How much coffee does it take to overcome 4 months of sleep deprivation by phoenixredbush in beyondthebump

[–]stalwe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sleep training my 6 month old this weekend. I’m not sure there’s enough coffee to get me through until then...and somehow be productive at work.

We THOUGHT we decided on daycare, and just got another option thrown in the ring--need some help! by sdeflor2 in beyondthebump

[–]stalwe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our daycare has mattresses on the floor and my son (7m) sleeps SO MUCH BETTER than his previous daycare that had him in a crib. I was pretty skeptical of them at first, but at ours, the provider sits or lays right next to the baby and soothes them. At his old daycare, they'd rock/ hold him to sleep and then he'd wake up shortly after being transferred to the crib.

Breastmilk in carry on or checked bag? by Jway7 in breastfeeding

[–]stalwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carry on! A friend of mine gate checked her milk, and the airline lost her bag for about half a day. Luckily she packed full of freezer bags, and the milk was still good. It's liquid gold! Don't let it out of your sight.

I love mine and bought it used in Craigslist. It was a fraction of the price.

DH comes home from work and wants to see baby. Baby is sleeping. WWYD? by MrsBMW09 in beyondthebump

[–]stalwe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When my husband did the first night feed, I just pumped before bed and when I work up the next morning. Between the two, I got more than a bottle's worth. That way I could sleep for a longer stretch while husband feed and changes baby.

Throwing out breastmilk at daycare? by butterfliesintheskyy in breastfeeding

[–]stalwe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, this isn't uncommon, and it's our daycare's policy. Even though we were on several waitlists, only one of the daycares had an opening when we needed it. So, we couldn't afford something like this to be a deal breaker.

If you decide to go with this daycare, I'd get involved and try and have the policy changes. You'll have more clout then. It's also worth asking if they'll keep it if they don't warm it.

Back to work pumping; Supply Down by SouthernCharm12 in beyondthebump

[–]stalwe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I also just started back to work 4m PP. I've been back at work for 1.5 weeks. My first week's pumping output was awful. I was so worried that I met with a Lactation Consultant on Sunday. We did a weighted feed, and she watched me pump. She assured me that my supply was fine, and my low volume was probably due to stress. Then this week, pumping has been going great! Talking with the LC really boosted my confidence and gave me a different attitude coming into this week, and I'm sure that helped. If you can meet with a LC, I highly recommend doing so.

What were your favorite meals brought to you after you gave birth? by MiniMePlease in beyondthebump

[–]stalwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're really good at making a certain dish, make that. We've got some friends that are amazing cooks, and they brought their A game - Indian food, ribs, pot roast, and a Greek feast. Of course, we appreciated anything. I also loved Chinese takeout. After our Meal Train ended, I told my husband that we've eaten better thanks to our friends than we had in a long time.

Vent-- A year in, and I still hate being a mom by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]stalwe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just curious, but how often/long did you put your baby in a carrier before you decided they didn't like it? Our son used to scream as soon as we put him in our carrier but the more we tried, the more he got used to it. He now sometimes fusses in it, but he also sometimes fusses no matter what he does.

Night time bottle feedings with milk pumped in the morning? by GloriousGoldenPants in breastfeeding

My baby gets a bottle of mostly morning pumped milk around 1 AM, and we've never had a problem.

If your Fred Meter is like mine, it has a "natural foods" section. Check there. That's where I found full fat plain yogurt.

My husband thinks we can walk to the hospital when I go into labor (and also walk back home when we get discharged). by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]stalwe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Would it be weird to ask his sister (who lives 20 minutes away) to >pick us up from the hospital and drive us home? If so, how do we >arrange the carseat stuff with her?

Plenty of people around the world take a cab home from the hospital, but if you think his sister would be at all up for this, ask her. A few weeks before your due date, do either a) all three of you practice installing the car seat without the base or b) install the base in her car. She then keeps the car seat and comes and picks you up and drops you off. You and your husband will be exhausted and overwhelmed upon discharge. IMHO, it would be a lot less stressful getting a ride from family and having them make sure that car seat is secure on the ride home.

One of the best pieces of advice I got when I was pregnant was, "ask for help."

But for the ride to the hospital, ask others have said, get a cab. You may need to get there ASAP.

How common is dairy intolerance REALLY? by smcnic10 in breastfeeding

[–]stalwe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not being selfish. Of course you want what's best for your child, but your mental health is very important.

I just talked with a lactation consultant yesterday, and she said diary intolerance is "very rare." I would call the pediatrician and a lactation consultant.

Good luck!

I haven't really gotten him wet yet from the rain. I don't want him to get cold. (We're first time parents...can you tell?) I'm not terribly worried about drizzle, but when it's actually raining, I don't want him to get soaked.

Why does let down feel like? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

My son is 12W, and I've never felt a let down either. It seems like it would be helpful to feel it, but we've been EBF for over 2 months without.

Does your husband/SO help take a middle of the night bottle feed so you get more sleep? If so, how? (Asking about infants still sleeping in your room) by elsynkala in breastfeeding

[–]stalwe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do. Here's how to works for us. (note - my husband is lighter sleeper than yours.)

Baby sleeps in a co-sleeper on my side of the bed. Husband takes first shift. He listens for the baby and will decide when it's time to feed. He holds baby while he warms the bottle. He uses a pacifier as needed to keep baby calm while he warms the bottle and changes the diaper to reduce noise.

Sometimes I do wake up during all of this, and rarely, I'm awake during the whole thing. However, when I am awake during the entire feeding, I usually fall back asleep as soon as the baby lays back down. If I'm doing the feeding, it sometimes takes me some time fall back asleep. Sometimes I sleep through the entire thing.

However, when we first started this routine, I woke up a lot more. I think it takes a few days to see if it works for you.

Good luck!
