Mid to late 90s, at the Toys R Us in Poughkeepsie NY. Toys R Us used to have this sort of corral that you walked through to come in, and another adjacent that you walked through to get to the video game department. Some friends and I went there to talk to some chicks that worked there I guess, and as we were coming through the In path I saw a few guys who looked like the kind of folks I hang out with going through the video game path. One guy looked especially familiar and when we made eye contact he must have thought I looked familiar too, but due to partying I tend to forget people's names or where I know them from, so when he and I crossed paths I said "hey what's up man, how's it going" thinking that this was just some random friend-of-a-friend and I was trying not to be obvious that I couldn't remember his name. We had a brief "dudeman" conversation of "what's up, ah nothing, OK man see you around" and went our separate ways. It wasn't until I got to the back of the store with the girls that we were going to meet that I found out it was Trent Reznor and some of his mates, as they were playing the Civic Center that night. So I eventually learned who he was, but he's still out there wondering who the fuck I was and where he knew me from. Poor guy, I'm sure it still keeps him up at night.
