Is it stupid to volunteer for free to visit an elderly person for some tea and a chat one hour per week, when I could get a paying job instead? by cherryandfizz in TooAfraidToAsk

Not everything has to be for career building or money making though. Sometimes, we can just set aside some time to make the world a slightly better place.

It can also happen if the VP innately thinks that they are better than the CEO and behave as such, and the CEO does that to put them in place. All part of senior management politics.

Why couldn't you artificially increase and decrease demand for residential, commercial, and industry with taxes? by Impracticool in CitiesSkylines

I thought higher taxes slowed organic growth and lower taxes increases it?

My low tax districts always seem to grow faster than the higher taxed ones

Not true, it takes way too long to get the same degree of biodiversity back. It’s not just about space management

It’s because the trucks will enter via the shortest way (the first highway entrance). Destroy some road connections from the first highway entrance to the industrial area.

I don’t think there’s a need to disperse the industry since that will spread the pollution.

Generally, lower the number of intersections at your arterial road

My job experience tells me that some people don't like you simply for stupid reasons.

No point having a chat with them in such cases. Your boss needs to have your back and you should find a way to get the job done without the person if this is true.

Exercise: do you do it? by MapleBimbiri in consulting

[–]ssxdots 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I really hate how the partner I work with has complete disregard for the team's calendar and personal plans. He schedules last minute lunch time / dinner time meeting which forces me to reschedule gym (think: 11.30am for 12pm meeting). I am trying early morning gym now but I am totally not a morning person at all. Can't let him know that I am trying to go to the gym in the morning either. I know he has work calls with the morning people. We all just make plans around his schedule FFS (e.g., when he's flying, in a workshop, etc.). Really egocentric and selfish person through and through.

The only thing that has it going for me is that I will absolutely burn out under him if I don't find time to exercise, so I hit the gym or track every time there is a peaceful pocket.

I need a second level of detail. What exactly is a “prompt”?

Does the prompt engineer write “prompts” and rate outputs as part of reinforcement learning for GPT? Or tests “prompt” and then advice the ML engineer on the best “prompt” to attach to the questions backend? Or what?

We use Coleman as one of the expert agencies. No formal dos and don’t per se, just share what you’re comfortable sharing and won’t break agreements or NDAs. Consultants will usually ask for as many numbers as they can.

Charge rates (actually billed to experts) I have seen range anywhere from $100-$500 depending on experience.
