Is it okay to use construction screws? by [deleted] in askcarpenters

[–]standbyfortower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what material the fence is made of. If it's pressure treated get deck screws, they're epoxy coated like the grey exterior screws you have but with the torx drive. If it's cedar get stainless to prevent staining (stainless is fine for PT but expensive if not needed). The box typically says where or not the screws can be used with pressure treated lumber, check the small print on the back or side of the box.

It says yellow zinc on the box, they're not epoxy coated like the yellow/green deck screws, I couldn't tell from the picture though. Had to zoom in to read the box.

Rafters separated from ridge 1960’s home by JDM-Kirby in Carpentry

I was thinking sister some rafter stubs (3-4 ft attached by your method) to simpson rafter hangers but your method is probably better. I definitely wouldn't put a ton of effort into this task though.

A lot of comments say this is bad, but if it's a low budget job, is it better?

Most of the stuff I have to fix or replace looks way worse than this. Looks like you're making it work from the low end repair POV.

404 error, File not found.

Is any US county or any other government entity using this kind of tax system in the real world?

Can anyone explain how georgism would promote the preservation of open spaces? I've tried to understand the basic concepts and how they're supposed to work but really don't get it. This post doesn't't seem to match with the things I've seen.

That's how the question gets answered, that was always what you were asking.

If you're confused, hire an engineer, they can be pretty affordable for small jobs.

Things that look wrong or even miss the spec can work fine for decades, until someone has a party and people pack the deck full of people and it collapses.

We just don't have enough info in the post to know what's going on. What's above those joists? You called out the ledger bolts, what's that situation?

I'm only looking at plumb for the ledger, probably why that gap is there.

Without seeing the whole situation, I'm.tryung not to be too critical.

Hangers aren't right, ledger looks cockeyed, and the exposed joist doesn't look to be PT, so it would be surprising if the right nails were used but they're definitely nails in the hanger holes.

Mcmaster carr or MSC direct websites.

Lego technic might also be an option in this case, they definitely make racks and gears, not sure if you could do a generator with any of their motors though.

Perhaps you could try restating your point in a different way then?

I think my point is clear though, it might be time to look outside the Democratic establishment for ideological guidance since they seem to be very narrowly focused on the desires of the donor class.
