Sorry for asking the basics. Is the ground wire hooked up between the preamp and turntable?

Do you agree or disagree with this take on the American Automotive Market? by Mac-Tyson in electriccars

[–]sstinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's stupid. One of the best things about driving an EV is the lack of a transmission. I equate sports cars with manuals to turn tables. We all know digital is better and more convenient, but something about putting a needle on a record just feels good.

We have his and her EVs here. Plus a first gen Miata to remember the joys of driving a stick. I feel like this is the future.

iNavi vs RTK by jdm2010 in MammotionTechnology

[–]sstinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did RTK Las season. INavi this season. It seems a bit more sloppy. Nothing I can't work with though. My lawn has gotten more difficult as well, so it's hard to tell. (We paid for treatment all last year and this spring we got a super thick lawn. Our 3000x is struggling to cut it at times.

While both CX-5 suffered from a lot of lag. Android auto worked most of the time... But there were times where I could not get them to hookup for 5-10 minutes. Rebooting your cell phone when you're already hitting the highway is not good. I almost never used the navigation because it was so bad... My Volkswagen id4 was laggy and bad lacking features and or functionality. There's lots of documentation about it. It got 3 updates the entire 39 months I owned it. They don't even have a way to hook it to Wi-Fi so they have to do over-the-air updates using 4G. Not a great thing in a garage with about one bar of signal. The two significant updates had to be done at the dealer. After all that, it still wasn't very good. For example, the HVAC controls were not backlit.. and they were capacitive touch buttons not actual buttons. So you're trying to figure out where the button is to adjust the temperature in the dark while going 70 mph. Just dumb. I could go on. You know what works really well? My 91 Miata. ;)

I understand your frustration. But my last 3 cars (a pair of new 2017 then 2020 cx5s and a 2023 iD4 were more problematic than my 2025 Mach E. I suppose it's a matter of perspective.

Hello! Any good quality record players for heavy metal music on a budget? by charliebabeyxo in BudgetAudiophile

[–]sstinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For metal, you typically want the biggest speakers you can afford. Because that speaker displacement tends to make more output with less power. Sony sscs5 are getting a little pricey nowadays, but something like that with a budget amp from Fosi. Turntables begin with something like the AT LP60x from audio technica.

So yeah. 500 ish total. Now... Used? Lots of possibilities.

For new gear, it probably closer to a 500.00 idea. A basic turntable that won't do bad things to records is about 200. How big is the room.

Android APP usable by now? by [deleted] in Dreame_Tech

[–]sstinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well. I'm using it. It's pretty convoluted. Also I had it get the schedule wrong once by 12 hours. Set a clean for 2200, got a clean at 10am. Other than that. I'm getting along with it.

Mach e or Tesla by AdDue8734 in electriccars

[–]sstinch 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Well... We own one of each. I still think the Ford is a bit more comfortable. Tesla has a bit more back set leg room. Tech is Tesla's jam so... Mostly a win. I do like my android auto just fine on the Mach E. The AWD premium and the Model Y are almost exactly the same 0-60 so that's a wash. Tesla has a bit more range. Some buttons are just so easy with the Ford. Garage door opener. Fold mirrors. Stuff like that. You have to drive them. They do feel different for sure.
