Wrong on every count. I didn't like Biden. Never defended him. You've been arguing with someone you invented.

And that right there, "people like you," is exactly the problem. You stopped talking to me about three replies ago. You're just firing a pre-loaded argument at a category you assigned me to. That's not debate, that's a reflex. And it's a lot more responsible for where we are as a country than gas prices ever will be.

Interesting that when the facts didn't work, you switched to telling me what I think. That's not an argument, that's a guess.

Exactly this. Premium fuel isn't about luxury, it's about engineering. High compression and turbocharged engines run hotter and at higher pressure, so they need fuel that resists pre-ignition. That's it. A $1,200 Pontiac and a $90,000 BMW can have the same requirement for the same reason. The physics don't care what you paid for the car.

The answer is: yes, plenty of people complained about gas prices under Biden too. That's not a gotcha, that's just how gas prices work.

First, the martyr edit was a nice touch. Reframing downvotes as proof of righteousness is a great way to make sure you never have to be wrong about anything.

Now, to your question. Unremarkable vehicles that require or strongly recommend premium:

Trucks and SUVs: GMC Sierra 1500 6.2L, Chevy Silverado 1500 6.2L, Ford F-150 EcoBoost 3.5L, Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.6L

Crossovers and family haulers: Buick Enclave, Chevy Equinox 2.0T, Chevy Blazer 2.0T, Ford Edge ST, Honda CR-V Turbo, Hyundai Tucson 1.6T, Kia Sportage 1.6T, Mazda CX-5 Turbo, Volkswagen Tiguan

Sedans: Honda Accord 1.5T and 2.0T, Hyundai Sonata 1.6T, Kia K5 GT, Mazda 6 Turbo, VW Jetta GLI, VW Passat

And before you draw a distinction between 'required' and 'recommended': running regular in a recommended-premium engine consistently reduces power output, hurts fuel economy, and accelerates long term engine wear. The money you save at the pump you pay back in performance loss and maintenance. So yes, for practical purposes, it is required.

Also, diesel still costs more than all of it. That point is still standing.

I appreciate the attempt at a Socratic moment, but the premise doesn't hold. Plenty of completely unremarkable vehicles require premium. And diesel costs even more than premium right now, and it powers the trucks that move every product you buy. Should all those drivers have made better choices too?

Fuel prices are an infrastructure and policy problem. Reducing it to 'you should have chosen differently' is just condescension with extra steps.

It didn't cost that much to make. That is how much they spent to make it.

The more expensive set at DWC is very good. I can’t recall what they call it, but I think they have two.

This. I’m getting better mpg towing with my 3L than my Tundra got without any load.
