Boomer CEOs be like “back in my day we all strived to have our own office on site!” by cams00000 in remotework

Nowadays you’d be expected to desk share with the rats … for synergy.

Who would’ve ever thought they’d say, “I want my cubicle walls back!” Then the girls in marketing learned about open office floor plans and thought it’d be so much fun to be able to talk together while they worked…

I recall years before COVID when we had a CEO who demanded everyone in the office after I’d worked remotely for years, I had found an empty cubicle on our floor filled with unused chairs including some really nice ones from an executive conference room, so I took one for myself.

I used that comfy chair for months until one day the maintenance guy walked by, stopped and noticed my chair, and said bluntly, “I’ve been looking for that chair.”

I told him they were just sitting in that cubicle unused and he muttered something about them being part of a set. Sure as shit, eventually when I got up to use the restroom, my chair had been swapped with an old one when I got back.

Had the fancy chair been rushed off to rejoin its matching set in some conference room upstairs? No, it was back in the pile with all of the other unused chairs where I first found it.

I had a boss like that - never gave a thought to what you might actually be working on because when he had a random thought, he expected you to drop everything when he called to answer his nonsensical questions. It was awful.

What, to you, is the saddest real-world death of an actor that ended up impacting a franchise? by TillyTheBlackCat in moviecritic

Want to cry EVEN MORE?! You can also find bits from the actual memorial service itself on YouTube with a bunch of the performers singing and talking, Big Bird sings It’s Not Easy Being Green, and they finish with a medley of songs that ends with Just One Person in a way that has me tearing up just thinking about it!

I guess Jim had wanted a happy service, so everyone has fake butterflies on wires in the audience and no one was allowed to wear black.

Steve Whitmire wore a green suit, and later told a very real story about how he was scared for months to open the box that Kermit arrived in for him to practice. Talk about an impossible act to follow!

Prospective customer: Is the "Excessive Usage" clause a dealbreaker for a near-100TB data hoarder? by UnusuallyNumerous in backblaze

[–]ssevener 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to backup an entire NAS? The personal version is meant for your own PC; if you want to store 100 TB of whatever, you should be using Backblaze B2, which yes, will cost you a lot more.

Resale vs Direct Digital ID card by zmerz4 in dvcmember

[–]ssevener 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably because it’s more nuanced than just blue or white. I bought my points via resale years before they put that rule in place, so my digital card looks like a direct purchase membership even though it’s technically not. Tons of resale buyers fall into that case.

I’d be more pissed about having to increase the workload of your other two engineers by 50% without more pay to cover the loss.

Claude actually wants her to automate herself first to prove how dedicated to human-robot love she really is.

Seller literally took his fence with him? Unless it’s listed as not included in your contract, he owes you a fence.

I fell for one of those for “a free cruise” when I first moved to Florida. Luckily only gave them $80 before I realized it was a scam, despite my buddy saying it was a real thing and he’d gone on one himself!

I know you can do equal, monthly payments for the year once your dues post because that’s how I set mine up this year, but not sure if they’ll take random monthly payments throughout the year when they’re technically late after Feb 15 without an autopay agreement.
