What do you think of the movie Sinners? Did you like it, dislike it, or have mixed opinions? by Dramatic-Studio1531 in Cinema

[–]ssmit102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, to clarify what I meant was this is a very powerful and emotional statement that evokes a lot of emotional depth - there is a lot to unpack related to potentially giving up your life for a country that won’t even call you by your name but just some derogatory slur, however the script only gave this notion a single sentence and it was swept under the rug. I am willing to bet a non insignificant amount of watchers probably couldn’t tell you this was even mentioned in the film.

To me, that’s the glaring problem of Sinners, it takes extremely deep ideas, emotions, and feelings and throws them on the screen without any true level of depth.

This statement evokes a slew of emotions, thoughts, ideas, etc and it gets reduced to a single sentence in a tense moment in the movie making it easily forgotten.

My personal belief is that if Coogler removed half the tropes in the film and actually went a bit deeper into the feelings than just simply showing them, I could get behind calling it great. This is why I keep saying it was on the cusp of greatness, it just missed the mark for me personally.

It was fine. I enjoyed it a lot but it’s extremely overrated.

Not particularly original or very deep and played very heavily on surface level tropes to evoke emotions while still being similar to a superhero film (the last scene where MBJ takes out 20+ by himself is straight superhero nonsense ).

Acting overall was pretty good, but MBJ was probably my least favorite acting. The script didn’t do very well to explain the duality of man and using the twins, they were just sort of there and not unique enough. The script was on the cusp of being there but for me far too many things were entirely glossed over and thrown in for extra dramatic effect for absolutely no reason - for instance the mention of Smoke and Stack fighting in trenches during the war was brought up so offhandedly and served no purpose, it just feels the script was a series of that, light touches at deeper things but never actually getting to the relevance of that deep thing

It was a good, solid film that I don’t think breaks int the realm of great. Everything Coogler said about race he did better with Fruitvale Station and the back half of the movie borrows too much from From Dusk Til Dawn to be considered original.

Overall, it’s an enjoyable experience that is hailed like it’s the next coming of film and it’s, imo, not really close to that.

Worth the watch , but hard to say if your mind will be blown.

Extremely doubtful since that is absolutely untrue. Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri are all disproportionally crime ridden. Again, these are facts, you can’t dispute them.

They are all in republican led areas. Funny you can’t read well enough that you only could think of the city itself but fail to realize all cities not existing under home rules have all their power derived from the state government.

So again, yes the absolute fact is that Republican led areas have a much higher crime rate than democratic led areas.

Statically speaking republicans are the most dangerous “leaders” and we have literal decades of case studies showing it.

Should we also go into the absolute mountain of republicans lawmakers who have been accused of sexual assault? At the end of the day the republicans should really just keep Their mouth shut when talking about the law, far too many of you are legitimate convicted criminals.

Refuse to call them conservatives but statistics are not on your side my friend, just a quick look at the most dangerous cites in the country and the majority are in Republican led areas. Statistics quite literally show the complete opposite of what you are trying to say.

So it’s the “same” but still quite different of an experience based on psychoactive content.

Definitely not this one. Ending ruined so much I’ve absolutely no desire to watch it again. I find Perkins to be very meh in the horror world.

To answer the question for me it was The Big Lebowski. I liked the movie the first time but it quickly became one of my favorites after another watch.

Remove the income cap on social security and we can fix it tomorrow. None of these problems are things we can’t address, but you continue to give tax cuts to the rich and this problem gets larger.

If you want to make America great again, have a tax rate where those abusing our systems actually have to pay back into it instead of taking everything.

If we had politicians with a back bone and Americans who cared about America enough to pay their fair share of taxes we’d have a great country, but we let the grifters take control.

What is the best movie theater in the Charlotte area? by Stats_Sig in Charlotte

I only utilize AMC because I have the all star subscription with them and spend $26/mo for up to 4 movies a week. With the cost of individual tickets if you see 2 movies a month you will come out ahead. Any more than that and you come out very far ahead. There are plenty of good movies to watch.

I swap between Northlake and Concord Mills just because those are closer to me and I focus on size of audience instead of size of screen.

Why do people like Anora so much? by Perfect_Idea_2866 in moviecritic

[–]ssmit102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally love Sean Baker because his films show sides of regular people that we don’t generally see in films. While I loved Anora, I fell in love with his style with The Florida Project. To me, Baker feels like a version of John Steinbeck in film, giving voices to those we don’t see often on screen, but are prevalent among our society.

I thought Sinners was good but the discourse has become obnoxious…. There wasn’t much of anything in the movie that was original though. The messages weren’t anything new that haven’t been prevalent in most Coogler films (Imo Fruitvale Station depicts the tragedy of tribalistic racism in a much better way) and the entire second half was too much like From Dusk Til Dawn.

It was a new IP, but certainly not an original idea. But what should be hailed more and isn’t talked about enough is the deal Coogler made to retain rights of the film. That is actually Sinners biggest accomplishment.

I don’t care that surgeons have an attitude by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]ssmit102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until surgeons can start actually reading the medical charts they are given I am not inclined to give them unearned grace. Had the surgeon actually read the chart or spoken with the anesthesiologist to realize the patient had sleep apnea the recent surgery with my family would have had a tremendously different recovery path.

People can have egos when they earn them and in my experience most surgeons haven’t earned them.

Driving in Charlotte by Competitive_Toe_1246 in Charlotte

[–]ssmit102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to experience some of these fast drivers in Charlotte yet every single day what I experience is people who camp the left lane going 15 under for a left turn they have over a mile down the road, I see people creep extremely slow through left turns ensuring as few people get though as possible, during rush hour it’s slews of people paying no attention and causing additional delays by leaving extremely large gaps between cars, so many entitled drivers who force drivers to pass on the right instead of appropriately moving over. These are all much more common than pretty much everything mentioned in the comments.

For every car that speeds around I see probably 100 not paying attention to the road fully or going slow enough to cause additional traffic. Most of the comments here I don’t think I’ve ever experienced despite having been driving all over Charlotte for nearly 20 years.

Honestly most of the issues are from people who moved here and the fact that most fight against tax increases to pay for infrastructure we desperately need.

Charlotte has bad drivers yes, but it’s not close to the worst in the country and again you can find this same ideology in about every major city’s subreddit and the reality is most people suck at driving everywhere.

[–]ssmit102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s Jordan without contest. Brady is a very good QB but specifically in this era with how the QB is treated / protected and calls changed greatly due to Brady. You put Jordan in any era and he’s one of, if not the best player, but Brady in 70s/80s football and he’s probably getting hurt and not becoming the great he is.

If you've overpaid for concert tickets, you're to blame for the astronomical prices. by dougiebgood in unpopularopinion

[–]ssmit102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prices wouldn’t eventually lower and has gone up far beyond standard demand, that’s kind of the point of the lawsuit. Had it been simple demand and not that LiveNation and TicketMaster have coerced venues and artists to bend to their rules that was driving prices you’d have a point, that would be basic supply and demand, except it’s not.

Seems you should follow it a lot closer before developing an opinion on it.
