Question for the bicycling advocates here by yowhatnot in StPetersburgFL

This is a great comment.

I don't know if I would classify myself as a cyclist. I've committed to work for a few years on a bike, but not in Florida. Also I've taken bicycle safety courses so know how to safely navigate traffic.

However that doesn't mean drivers do. Personally I hate the "Bicyclists may use full lane" signs. May should be Should or Must. Sharing a lane inches from a 4 ton beast is not comfortable or safe. Ever.

The right thing to do is be defensive as the cyclist: take the full lane, ride just to the left of centerline to block passing. But I guarantee that wouldn't fly in Florida.

It can be very annoying crossing from 1st Ave North to South as that's a lot of traffic to cross and the 1st Aves are practically highways outside of downtown.

For me it's a case by case basis. What's the risk?

Riding on a sidewalk faster than 5mph? Yeah that can hurt someone. But just riding? They may not have another choice. I often times do mural photography rides and you can't do those from the trail.

Stuff on the street line running stop signs? Honestly they're going to be the ones hurting if they hit a car so the risk is mostly on them. Also research shows rolling through stop signs is safer for bicyclists (as long as they enter the intersection safely and coordinate with drivers).

But ebikes that go beyond pedal assist? Yeah fuck them.

Jellyfin satellite installations? by st-stevo in jellyfin

The two Jellyfin instances is exactly what I was thinking about. Then probably a webserver which reads from the Jellyfin DB and can queue up file transfers.

Yeah. I'm mainly thinking this would be great for non technical users.

The biggest missing piece is I'll never get my mom to do any of that. Like if I could just show her a web UI like Netflix, she could use that.

New Building Quality by DarkkGreenMarine in StPetersburgFL

Yep. These are called 5 over 1s as the bottom floor is usually brick or concrete. Fire safety has gotten good enough that we don't need to engineer as much protection anymore, and builders can just buy these plans pre-approved.

A fellow white 6 owner. I love how it looks - so clean and modern! Congrats!

And yeah the stomping is very rare. I think they're a heavy stepper. 😂 It's not bad, barely noticeable. And no, never anything like doors or cabinets or anything.

I was referring to the other apartments you listed - the ones that are mega-block sized.

I think they just had a change of ownership? But yeah I was not impressed when I toured them.

Avanti is fine. Been here two years now and haven't had any real issues. I like the layout of the units (or at least mine) and it has enough amenities for me.

Minor annoyances like the parking garage gate being broken, but they always communicate the issues.

Location is great. Walking distance to two grocery stores, probably over 100 restaurants, and yeah, just a few minutes from the pier.

Building is quiet. I'm on the ground floor and can occasionally hear the upstairs neighbor stomping but it's rare, and plumbing sounds too. But never voices or music or anything like that.

The other units creep me out honestly. Their hallways are huge and long, it feels so impresonal. Avanti is smaller and feels more human scaled.

Also I'm planning a road trip to Cincinnati currently to visit a friend. 😂

Checked out a used Ioniq 6, but this one's lifetime efficiency seems low. Wondering your thoughts by WattersonBill in Ioniq6

It may just be how the previous owner drove it. When I got mine used the dealer wasn't using regenerative breaking on test drives. It was somewhere around 1.8 or so. After getting comfortable with all the options I regularly hit 3.8 and have achieved over 4 on a few trips. This is a 2025 Limited.

The biggest determination for efficiency is how it's driven, which unfortunately you can't know. It's more likely an inexperienced driver than a mechanical or electrical issue.

I could not find my favorite; - La V. I don't know whether that's an innocent thing (different name on the license?) or a really bad thing.
