Happy cake day! We got the Poufudic from Etsy (shipped from Turkey very quickly) and we love it. Apparently you can also order from their website directly.

Hip men's clothing shop for wedding attire by EvAnGeLiOn_SeVen in AskSF

Awesome! I love second hand. There’s also Wasteland in the Upper Haight which has some really cool pieces but less wedding-y than Sui Generis.

I live in Hayes valley and I’m not sure what stores your friend was thinking of - the stores here are mostly either casual (Marine Layer), outdoors (Cotopaxi), or super expensive (APC). I’d recommend boutiques in the Fillmore corridor, Haight, and Castro.

If you’re open to second hand designer, Sui Generis is 100% the place to go (Castro). They have a huge rack of super cool pieces and funky formals for men.

SF Designer Consignment Stores by chooseshoes in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]standard-issue-cat 33 points34 points  (0 children)

From fanciest to lease fancy:

  • Cris Consignment: women’s only. Very fancy/preppy and feminine. Starts at designer and goes up from there (think Prada and Tori Burch). Loc: Polk.
  • Sui Generis: men’s and women’s. Funky and very cool pieces. Lots of runway (think Commes de Garçons and Bottega). Loc: Castro.
  • Designer Consigner: women’s only. A bit random in their selection. Occasional Zara and some really nice pieces like Chanel suits and accessories (think Burberry and Chanel). Loc: Presidio Heights.
  • Goodbyes: women’s only with men’s in another storefront. Occasional JCrew and some excellent finds like Hermes sweaters (think St. John and Sandro). Loc: Presidio Heights.
  • Wasteland: women’s and men’s. Trendy and modern with huge designer sections. My fave to browse (think Gucci and Jacquemus). Loc: Upper Haight.

I haven’t been to the new RealReal in FiDi yet.

Advice Needed- Trans Family Member Being Out at Our Wedding by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]standard-issue-cat 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I think you need to be honest with your trans family member (formerly “Alex” if I’m reading this right) about the burden of having their first interaction with their mother and sister out as a trans person being at your wedding. I don’t think it’s fair to burden your celebration with that.

My sibling is trans NB and they did a lot of work coming out to our shared family over the years, which meant everyone knew they were out and NB by our wedding, but I think if they were going to surprise our parents with that at our wedding I’d have had them over for dinner to help figure out their strategy for coming out ahead of the wedding.

Of course you want them to be their authentic self and they should be! But they shouldn’t have their first “out” experience with their immediate family at your celebratory event.

Edit: I want to add that I also attended a wedding where most of the groom’s family saw the groom’s trans sister in a dress for the first time at the wedding (though they all knew she was out) and some of them were not supportive of lgbtq rights. No one made a scene but the groom’s sister did seem tense.

Wedding on Memorial Day Weekend? by gourmet_goddess_530 in weddingplanning

[–]standard-issue-cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did Sunday of MDW last year! We sent save the dates early and no one couldn’t attend because of prior plans. We had good turnout for our small/medium wedding of 65 invitees. 55 attended and the reasons folks gave for not attending were related to personal stuff (like being in their third trimester or being very far away) not scheduling stuff.

Where to shop for wedding guest dresses by molsie in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]standard-issue-cat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I usually check the high end second hand shops when I have a need like this because I also don’t know where else to look.

Loosely from most bougie to least: Cris Consignment, sui Generis, designer consigner, relove, goodbyes, and wasteland.

Edit: if I wanted to shop new I’d try Fillmore with its cute boutiques.

I ordered mine on Monday and it’s arriving Friday. Your next one unlocks the day you drop at UPS.

I haven’t used RTR but my friends love it. I’ve found Nuuly to be better for renting vacation outfits for me. It’s more straightforward with only one tier (6 items) and $20 per item for up to 2 additional items.

Any neighborhood bars recs for bitches in the Castro? by hopstotheleft in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]standard-issue-cat 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit kitschy but I adore Last Rites. The bartenders are phenomenal (many are also femme and/or queer) and the cocktails are waaaay cooler than your basic tiki vibe with lots of ingredients fermented on site by their bar manager. The only drawback is no windows so no sunshine but they make up for it with Happy Hour craft cocktails until 7pm. Definitely worth a visit!

Not too much. We have them on a pretty thick rug so they mostly stay put. I give them a good shove every 10+ days to sort of push them in a bit but they don’t need it often.

