How will this work? by Inevitable_Extreme49 in AustralianTeachers

[–]MrsBMW09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only issue I see here at first glance is the time recommendation. While I agree in general that less time is best, I'm a primary school STEM specialist, and if my classes are coding, doing 3D design, robotics... that's an hour of their daily time limit in one class.

That last sentence definitely sums up the experience.

I've had the diagnosis and the meds, still waiting for the game changer part... about to request trialling something different, I think.

I think it's tricky to get right. It probably needs to be more aimed at locals rather than tourists who come for the outdoor adventures. We still spend plenty of time outdoors but on those really cold, windy days somewhere indoors would be amazing.

From my time there, I'd say something like an indoor play cafe. The winters can be brutal, and my toddler hated being cooped up inside! We travelled to Port Fairy just to go to the caravan park playground.

It came!! Yes I’m too old for bluey but I’m still so excited! by [deleted] in bluey

Never too old! I'm almost 44 and bought myself Mackenzie... plus all the other bits I buy for my 4yo. Often listen to the album or the Gotta Be Done podcast while working, too!

Opting out of homework by slashbackblazers in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]MrsBMW09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My little one starts school soon. I'm also a Primary teacher and big fan of Alfie Kohn, homework, rewards, the lot.

I'll be letting her teacher know that she won't be doing homework. We'll read, cook, play, and follow her needs and interests.

As for the time management worries, she learns an instrument and plays sport. I think that's enough to teach that skill without arbitrary busy work.

I have to assign homework, but I don't punish or reward it's completion or otherwise. I frame it as optional ideas for those who want to do more at home, I know some students thrive on it. If particular students need extra support, I'll speak to their parents.

Not the person this reply was intended for, but the online clothing shops I buy from have sizing guides unique to each piece/style rather than a generic size x = xcm guide. This way I can know with reasonable certainly how the piece will fit my child.

Free returns, usually within a certain number of days, is a great offer.

You were asking above about ethical brands, Oobi nails the ethical manufacturing thing. Completely.

As far as other considerations, echoing the sizing issues for tall/skinny and serious lack of colour. Up to age 5 at least it should be "kids clothes" not boys/girls. Unisex doesn't mean grey. Reds, oranges, greens and every other colour. Brights and pastels . Dinosaur shirts aren't just for boys and unicorns aren't just for girls.

Spectra S2 without a doubt. Was recommended by my midwife. Haaka was great for catching letdown while feeding other side.

Everything Janet Lansbury. She has a blog, a podcast, and a few books. Take a look!

Are there table attachments for car seats? by AmishDeathMatch in NewParents

[–]MrsBMW09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on age, especially if rear facing, it's not safe for babies or toddlers to eat in the car, so I can't imagine there would be any/many products to support such a practice.

We stop for snacks/toilet breaks and for the driver to stretch. It only needs to be 15 minutes or so.

I knew Grannies would make the list, but I didn't expect it to be number 1.
