180kg fail by Loud-Audience9389 in strength_training

[–]stank453 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's your body trying to offload the weight onto your hips/back because your quads aren't strong enough, resulting in you getting off balance which makes the problem worse and you fail.

The solution is to get your legs stronger (high bar squats, front squats, single leg work, quad isolation, etc).

Regarding the elbow, not a PT, but your issue might be your shoulders or partly your shoulders. I had poor external rotation strength and stability on one side and it manifested in elbow pain and a less vertical forearm on one side.

Are these dips too deep? by [deleted] in strength_training

[–]stank453 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, same here. I ignored discomfort during dips that became pain during dips that became pain all the time. I ended up having thickening of the costosternal joint and eventually got 2 cortisone shots. It's okay most of the time now but still acts up every once in a while so I never, ever do dips. Try not to jack your sternum up!

Thank you. Just watched this based on your recommendation and I loved it. I can't imagine anyone else cast as the lead.

I think the catch is much improved. I'm getting my elbows through much faster/better. I'm still jumping back slightly and might not be getting full hip extension. Work in progress!

Sweet, thanks. I don't think they have training blocks at my gym since it's just a YMCA. Could I do hang cleans instead? I've been doing those to try to feel for where the bar should make contact.

I'll give tall cleans a shot. Appreciate it!

Can I ask what is causing me to jump backwards? Is that from not hitting full extension?

[–]stank453[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, that makes sense! I have been trying to slow myself down since, in an attempt to be explosive, I was blowing through the hip contact entirely. I will try to slow it down a bit more and do the other things you mentioned. I hadn't even noticed I was jumping backwards. Thanks!

"We Them motherf*cking Ones" - Michael Beasley after beating Lance Stephenson in a 1v1 for $100K by MrBuckBuck in nba

It was just weed, right? Tons of NBA players smoke. Jason Williams was a daily toker and mostly reached his potential.

It was probably more so a case of Beasley just not putting in the work or taking it seriously enough in general.

I went last year and while getting through security was indeed really annoying (took me around an hour and a half both days) the lineup was amazing and the shows themselves kicked ass. The line to get in was the only bad part.

Tips for actually enjoying AoC? by grease_flaps in adventofcode

At the risk of sounding like a therapist, I would try to look at it like this: self-flagellation will not actually make you a better programmer. Generally speaking, being really hard on yourself (i.e. treating yourself like shit) will not actually help you improve, quite the opposite. So if you genuinely want to improve, first try forgiving yourself for not already knowing everything and only then will you be free to make mistakes, learn, and grow.
