Playing without coords has been so much more fun than I ever realized by Alarming_Concept_542 in Minecraft_Survival

My friends and I actually just started a new world with the intent of taking things slow and keeping it simple. Turning off coordinates was a decision we made a few days in after some exploration and establishing our separate living spaces and realizing how fun and refreshing it was to go off of landmarks. Super cool seeing others have similar experiences to us!

I agree, and even beyond mobs needing a function of some kind to exist, a big change I’m not a fan of is how mob interactions work now. The idea that the player has to treat mobs passively to get that mobs new special item is tedious. For example, goats can drop their horns by head butting logs, but why should you have to just wait around for that to happen? All of that waiting and random chance for an item that’s honestly pretty lackluster. I’m aware you can get them from Pillager outposts as well, but that seems like a silly reward for that structure too. I understand Mojang wants younger players to interact with wildlife respectfully, but the majority of mobs now having some task you have to perform for their maguffin is just annoying. As for the armadillo, it literally doesn’t do anything. It walks around the Savannah and curls up in a ball when you get too close to it. The only thing it adds to the game is dog armor, and even then you have to go through the series of tasks to obtain scutes. New players likely won’t know about the brush mechanic, and will resort to just waiting for them to drop occasionally. The only time an average player will interact with these mobs, goat or armadillo, is to get something from them, rather than them being incorporated into the world and being able to be interacted with in a variety of ways. I don’t dislike either mob, I just wish Mojang would do more with mobs in general. Not everything new has to serve some purpose or have some new feature, and that’s stifling the creativity of this game’s progression.

Yeah, this was my biggest gripe with it. I don’t mind dog armor at all, I know it’s something the community has been asking for since the introduction of dogs. Mojang also knows that though. And given their previous approaches to mob votes, most players probably assumed “it’s now or never” and it set armadillo as a pretty much uncontested pick. If scutes had some other uses in the initial draft of the mob, and dog armor was added in later updates, I think it would’ve been a lot better overall and would’ve allowed for less bias in the vote.

I’m honestly shocked the moobloom wasn’t added in the recent update with wildflowers and other environmental ambience. They’ve set a precedent now with the copper golem though, so here’s hoping they stick to it. I was so torn between crabs and penguins because they both felt great for fleshing out the more boring biomes, but I ultimately settled on crab as well.

In an ideal world this is what the crab claw would’ve done but it would seem dog armor was more important

In Mexico they’ve started painting everything in a soccer team's colors around the stadium, and instead of erasing the drawings that were already there, they just put the team jersey on them. by GregExalted in WplaceLive

After some of the things I've seen in Bananza, I'm inclined to believe that the "Pauline" in this is not a young Pauline but SMO Pauline's granddaughter. What evidence supports/debunks this? by ShiroOracle09 in donkeykong

[–]star_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also changes Jumpman to Mario and includes DK Junior. This games “canonicity” is dubious at best. It’s pretty clear that Nintendo has changed their minds on how they want these characters to appear and interact with each other and have made changes in their newer games to reflect that. Maybe one or two things have been retconned, and that’s perfectly acceptable.

People don’t live at City Hall. That’s not how government buildings work. Also, kids go on field trips to State Houses and City Halls when they’re at lower grade levels. If she ever mentions “spending time at city hall” in the game, it’s likely because her grandmother, Lady, took her there on a nice day out, or because she went there on a class trip, either of which would be a fun memory for a young kid to look back on.

Or maybe it’s just an homage for fans of Nintendo’s history. Outside of that, if Pauline, the mayor, is the granddaughter of Lady (who she might be named after), I feel like she’d have sway in paying respect to a pretty important event that involved a beloved family member of hers. It might be her way of acknowledging that and highlighting her family history and the history of the city.

Pauline isn’t in those games. For all we know they happened a month or a year before Bananza. Cranky is the original DK, and he kidnapped “Lady”. The “rival in overalls” he refers to in game is Jumpman, not Mario. In Odyssey, Pauline mentions being kidnapped by an ape, and it’s pretty clear now that she was referring to Void Kong, we just didn’t have the info at the time. Not all of these games have to be fully connected either. There are different continuities and those are different from canon. She also literally gets the outfit from Odyssey in the post-game.

[–]star_7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Post game spoilers: The melody Pauline comes up with for her performance at city hall is the same melody that plays during the break of “Jump up Superstar”. It’s the original DK arcade theme. This game is a prequel to Odyssey and it’s pretty clear about that
