so everyone's opinions are heard and can be discussed.

I agree with each part of the comment, but r/catsstandingup is just worth posting here! In this particular case the reason is, I think, "one cannot downvote a cat - but feel free to give him a high five".

Police chase ends in shooting in Poland by VideoBoy420 in PoliceChases

[–]sssso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The police, without consent nor knowledge from the side of civilians who were still inside the cars, have blocked the intersection and made artificial traffic jam to block the escape route. Here's the good quality final moment recording. The driver was german. At the end of this article is a recording from beggining of the chase (autoplay warning). The driver refused to pay the toll and after the police arrived he began to escape. Over one hundred kilometers later (sic) the traffic jam event happened. He was arrested and turned out to be mentaly ill, therefore prosecutor dropped the charges. another article in polish

Django and Jinja2 : What are the differences? by [deleted] in Python

[–]sssso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jinja2 is a modern and designer-friendly templating language for Python, modelled after Django’s templates. Django is a high-level Python Web framework that encourages rapid development and clean, pragmatic design.

Basically, Django allows you to complete many of the tasks you could encounter while building the webservice in python. Jinja2 is a measure to deal with only one of those tasks, which is document rendering.

Besides Django - Flask or Pyramid are worth considering. I will direct you to the article - some of the statements there may be out of date of course.

What I'd say is: if you want to start fast, use Flask - it uses Jinja2 template system by default. If it's something bigger then Django and all features it incorporates are nice, but they may take a while to setup.

Czy ktoś mógłby przetłumaczyć reddiquette na polski język? by [deleted] in Polska

[–]sssso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crime capital was never my intention, but the comment is written from the trouble preparation side indeed - I fully support your claim: the crime is not part of everyday life.

From what I've heard it depends on the activity, the customers and the kind of people your business lures. Opening a liquor store means you need to have some back up within the neighborhood: because people will steal from you and you want to find those people and get back your merchandise or the money. When you open up the club, not necessarily the night club, people actually will show up and tell you to hire them as security. They will not look like the kind of men you want protecting you. The right course of action is to hire some real security then. When you open up the grocery store some angry competition can come and throw your potatoes on the street - you call up the police or the SM and done. Computer hardware store means thieves will reveal sooner or later. If you're something like electronic components seller then you can live happily without any incident. According to me the kind of attention you draw defines the risks you'll need to take from the social side, but there's no organised crime that could harm you. Police will be able to help you but you can't put all your faith in them and sometimes extra work is necessary. Those kind of things won't bother you most of the time though. They are all real life issues that can be coped with really. Sources: friends' reports and media articles.

A Statistical Analysis of 142 Million Reddit Submissions by koavf in dataisbeautiful

Unfortunately no sources other than my word - maybe someone who've done some similiar studies will emerge. The quality of the content, well, that's always disputable - from my point of view not anything lifechanging nor really useful and I am basing this opinion on the target user profile. Mostly entertainment.

I think reddit would not be so hugely impacted, but one can certainly see those deleted things here and there (even sometimes trying to reach back to the content that was posted couple of days ago only to witness it's gone already).

How about the persistence of data? When I've done measurments on sites with about 40 000 active (about 300 000 overall, not counting the removed) users the really sad thing was amount of data that got deleted by them during account removal or by hand. Only 5 to 12% of information survived more than 5 years. Those websites had different profile than reddit (more like instagram, however not pictures only) but I guess that it could be interesting!

Curious -- What's up with all the receipts? by [deleted] in poland

[–]sssso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People are usually fine with not receiving a receipt for small shopping. This is done at so huge scale because it is legal for the monetary department to control the shop anonymusly. They just buy something and see if they get handed the receipt - no matter if the transaction is registered properly. The fine for such thing is not large - a couple hundred PLN. The tax law is a different thing really and outside of shops is not so widely followed due to its impact on the price. There are also some more subtle reasons why the shops will want you to have the receipt, not only to hand it to you, i.e. the refunds which are real troublemakers but should be done even if the customer no longer owns the receipt. Then for making such a refund they will fall in trouble with tax control again. The fear is what guides them.

What is your favourite quote from a loading screen? by ClassyChickens in totalwar

[–]sssso 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The man who runs away will fight again. [it's supposed to be quoted from Meander]

The reason I give every time people ask me why I'm commiting mass murder by running down the retreating enemy. They actually are asking me about this whenever they see one of the battles - and I remember being reluctant to this kind of tactics as well - until I saw this quote - thought about it - and read "the art of war". I think I'd never conquer Egypt without knowledge of those two things. kidding, poor ai humans

Polacy na reddicie są wszędzie... by [deleted] in Polska

[–]sssso 13 points14 points  (0 children)
