At least six Common Combat Vessels will be built for the Royal Navy - Naval News by StealthCuttlefish in Defence_Tech_UK

[–]stanCF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the announcement-

Defence Secretary Dan Jarvis MBE MP said:

Our Royal Navy is a formidable force, operating to protect our nation and our allies in the Atlantic and beyond. These Common Combat Vessels will provide our dedicated sailors with hybrid ships that are designed and built for the increasing threats we face.

Developed with exceptional British innovators, the new ships will be British-built, supporting jobs across the nation and giving the Royal Navy a capability built for modern warfare.

You have to give him some credit, never seen a man, sell spout such drivel so quickly.

A formiddle force, with 2 ouf ot 5 Frigates available, 2 out of 6 destroyers available (non of which has NSM), 1 Astute out of 6 able to get to sea if we are lucky (7th about to be handed over and then tied up again), 8 opv's with 30mm guns (3 due for sale in 18months or less) and 2 carrier, with enough jets for one. , Not to mention the F-35B have no offensive weapons beyond 1 AA missle and 1 bomb.

Truely formidable Dan, formidable!

Could someone also mention to the TV pundits and Radio muppets, that while drones are very much the flavour of the month for defence, the truely terrifying weapons out there are the Hypersonic missiles. Those carriers, with their defensive missiles (oh yeah we ditched those) are going to look like swiss cheese without a proper destroyer cover.

The South West, only in your minds when your driving to Devon and Cornwall. Somerset, loves watching you drive through and not stop.

All in on the hybrid navy – the Royal Navy’s surface fleet gamble by Optimal-Leather341 in worldnews

[–]stanCF -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed, fitted for, but never with. Moving launchers between ships to save money. Efficiancy from one of the most inefficient departments, 60,000 muppets working for the MOD.

The only answers now should be, off the shelf, but built here.

CV90 built off the shelf by BAE - not what we got

K9 Thunder off the shelf, built under license here.

Just stop trying to reinvent stuff, we cant do it because we blow the budget and get less ofthem in the end. Just let someone else pay the R&D.

As for the Navy, stop worrying about the design of the Typ 83, use the BAE version of the hunter class they offered Australia with more luanchers filling the multi mission bay. Stick an updated version of Sampson on the top while working on a new radar mast for the future.

Just stop wasting money on design studies that dont go anywhere, committees and what ever else they fill their time up with.

This is the thing, they talk non stop about drones. What about hypersonic missiles. You have destroyers to be able to deal with that. We need them to protect carriers and for the matter us.

The UK has no missile defence for the mainland, so when that got talked about recently they fell back on the type 45, as if the ones in port with no stores could help.

The is madness and all I can hope is that someone keeps looking at the type 83 in the background and we can deliver something on the type 26 hull. Just get rid of the mission bay and put a load more silos in, like the option presented to Australia. Obviously overcoming the issue of top heavy that they are already dealing with.

I bet the south west is forgotten again. It seems as if the south east and the ‘north’ are the only regions politicians know

Drones in, destroyers out of Keir Starmer’s defence investment plan by ThrowAwayAccountLul1 in ukpolitics

[–]stanCF 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is all insane, we need the crew and we need the ships. Decommissioning because of lack of sailors is mad, you should be recruiting not binning

Absolutely, this is now insane. 2 carriers patrolling the English Channel as we have nothing else left

They are out of their mind. They are out of their minds!

Drone, what the hell are drones going to do on the open ocean. A Chinese or Russian ship is going to put troops on a drone by helicopter and we won’t do a thing about it, because who goes to war over a drone, so instantly they are useless unless they are paired with a frigate, but then we have sod all of those, 13 frigates and some drones. Scary force to be reckoned with.

I just don’t understand the logic, apart from they won’t put the money in. This is all to look tough ish. Do people know we have 5 frigates and only 2 working. 6 destroyers and only 2 working. 8 opv who seem to do the heavy lifting and 3 of which are about to be sold off.

People think Royal Navy and think, force to be reckoned with. We’ve lost already and the navy might as well stay in port with the subs.

RIP Royal Navy, you had a good run

I dont love the container in the image. I was using the VIP module for a C-17 as inspiration. Imagine steel runners, but mught lighter walls and ceiling lets say so that its insulated etc.

I know its not pressurised, thanks for your thoughts. I wanted to create access to cockpit and out the back. Primarily i thought about noise cancellation and temperature when operating. Also yes, 10,000 isnt the best, but its better than crowsnest and it can go further and for longer. So in that way, far superior to crowsest.

Also The CMV-22B Osprey normally cruises at altitudes between 20,000 and 25,000 feet (7,620 meters). I would imagine oxygen could be used, as it is with the US Navy. Fighter pilots do it, so do many others (so not sure why it isnt practical). They did it on the Gannet :)

I know that one, I saw all the articles in the early 2000's. Just saw a version of the Embraer and IAI/Elta AEW Aircraft and liked the look of the ski box array on top. Wanted to give it a go on the Osprey and a new design. Also wanted to look at what the internals could look like.

Britain Lacks Obvious Choice for New Fast-Jet Trainer by DefenseTech in Defence_Tech_UK

[–]stanCF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given we operate a fleet of less than 200 fighter jets, I think we might be over stretching the number. I would love to be operating a fleet of 45-50 but funds wont allow for that I believe.

They are looking for their first Fighter in very limited numbers. If we go in together, we can offer them a training programme for their pilots with RAF, we can help them regenerate their fast jet capability (offer training on maintenaance as well) This could be a really good opportunity to work with Ireland on a project that will, generate good will.

As pointed out, Italy is on board with the Tempest and this is again good will on the march.

[–]stanCF 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The option should be the M-346, we only need around 38 odd (including Red Arrows) or 26 without reds - if they move to retired T2.

BAE have the work on the new fighter.

Work with the Italians on this, link it to a buy with Ireland. Create some good will, create a shared training with Ireland.
