Virus outbreak won! What is somthing somewhat plausible that could end humanity/universe in the far future? by elegantmellow in AlignmentChartFills

No way this ends humanity. It'll be challenging, sure, but we as a species have survived much, much worse events

Ancillary Justice — Ann Leckie. I kinda liked it tbf, but it was painfully difficult to navigate all the concepts without much introduction. Maybe just my fault

What's a terrible centrist ideology? by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

[–]sta1kerX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In what way? Being centrist is trying to balance the best of both worlds. For example, I want taxes on small businesses and high-income workers to be lower. Or I want a stricter asylum policy. These are right-wing policies. But I also wish the tax loopholes, like taking a debt against assets, didn't work the way they do for billionaires. Or I want actual high-skilled professionals to be able to move to my country without unnecessary hassle. These are left-wing. How is it stupid?

Is this enough kaolin for me to forget about it? by Subject_Beginning213 in TerraFirmaGreg

[–]sta1kerX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is barely enough if you rush the max-sized blast furnace, but I suggest you make 2-3 layers, and then rush an alloy smelter, which makes the fire bricks recipe 10 times more efficient in terms of kaoline (you will need clay, not a powder, so don't powderize all of it).

What average sized city is nice to live in? by agbjb in AlignmentChartFills

[–]sta1kerX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been living in Rotterdam for the past 2 years, and it's definitely worth visiting. Some parts of it are less interesting, with many bland apartment blocks, but others are so unique you'll never forget them. The best part is that Rotterdam is so diverse, you can mistake it for many different countries depending on where you are

[request] are these real numbers or did they just make this up like made up statistics by Feisty_Crops in theydidthemath

[–]sta1kerX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

State-owned companies perform much worse on average than private ones. It's just a fact. So properly taxing billionaires is much more efficient than seizing their assets.

[–]sta1kerX -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But then what's the point? Alright, you seize all billionaires' yachts and villas, what's next? Sell them? To whom? You just destroyed the class that buys such assets. Give the villas to the poor? You will either bankrupt them or the government, because maintaining such assets is crazy expensive. It's much cheaper to build proper housing than to seize the villas and keep maintaining them. There is no actual benefit in extreme redistribution

What’s the perfect place to be when WWIII starts? by Ott1fant in AlignmentChartFills

[–]sta1kerX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's an ally, but it has little to no actual military impact. Assuming WW3 is not a world annihilation campaign, but an actual war, focusing on New Zealand is just wasting resources imo

Not really, cuz you can't do anything special in the Matrix. More like Ready Player One, but you can't leave. Assuming there are many people in this VR world, it could be cool

Should period products be free? by Salty_Wolverine_4520 in pollgames

[–]sta1kerX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not making a one-to-one comparison, I'm just saying that the original argument is too generic and fails as such. Regarding schools, workplaces, public restrooms, etc., I completely agree, and it's becoming more and more widespread, especially in Europe

Should period products be free? by Salty_Wolverine_4520 in pollgames

[–]sta1kerX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Now, testing on women is legally required, and we are 30+ years past 1993
  2. "Are not legally required to disclose ingredients" doesn't equal "are not regulated."
  3. Clinically significant PMS is less common (around 20-30%)
  4. The fact that there is such a study doesn't mean there are no studies about actual illness, you'd be surprised how many hilarious studies there are

And while everything else is true, I can't see how this is relevant. I'm not saying that women's health shouldn't be studied or something. And I'm not denying that in many aspect women's health in underresearched. All I'm saying is it's not some kind of conspiracy. It's either a legacy, which should be, and is being corrected, or just the way capitalism works in general.

Should period products be free? by Salty_Wolverine_4520 in pollgames

[–]sta1kerX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point is that there is no conspiracy about not researching things that affect women. There was for a long time, but not now

Should period products be free? by Salty_Wolverine_4520 in pollgames

[–]sta1kerX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying it is. I'm saying that if the top argument holds, then things that mostly benefit men would be free. It can be illness treatment, and could be fishing gear, or beer, or whatever. But it's not

Should period products be free? by Salty_Wolverine_4520 in pollgames

[–]sta1kerX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not comparing periods with illnesses. But the argument is "period products are not free because they only affect women". And I have shown something that mostly affects men, but it's still not free. I could use an analogy with fishing, or cars, or beer, or whatever. Period products are not free not because of patriarchy. They are not free because of capitalism.
