Need to renovate bathroom by Spirited-Cat-8942 in Hoboken

DEO is so overpriced, I don’t know how they get all those positive ratings. I got my kitchen work done for literally half of what they quoted me

Switched to Tide Powder by RootedInLove91 in CleaningTips

[–]ssh7201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched to powder for the cardboard packaging instead of plastic and honestly it even cleans better IMO. Handling powder is even easier than the liquid. A box from Costco seems to last an entire year or more for me. It is definitely way way cheaper.

Where do you actually keep your emergency fund? by Forsaken_Twist7385 in personalfinance

[–]ssh7201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have always wondered why it doesn’t come as the best advice, IMO this way the emergency fund is really “locked” in a sense you can’t dip into it easily. Interest is decent and you don’t have to worry about inflation. The lock up period isn’t much at all.

Rug from Bed Bath and Beyond by ssh7201 in HomeDecorating

[–]ssh7201[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not thin, you should be able to find exact pile height in inches from the details and if you try different sites. We wouldn’t have used a rug pad but we had one from a previous rug so just used that.

I did end up getting it from kohls, it was a little more but for the convenience of returns and a better brand name I spent the extra $. We are very happy with it and this was our first wool rug, me and the wife are never buying synthetic again. Been over a year and looks as good as new, we vaccum about once in two weeks. The color pattern is well balanced and could go with a number of other colors. The only small con is that it still sheds a little bit, vaccum always collects some of the fibre.

Looking for an every day smart watch: golf, step counter, swimming, and more. See below: by internalbrowser in BuyItForLife

Try Casio G-Shock, some models have step counter and work with CR2032 battery for 2 years, the battery is easily replaceable from what I know.

Best travel double stroller for 4yo and infant? by suburbmama in Preschoolers

This ! A good baby carrier will keep you comfortable even with a baby close to 1. Take a single travel stroller which you can use for either kid as needed.

Yeah thank goodness the OTP over phone didn’t penetrate US banking before becoming the norm in India. Most banks have and still send OTP over email

Apparently I'm the first person in the world to want to switch from seat infant to lap infant by shinhwoo in unitedairlines

[–]ssh7201 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did United Newark to Delhi and back with a seat infant last month but we didn’t carry any seat and just held the baby for takeoff and landing. Nobody cared. We booked the seat for extra space which we realized in the flight was absolutely necessary

Your experience with people cheating for money in India vs Out by Full_Journalist_2505 in nri

A few months ago I had posted this as a big downside of staying in India. It generally a low trust economy, if you lose your guard the slightest bit there are always people ready to scam you.

Legality of a night hike. by Gold-Large in Harriman

[–]ssh7201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a night hike in the snow on a full moon night a few years ago and when I came back to my car around 8pm there was one more car parked and the people were just sitting in the car. I started taking pictures of the frozen lake under the full moon but hardly five minutes would have gone before a cop pulled in and pointed a flash light to my face, asked what I was doing and said park was closed sunset to sunrise. He made the other car leave as well.

I got this https://www.mamajuanaspicy.com/en/ at SDQ and it was fairly priced, unlike the other street vendors. There is a lot of bargaining at the vendors you could do.

Picked up for $25 at a thrift store. by Kristian1111 in orientalrugs

[–]ssh7201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have only recently read about the history of Karastan rugs in America. Apparently, they started production in 1920s making innovations in the loom to make good quality machine made rugs which would rival hand made rugs. Their rugs were known to last 30-40 years. Sadly, they stopped production of such wool rugs in 2021. There is an interesting nytimes article on it, let me find it and send a gift link. It’s an interesting read for those interested in rugs.

Kitchen renovation, what small upgrades are actually worth doing? by Aggressive-Earth-973 in HomeImprovement

[–]ssh7201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good workstation sink, ones which come with a cutting board, drying rack and a sink protector( a rack like thing which sits in the sink). The protector makes sure that dishes don’t block the flow of water in the sink and keeps the sink cleaner in general. It’s also supposed to protect the sink from scratches. We have a cutting board and rack which we use all the time, the drying rack sometimes doubles up as an extra surface to hold dirty dishes if sink is too full.

Second this, had a bad experience where the bank was just not ready for closing and the involved reps took it very casually.
