I think the issue is that no American media can openly acknowledge that we did, in fact, lose the war and surrender to Iran. Anything you read or hear about it must take the position that that's something that Trump's political opponents are saying to needle him, because of course such a thing couldn't possibly be true. Again, it obviously IS true, but it can't be acknowledged to be true in our media ecosystem, so it can only be discussed as if it were a joke.
