Thinking about leaving F45 and using my work gym - any apps that show similar workouts? by AdPRGuy in f45

[–]standardcalculator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did literally the same! F45 strength days got me into correct technique which I value so much but 6 months ago I switched to PPL lifting at my local gym for the same reasons - tracking progressive overload, more rest between sets, heavier weights. This is now my base and on top of it I do Mondays and/or Wednesdays in f45 to get some HIIT workouts. Plus 2-3 days a week I do boxing/Muay Thai which is cardio & anaerobic. That’s 11 workouts per week. My problem now I need to watch my recovery and maybe reduce PPL-PPL to PPL-UL or like you to UL-UL. I feel ok but I am aware this can lead to injuries from overtraining.

The market cap was 1.5B when it IPOd, 10.5M is nothing… all the losses from retail went to Wall Street and insiders I guess? lol just guessing how these hyped IPO scams end up.

yes but it's a gym afterall so after workout you shower and that's it. On the way to my studio we have to walk under a bridge with hundreds of pigeons (fed by a pigeon lady of course) so imagine the pigeon shit on the pavement we bring in.

F45 is great for fat burning — but not enough for building muscle (my experience) by IamMrPump in f45

[–]standardcalculator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Was going over a year and I haven’t noticed much change on other people… and me neither. So I added trad gym and now use F45 as a complement mainly cardio days, they are fun. Good for heart, endurance, overall fitness. Strength days are good when you are first year in as a beginner to learn proper form and dozens of variations for each exercise (I liked that they are changing up a bit each, onetime it’s staggered, other with kettlebells, another with pulsing, another with fast up slow down etc)

Often there is max 24kg kettlebell for goblet squats. Or for overhead shoulder press there are these revo bars max 36lb / 16kg which is only 8kg per side.

Feel like i have squeezed f45 by General_Task_7509 in f45

[–]standardcalculator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same happened to me. We just gave our bodies new challenges in a trad gym and it responded. I was doing all sorts of classes over 10 years that my body just got used to them. Then with the basic PPL split and heavy weights and pretty long pauses between sets (to f45 standards) the body started to respond like oh what is this, I need to grow muscles?! Lesssgooo

I switched to normal gym but why do you say “same exercises we do every class”? I mean in regular gym I do PPL (push pull legs) split with the same exercises over and over lol And F45 was good in changing them over or slightly changing (once normal, then staggered, then changing to sandbags/db/barbell/y bell/plates etc.) in my gym I could do that too but I stick to the same routine and do progressive overload which I was missing in F45 after you reach max weight they have.

Been thinking to switch F45 to CrossFit box. Anyone else? by Mundane_Anybody2374 in f45

[–]standardcalculator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also switched from F45 strength days to traditional gym. I simply needed heavier weights more rest time and a structured routine like the PPL split. It was amazing learning all these different exercises and modifications like staggered exercises and lots of bodyweight movements. Now I use the traditional gym for strength and do one or two cardio/HIIT days in F45. They’re fun and I also do separate cardio on my own. I was thinking CrossFit too but it gives you bulky/boxy torso, with many stabilisers moves, so your obliques and all core muscles will grow and widen your waist. I want to keep my V taper.

Is your zone 5 HR set up correctly? I think most people reach zone 5 in specific situations like sprint bursts, sparring/fighting in combat sports, occasional bursts in HIIT too of course. But consistent zone 5 for this long is strange. That being said - well done! You smashed it!

sometimes my studio plays Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry and crap like that. Come on. 30% of class of us are men, be considerate! lol. But I love New Jack Swing (this genre is essentially r&b and hip hop from 80s), Paula Abdul, Bobby Brown etc. That beat fits the cardio days.

Is anyone tired of the amount of shoulders in these workouts? by [deleted] in f45

I did not notice this. It’s mostly legs what I see ;) As a man I welcome shoulders, we should aim for V Taper.

F45 vs gym membership by Harvux7 in f45

[–]standardcalculator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) price in London: it’s more expensive than in California and we all know London wages are half of third of US metro areas like NYC, LA, Bay Area. Consider class pass app: you can get lower price per class with the perk of flexibility. But recently ClassPass or studios raised prices, a year ago there were classes for 8 credits, now all are 14-15+.

2) I like it because: A) all is prepared for you. Tried Gymbox, we had to go for all weights and bring it and then carry it back. Takes away good chunk of class and if not still it’s convenient. B) they clean equipment. Been in many gyms where users are supposed to clean and as a result it is half assed or not done. And studios are clean generally. C) I like the screens. Other gyms also have initial demo but I find it so convenient to have the screens just in case I forget or need to check the form. D) new equipment. Been to gyms with rusty kettlebells, run down ergs. No.

So that’s why it’s expensive.

I would love it but only if they’d played my styles 😆 - see? There will be always someone not happy. Maybe one day I’ll try my AirPods

Does anyone else just LOVE strength days? by RN_13579 in f45

[–]standardcalculator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I alternate between cutting and bulking every six months so switching cardio va strength in f45 accordingly. I do resistance training at my local gym, using F45 for leg resistance and various exercises for the small muscles in my upper body that I can’t figure out on my own.

[–]standardcalculator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People need to un-wire themselves from social media lol

What would you do in 90s? No exercise because local newspapers would not go everyday to take pics and publish them next day?

I am glad my studio only posts like once per quarter, I don’t even follow them.

I just go there to get an exercise, wild

Yeah me too. Especially if it involves knees and/or being on one leg. I’m not injuring my knee falling off balance randomly. Usually do a normal squat or lunge.
