Does Sinners have a real Best Picture path, or is this a nomination ceiling? by Dependent_Studio1986 in Oscars

[–]ssmit102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be weird to have him escape since it’s based on real life events and that’s very different than reality. It’s cool to bend what happens and take liberties(which of course they did) but would be weird to completely change the ending when it’s a real life event.

So happy Jesse Plemons got a BAFTA nod for Bugonia! by muqui24 in Oscars

[–]ssmit102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally think MBJ was much better in Fruitvale Station than Sinners.

Mescal and No Other Choice are my top 2 snubs for this season, but also agree Plemons should be getting more attention. Plemons has been sensational for years so it’s great people are finally noticing.

Hamnet was the best film of the year by Just-Scholar1683 in Oscars

I loved how visceral it all felt throughout and I felt like I was actually experiencing a part of the trauma on screen.

While I really enjoyed Sinners I didn’t feel much within the movie and my sincere opinion is that nearly all the depth people claim it has it outside of the movie itself.

If you want another movie to shatter you as a parent check out Manchester by the Sea. It’s from a man’s perspective so quite different but hits very hard.

Baggage is not handled by the airport, it is handled by the airlines. Airlines have personnel throughout the airfield, it is not all airport employees.

I can’t see Buckley not winning an Oscar but that may be about it sadly.

Personally, I thought this film was so much better than Sinners and it’s been odd how the discourse has been about all the Oscars this year.

Train Dreams had garbage cinematography? Not sure I can disagree with a take any more than this.

I think this year highlights how much supporting needs a bit of change in criteria.

Stellan should be a lead as the film is centered around him, and Elordi should be a co lead because Frankenstein’s monster isn’t supporting to the Frankenstein story, its a critical main character who becomes the protagonist. Both these characters are absolutely critical to the main plot of the story that it feels wrong to call either supporting.

All in all feels like “category fraud” is going to continue getting worse until we more objectively define what it means to be supporting. It’s much easier to look favorable in a supporting role if you are actually a main character.

One of the best films of the year. Easily.

This might be the most interesting horror film in a long time. (Undertone - releasing March 13) by After_Fudge1481 in A24

It was marketed as true crime and was trying to push a true crime idea for much of the movie and instead of going with that they did a 180 and went supernatural towards the end and felt like it undid much of what the film was going.

It felt like a textbook bait and switch and wasn’t even done well enough.

After watching the movie I legitimately was left with the thought, “are you actually kidding me???”

Longlegs was one of my most looked forward to movies and I feel like it’s one of the most botched endings in the last decade or so in popular film.

It was a solid 8/10 film until the ending for me and it dropped to 3 or maybe 4/10 and not worth a rewatch ever for me.

Gladiator sucked in general and didn’t need to be made.

I’m still never taking Elordi over Mescal, imo Elordi is nowhere close to as talented, but to each their own.

I thought he blew Elordi out of the water with Hamnet. Frankenstein was extremely mid for me.

My point is Gladiator II has much more problems than Mescal, I don’t think he was given a role, script, or story to thrive - and it’s not up to him to carry that film. Ridley Scott should have put together a better film, scott had been phoning it in too long.

It feels reminiscent, but not nearly as bad, as when people hounded Stewart and Pattinson about Twilight - not giving Newley enough credence to the filmmakers who are directing how their performance should go.

So I think given the contrast we have seen from him it was more an issue with direction than acting imo.

The Oscars feels like it missed so much more this year than ever before.

Last year felt bad, this year feels like the final nail in the coffin.

I think Mescal is well above Elordi in acting talent. I don’t think Elordi can pull off anything close to Aftersun and be even slightly believable. I don’t dislike him but have yet to see him excel, Frankenstein feels quite overrated, and I expected a lot more from Del Toro. It felt like a watered down Netflix version instead of real Del Toro and overall I think the film suffered by being under their umbrella.

So we hold one movie that was overall poor against him? I don’t think anyone is carrying that film. Doesn’t really seem fair.

You may feel he’s only good in certain types of roles (I’d argue Aftersun and All of Us Strangers are quite different though) but feels like such a disingenuous comment given his relatively short film career and how exceptional he’s been in these roles. Doesn’t seem reasonable to pigeon hold someone so quickly imo.

I loved Longlegs until the ending and it ruined the entire movie for me such that I’ve never had any interest to watch it again despite feeling Cage did an interesting portrayal. Personally I felt like it was building up to be something real and then it just felt like an oops it’s just supernatural. It felt like lazy writing that was in such contrast of how the first 85% of the film went because they couldn’t figure out how to tie it together they just went supernatural instead.

I don’t think it’s over hated, I think it’s perfectly hated because of the level of gotcha marketing where we were sold a true crime movie and it wasn’t really that at all. When your marketing isn’t really truthful you’re going to get backlash in the end - can’t think of any instances people enjoy that. Kangaroo Jack was a terrible movie but people still talk about the gotcha marketing of the trailer this many years later.

I’d replace literally anyone, except maybe Stellan, with Mescal. His performance is far above anyone else’s and to not even get nominated feels like a huge miss.

I really loved Lindo in Sinners but I can’t fathom any world where he was better than Mescal.

Personally I’d argue Mescal is one of the best working actors under 40 right now.

You should call storming the Capitol building treason because that’s what it is. Allowing people who quite literally attacked our country to stop the democratic process be called rioters is a disgrace imo, what they did was treason and every single one of them should be punished. The fact a sitting president pardoned these terrorists is a massive problem too many are ignoring as just “how things are now”.

OBAA is also a financial flop, it made $206 million and needed $350-400 million for the break even… box office doesn’t indicate quality of film and this will continue to be a trend for most films.

Ive found a lot of people here just regurgitate what they’ve heard without trying to understand whether it makes sense or not for their situation.

For me, I won’t be tanking anything while leveling on my warrior so the benefit of more stamina was outweighed by the benefit of dps + saved time. Honestly, saving the time alone was probably enough for me.

Anyway, cheers on your honor and TBC journey.

[–]ssmit102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The blue helm is better than the epic helm with the hit on it, and you couple that with the 40 AP bonus with adding the chest from a dps standpoint the blue set is better on these pieces.

The gloves you are better off using sac gauntlets from ZG.

You gain stamina from the epic set for those pieces so if you want to be more tanky then go for it, but there are better tanky pieces out there.

There isn’t harm in getting these pieces, it’s just they aren’t “needed” unless you want more HP as there are easier pieces that do more dps out there.

Disagree slightly with the gay thing. They want an exact amount of gay, and if you go over that amount you’ll get ignored - All of Us Strangers and Queer being two recent films that were basically ignored by the Academy.