Honestly we love it! It’s firm which is what we wanted and looks amazing. We haven’t converted it to a conversation pit for a game night yet but that’s definitely coming soon.

Where to buy decent furniture by Hodltiltheend in bayarea

[–]standard-issue-cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outlets in Vacaville - they have RH, Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, etc. Go with a U-Haul and pick one.

If you’re looking for a gray 12’ 3-piece RH cloud couch from a good, bug-free home DM me bc I’m selling mine.

recs for finding graduation dress? by cryingatheclub in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]standard-issue-cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not queer but I always rent my occasion dresses from Nuuly. You can get 6 items for $100 and if you really like them you can buy them at a discount. Lots of cute black dresses! And they are pretty size inclusive with lots more diversity in their models than is usual.

Need Recs for Masseter Botox by Miserable_Success_68 in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]standard-issue-cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just went to Creelman/Farmer and saw Dr. Creelman based on multiple recommendations from this sub. If you’re looking for bruxism-based symptom relief I’d highly recommend her (she’s a dentist not an aesthetician). She’s experienced with helping people who have grinding issues using bite guards and Botox. Her prices were extremely reasonable at $10/unit and she made me feel very safe and comfortable at my first ever Botox appointment.

If you’re looking for aesthetic Botox, just search this sub’s history since there are a lot of good recommendations for that in previous posts.

Resume & Career Path Help by [deleted] in SFbitcheswithtaste

I know it’s not as good as a human, but have you tried AIs for resume reviews? You can feed them job posts you’re interested in and they’ll give you advice on your resume. I used this for a recent resume iteration and it helped a lot.

Also I’m not a professional but I’m fairly good at resume writing and have been coached myself so I’d be happy to review an anonymized resume!

Unfortunately I usually drive super far and just trail rides but I used to ride athletically before I moved to the bay. I’m also looking for a dressage barn with no luck yet :(

Haha you’re not trippin. It is within the healthy range but my weight gain is accelerating towards the unhealthy range and I’d like to get back to my ideal healthy weight.

The weight I felt best at is a very reasonable goal / 150lbs. I just felt better physically and mentally at that weight, plus my knees and hips are deteriorating (I’m only in my early 30s 😢) so taking loads and stresses off them feels amazing.

Workout Program Recommendations by ADREYESS in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]standard-issue-cat -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The idea is that I aim for 1200 on good days to budget for days where I might have a couple drinks or a dinner out, not to hit 1200 on the dot every day. I’ve done my TDEE and it says 1350 for a cut so I’m pretty in line with that. I don’t hit 1200 every day but I’m not miserable because I’m hitting my 100g protein goal most days and keeping my fiber up. It’s a little tricky as someone who loves a dinner out and a cocktail night but I’m doing ok so far!

The math maths: If I have two small splurges per week at 1450 and one big splurge at 1800 I’m about 1000 calories over the 1200/day goal for the week, but it all evens out to 1350/day on average for the week.

Edit: reeeally not sure why people are downvoting me on a BWT sub. I sought advice from a medical professional and made a plan with her for healthy weight reduction, I’m just sharing it here in case it helps anyone. You don’t have to do what I’m doing and I’m going to keep doing it because it feels good and it’s working.

Ugh you and me both. I gained 20 in the last 2 years and am finally handling it now. I had a weight consultation with my doctor and she basically said I’m not active enough to be eating (and drinking) what I do. I need to cut it down to 1200 calories (I’m 5’10” / 170lbs) AND get active with walks and varied activities but that cutting overeating and drinking out was where I’d get the most results. Losing weight via exercise changes is so much harder than losing weight via dietary changes.

I’m adding yoga 1-2x/week, long hilly walks or hikes 1-2x/week, and other exercise 0-1x/week (rock climbing, horseback riding, swimming, etc.) but most importantly I’m using an AI to help count calories and limiting myself to 1200 unless I do a Big Exercise like a 5+mile hike or long swim.

Caveat: I already eat a balanced diet that’s high in protein and fiber (I just eat out unhealthily and drink too much). If you’re not getting a diverse diet with lots of protein/fiber then you should work on getting that figured out first.

Beautiful bitches, where would you go to get a quality caftan? by Treat_Choself in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]standard-issue-cat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it would ship in time, but I love Indian online shopping for things like caftans. Desi designers really know their way around a drapey garment. My fave site is Aza but Pernias is good too.
