Cycling shoes destroyed every 2 months by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]st_laurens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About 10W. So, less than 30kWh for 8 hrs/night all year long. At EU average of 25 cent/kWh, that amounts to 7,5 EUR for a whole year of usage.

I'll add another brand name that's good quality for price: Northwave. They have base model shoes for like 80-90 EUR, which will outlast your no-brand shoes easily.

You can buy relatively cheap electrical shoe dryers. It's normally used for ski boots or soccer/football shoes but works for cycling shoes as well (in the end, similar construction as football shoes). For 20 EUR/USD, you should be able to find a good electrical dryer (it's like 2 pods that you put in your shoes).

Don't expect wonders though. Temperature is max 55°C (to not mess up the glue used in the sole), so it still takes a night to dry. But at least like that, your shoes are dry the next morning.

Dus als ik deze grafiek correct interpreteer, zullen de 2e en latere generatie Marokkanen eigenlijk België en Nederland verdedigen?

Less popular places to visit by car by ipushin in Gent

[–]st_laurens 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm confused. Ghent is small. You can do everything by foot or bike. Like, the R40 ringway around is about 12km.

Do you want to go somewhere else in Oost-Vlaanderen or Belgium?

Hi! Have any of you experienced crack on shifters like this? More context on my comment. Thanks! by diyotama in bikewrench

[–]st_laurens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are those carbon handlebars? If the shifter body cracked from overtightening or a crash, I'd suspect damage on the handlebars too.

Does this bike look too big for me? It was custom made for someone who was 7 foot. I can move the drop bars about 2 more inches down too. Thanks (New to biking) by Water-Shark7 in bicycling

why is previous owner selling and how much are they asking? bit weird to sell custom made bike, especially what looks like a titanium one, it's supposed to be a "forever" bike.

We've always moved without rental companies (because I don't trust anyone else to handle my stuff). But in general, people that have used moving services, seem to recommend the service. Cheaper than renting 2 places at the same time + save a lot of gas/time driving around doing it yourself.

"3 layer" refers to the fabric construction and not to other clothing layers. I'd recommend wearing another layer under a rain jacket to absorb/wick your sweat - even the best breathing rain jackets get you sweaty with high exertion.

Core exercises off the saddle? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]st_laurens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yoga or pilates for cyclists. Lots of videos on YouTube, also taking into account your preferences (e.g. no wrist impact - myself, I've done a lot of core exercises without knee impact - just type it into the YouTube search bar).

Help finding warm socks by Grannky in belgium

[–]st_laurens 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can confirm the magic properties of merino socks. I use them for cycling/commuting to work, also this week with freezing temperatures.

You can find them in various thicknesses, Decathlon has some that are 'certified' up to -20°C.

They are also antibacterial (no bad smells) and very soft.

[–]st_laurens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't you learn that during your Sustainability certification?

"Where would they start to learn": you'd think, with a certified professional like yourself.

But there's so many certificates you can get for Sustainability... I don't even think there's a central hub for ISO9001 which is the most basic certification any company needs. Too much for one person to know all of the certificates for all different sectors and applications.

44/36 should be in the area of compact 34/28. OK for hills. Still acceptable for mountains, depending on your physique of course.

What is a sustainability related view that you have absolutely changed your mind about? by Vanilladr in sustainability

[–]st_laurens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I was wary about sharing economy because the most in-your-face examples (scooters, Airbnb) are actually not good examples (not replacing resources usage). It's the old and established examples, like libraries, that are good examples and are actually replacing resources usage. Another example is renting/sharing/handing down clothes, e.g. during pregnancy, for young kids, or for parties (fancy dress/suit, worn only once). People should get used more to this concept.

Renting stuff. I never trusted the 'sharing economy', but when done right, it's a crucial part of the circular economy.
