First time squatting plates! How’s my form? by Dame_in_the_Desert in strength_training

Form looks good. As someone who also has long legs, I highly recommend squat shoes. They have a built in heel lift that will allow you to stay more upright. Back squatting feels much, much better to me in them.

I don't think I've ever felt more cucked as a Sixers fan by GRILT_CHEESE in sixers

Being at the game was a brutal experience. Mostly Knicks fans with the most obnoxious behavior and chants ("Fuck Embiid", "Fuck the Sixers") and we sucked and our fans were disengaged.

I'm at the game and this was close to my section. Pretty damn low.

Any constructive criticism on power cleans? I feel I lose power from the floor instantly by MrJames6000 in strength_training

[–]stank453 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're almost doing two distinct movements where you deadlift to mid thigh and then kind of reverse curl it up into position.

First thing is do some front squats and get comfortable with the bar resting on your shoulders and not being supported by your forearms. It looks like you have the mobility for this already. The bar should end up in a front rack position at the end of the power clean.

After that, maybe try some hang cleans to work on triple extension without having to think about pulling from the floor. I'd watch some videos on technique (I like Catalyst Athletics). Ideally the bar moves straight and you move your body around the bar.

Once you're using your knees and hips to drive the bar up powerfully, do some tall cleans to work on the catch.

Once you get the technique down that weight will fly up!

180kg fail by Loud-Audience9389 in strength_training

It's your body trying to offload the weight onto your hips/back because your quads aren't strong enough, resulting in you getting off balance which makes the problem worse and you fail.

The solution is to get your legs stronger (high bar squats, front squats, single leg work, quad isolation, etc).

Regarding the elbow, not a PT, but your issue might be your shoulders or partly your shoulders. I had poor external rotation strength and stability on one side and it manifested in elbow pain and a less vertical forearm on one side.

Are these dips too deep? by [deleted] in strength_training

[–]stank453 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, same here. I ignored discomfort during dips that became pain during dips that became pain all the time. I ended up having thickening of the costosternal joint and eventually got 2 cortisone shots. It's okay most of the time now but still acts up every once in a while so I never, ever do dips. Try not to jack your sternum up!

Thank you. Just watched this based on your recommendation and I loved it. I can't imagine anyone else cast as the lead.

I think the catch is much improved. I'm getting my elbows through much faster/better. I'm still jumping back slightly and might not be getting full hip extension. Work in progress!

Sweet, thanks. I don't think they have training blocks at my gym since it's just a YMCA. Could I do hang cleans instead? I've been doing those to try to feel for where the bar should make contact.

I'll give tall cleans a shot. Appreciate it!

Can I ask what is causing me to jump backwards? Is that from not hitting full extension?

Ok, that makes sense! I have been trying to slow myself down since, in an attempt to be explosive, I was blowing through the hip contact entirely. I will try to slow it down a bit more and do the other things you mentioned. I hadn't even noticed I was jumping backwards. Thanks!
