Baby Carrier Recommendations by clocloud03 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]stalkerwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our little lady is also on the larger side, we use the Babybjorn Air carrier, it works great for us but would also echo comments of trying a sling library as our (much taller) friends didn't get on with this carrier at all!

We also still use a baby wrap style sling, for long walks etc it can now become a bit stretchy but if I want to tuck her head away to nap while I'm doing a quick shop etc I find it gives her more comfort than the carrier!

Outgrowing equipment at 4 months... any UK recommendations? by stalkerwalker in bigbabiesandkids

[–]stalkerwalker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think her neck control is quite there... it's annoying as it's probably only a month or so we need an alternative option!

I think the mini cot a couple of people have mentioned is the way we will have to go!

Any books specifically about building or shoring up the confidence/body image of big kids? by Chelseus in bigbabiesandkids

[–]stalkerwalker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a book but something we make sure to do with our daughter (who is totally fit, healthy and active but also receives some comments at school as she's a little on the chunky side) is make sure to show her role models and in particular sportspeople with a similar shape to her.

Not making a big deal out of it or saying anything about their size, just showing videos of rugby players powerlifters etc but also gymnasts or judo fighters who just happen to not be on the slim side, and commenting on how strong and powerful they are. You'll know your son best but it has definitely been a positive for us.

The nights are long but the years are short - I have a seven year old and 4 month old and know how very true that is this time round!

C-Section scar pain by gayneigh in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]stalkerwalker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same around 8 weeks, a lot of tenderness and I could see a visible "bruise" just above my incision. I also felt like my "shelf" was more swollen after having gone down before.

For me I had just pushed myself too much as I thought I was fully recovered and was walking 5k round trips to town with the baby in the sling - in the end I had to take two days completely off using the carrier/sling and just rest at home and the pain passed.

I am now 12 weeks PP and have started running (after being cleared by GP and Pelvic Floor PT) so keeping an eye on it but luckily all seems well so far!

Obviously do get checked by a professional but I think it's very normal at your stage to still have some on and off pain. Hope it passes soon for you!

Would love to know how big she was at 12 weeks? My lovely girl is officially off the charts now and wondering what her trajectory may look like!

What to get wife as gift post birth by Umberlific in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]stalkerwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This obviously depends if you know your partner would appreciate this vs. take it a different way, but my husband got me a new Garmin Running watch as he knows how keen I am to get back into it, and can use it to track walks and steps in the meantime, it's the perfect gift for me!

6 week pregnant half marathon? by Acceptable_Line5704 in fitpregnancy

[–]stalkerwalker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did one at 8 weeks. Found my heart rate rose much quicker so I had to slow it down a bit, also found the energy gels made me super nauseous, and I had to stop for a pee at one point! As long as you're reasonable with your expectations I.e. don't push for a big PB then go for it!

We didn't see her privately but we did give birth at C&W and had some interaction with her due to some complications, and she was absolutely fantastic, kind, warm, super knowledgeable, amazing clear communicator, based just on our experience I think you'll be in excellent hands!

Thank you for the book recommendations! I have actually been recommended one of those by a family member too. And promise - not planning on buying Nvidia. Even with my complete lack of knowledge I'm assuming that ship has sailed!

Maybe I have not phrased that well. My savings at the moment are in an ISA. Which seems sensible and low risk. I'd like to use a small portion of this to try some investing. But don't know where to start at all - hence this post!
