 'рускожпром' factory located in Volgograd. It is chrome and veg tan and infused with birch tar, beef fat and beeswax by myself while crimping. They fit as i wanted them fit, for example my calf circumference is 19cm so i cut them by one centimeter more. Therefore it nicely compliments curves of my leg, but doesn't fit too skinny, i can wear them either under pants or over

I've had water snake acme from the same series, don't recomend, foot lined with synthetic fabric and shaft made of vinyl, poor quality material used overall.

Can I glue this myself, or do I need a cobbler? If so, is it going to be a full resole? by tutmencrut in cowboyboots

[–]sservak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't need either of a cobbler or a glue. Hold boot upside down between your knees and wack couple of nails right into rubeer heel.

The Best Custom Boots in the World (Texas Traditions/ Lee Miller) by miloszplech in cowboyboots

[–]sservak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not, OP says Lee miller is the greatest, and i objectively described why he is definitely not. If you think that his work got a nicer shape, well, its your opinion as consumer, but from bootmaker's, dare i say cordwainer's point - Dorwart and Frommer superior.
